@@CarThought Hi mate. Have you ever come across a way of fixing the passenger seat occupancy sensor. My 2010 seems to think some one is sat in the passenger seat all the time so I have to have the seat belt in all the time to stop the alarm. Or do you know what or where the sensor is. Ta mate

General rule of airbags. Disconnect battery and step on the brakes to activate brake light circuit and discharge any electrical power stored in capacitors. This insures that the airbag can not deploy. If the engine has a rough idle, it because the ECM has to relearn itself. Should do that in a few short drives. For this car, I'm glad I'm under 6feet. I did the gas pedal modification of washers under the top bolt to give a bit more leg room. That did it for me.
I made my own brackets out of 3mm flat stock with 1 x 10mm and 2 x 8mm holes. Cost = £0 and can be fitted with the seats in situ. The only tricky part is breaking the 3 spot welds by centre punching and partially drilling from the top. At 6ft 3ins tall my head rubbed the roof, now there's at least 1.5 inches of headroom and the extra seat rake feels more comfortable.
Thanks for this vid, inspired me to get the jass performance brackets too. I've got a MK3.5/nc2, thankfully didn't involve any drilling, just some cutting/trimming. Oh and thanks to your video I decided to do it all without taking the rails off. Great mod for the car. Keep up the great videos!
Did mine recently as well (Mk3.5/nc2). I like the result of the seat being lowerer but as it has only lowered the rear of the seat it now feels very different on the back of my thighs just behind my knees... How are you finding it? I would prefer to have the front of the seat lowered a touch as well.
@@D4NDC I haven't noticed much difference on that front, also haven't been on many long journeys since I changed the seat. My seat is height adjustable so can tweak it a little if needs be.
After a few more days I can say it definitely doesn't feel right for me. I'm 6ft & although I'm now a lot lower in the car (👍🏻) my legs are now straight out... I can feel the base of the seat on the back of my thighs & I quickly start to feel discomfort & numbness. Pleased it's good for you though.
Believe it was 1.5 inch/4cm (approx) however that is from memory. Must stress correspondence with Jass was great it was just the lowering of the rear of the seat brought a contact point with part of my thigh that created pressure & numbness. I was fortunate I didn't need the brackets for required headroom... I just wanted to feel lower in the seat @@BubbaDooDoo
I too had a hard time getting the nuts off the sliders, I ended up using a big ‘cheater’ pipe with the 14 mm spanner, they came off then. I have the 2.5” brackets on their way. I’m only 5’10”, but my torso is so long my head is just over the aftermarket rollbar when I’m wearing a helmet. So hopefully the 2.5” Jass Performance bracket gets me under it.
Thanks a lot for this video! I'm trying to get all the confidence to try this mod. I'm 190, so it would reeeeally help. May I ask where did you find the instructions for tightening those bolts (you said should be between 36 and 54 nm)?
Hi Dom. James here with an identical RHD black 06 NC in South Africa. Thanks so much for doing this video. I have been looking at Importing those Jass Performance brackets for many months. Thanks so much for the video. Looks like quite a bit of work. You reckon no chance to get it done without taking the rails off the seat? I know...wishful thinking. Look forward to your feedback on how much more room they give you. Cheers James@6ft
James Jepp thanks for the comment James, you’re welcome. Retrospectively I think it could be done without taking the rails off, I did go at one of the bracket studs from both sides which would be a little more difficult with the seat attached... but you’ll save a whole lot of effort if you can do it with the seat on!
One of the occupancy sensors was bad on my seat rails. So had to be changed. Thank you. I don't know if I would've thought to try getting to the rear nuts between the cushion and frame. ether way thanks!!
Hi Tony. Was hoping you might be able with with an issues I'm having. My passenger seat thinks there is someone in the seat when it's empty so I always have to have the seatbelt plugged in. Is that the problem you was having and did you manage to get it fixed. Ta Andy

That's really cool 😎, I just have a question does this mod gives a bit more longitudinal leg room for heel and toe down shifts? I've having this issue with .y nd2.

Hey mate would you recommend the 1 inch drop? Did it make a good difference? I'm 6ft, and with my mk3.5 PRHT and height adjustable leather seats, I could do with a touch more head room and I want to take the car on track too. How much difference has it made overall? Recommend the bigger drop and the hacksaw?
Hi Jimmy, sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you. It’s really tough to say as everyone’s a different shape. I think the 1 inch will give you a little more, for example wearing a helmet in the car on track.. but the 2.5 will give a lot more. As it’s headroom you’re after I think it’s a direct correlation to the amount of drop you want.. (bit different for legroom) you could almost measure where your head is at in stock form, and then remove the seat, sit on a block/cushion and measure a 1 inch drop to see if this is enough. Then do the same again with 2.5.. wouldn’t take too long to try it!

I found this video really interesting 🤔 just out of interest how tall are you ? I would love a mx5 but the standard seat height is un bearable being 6ft 4 less the roof is down
A little over 6ft 1 mate, 34 inch inside leg. I would say 6ft 4 in a right hand drive car is pushing it, given the trans tunnel intrudes into driver footwell, you might fit but your legs might get a bit numb. Best bet is to try one out!
@@hypnotechno yeah the transmission tunnel is designed for LHD. There is a bulge into the footwell on the right hand side for all cars.. so there is less room for the passengers on a LHD car and less room for the driver on a RHD car.
I installed the 1 Inch / 2,5cm Set last year. The Installation was easy. You don’t have to take the rails of. Slide them back an lay the seat on a Workbench (or in my case, a barbell bench 😁) and drill it out. If the old mounting point is of, pay attention - The ball-bearing can fall out of the rail if you slide it forward again…. If this happens, you can put the balls back in. But was it worth it? Yes and no. Im also 6.1 and i did not get more Legroom. In fact i got even less. Due to the new bracket, the seat no longer goes back that far (the new screws prevent this). Im sure it is less than 1 Inch, but keep this in mind. So no change legwise. But i have more headroom, which is nice. And my Wife can still drive the car. She is 5.1 and she must move the seat all the way to the front. Because only the back is lowered she slide the seat to the front and upwards. I‘m curious if this is also possible with the 2,5inch/6,5cm lowering. Maybe i try this one day. This could help with the knee’s a bit because the angle of the seat pad changes again. Maybe then they won't fly to the side anymore when you drive into a curve 😂
