The pickup design features individual pole piece adjustment for individual string balance. They can be raised collectively higher or lower in regards to neck or bridge position as well. The point being is that overall balance might take a little time depending on the bass, the amp, the room, the player etc. It's worth the effort. IMO

Excellent intro to Dark Stars pickups. Both basses look and sound TREMENDOUS! I especially like the tone of the fretless...but they both have a great tone and nice variation. It must be killer to have two , one fretted and one fretless...the possibilities are endless.Keep the video's coming guys, you are both showing us amazing gear that is quite rare to come by. Good job!

I'm putting some dark star reproductions into a ripper bass clone. There is just enough wood to rout the puckup pockets. You hafto rout dam near through the body. Had me sweatin takin all that wood out.

You shouo lower the pickup(s) on the fretted bass a bit, to avoid the clancky pops you are getting there.

Passive, and the all black one is passive with active electronics and a preamp.

Compared to the regular JB pick-ups how do these Dark Star pick ups sound? In the video they sound great, but it's always hard to do a direct comparisson based in what we listen there.
