Dear Stobe. A solution to the Indy beer issue is to place the beers of your choosing in the coolers in the frozen isles beneath some basic commodities that no one really buys (frozen spinach). Continue to wonder town for 40-70 minutes then come back to the store and purchase your newly chilled beer.

At 4:00 that "metal thing" is actually build up of the brake pads. When the brakes aren't released all the way, they create friction against the wheels on the cars and eventually fall off! Its basically a melted brake pad off the car! R.I.P Stobe!!!!

Everything about Honey Brown beer - the name, the logo, the font, the colour scheme - makes it seem cosy and delicious. I've never tried it, though, and I doubt they sell it in the UK. Stobie, meanwhile, has a talent for making any drink seem succulent though. Steel Reserve... Coors... and even Icehouse wouldn't melt in his mouth - although the frozen ravioli had to.

Hosier state in action to really appreciate it. Backwards, that's the best way to describe it. So it doesn't surprise me that there would be a store in Indiana with a ton of beer on sale & none of it cold. Things like that...Indiana.

That said my only military experience is being in the Canadian Rangers, a bunch that is similarly mocked here in the Great White North. All teasing aside, Much love Mr. Stobe. It's nice to see you on the rails again and I sure am grateful for the time and effort you put into these videos that let us tag along with you on your journeys. At 4:00 they are asking what the piece of steel is. That is actually material build up from the metal coming off the wheels during braking over several years. This was more prevalent when they were using cast iron brake shoes. You would find these piles stuck on the bottoms of railcars right above the wheels. Once they get too heavy they fall off.

Yo Jimmy, it was cool to see you made it through St. Louis. east STL is the getto but many years back it was a thriving city, my father grew up there and i lived there til I was about 6 years old until we moved for obvious reasons. I was hoping that you would have made your way around the city some there are a lot of great things to see here and plenty of cold beer of all kinds. Yes Indy kinda sucks too, oh well great video keep em comin, safe travels my man, Peace Out.

That piece of metal at 4;02 is some grinding dist that built up on the rail grinding car (machine). When they have a rail grinding train to clean up the edges and ball of the rail..Those things fall off the guards that keeps the sparks from starting fires along the tracks.

These videos are one of the few non- bullshit things that keep me going. I have been looking for a job and its a bitch, takes money to outfit my hobo dream initially anyway. I'll get out there or die trying.
I will rubber tramp and require my affairs be paid down enough to proceed.
Recently discovered this lifestyle and am all for it. I do not want bad credit or any of that nonsense, I too want a place to come back to, rat-hole albeit that it is... I am through with loading my future-self with debt, I need some GD adventure!!!

That building is called an interlocking tower and would have been used to watch over the diamonds as a safety measure. Odds are that the tower you saw was still in use, but only for storing signaling equipment, however they often have cameras around them. Stay safe, and have fun.

The line to Cincinnati was right in town right by the main station where Stobe video-ed those freight cars on the viaduct...It was in a dense city urban zone so Stobe bailed and took the bus because he saw it was too difficult a tactical maneuver...If you look on this link the branch Stobe was looking for was the switch that goes SouthEast over Interstate 70: www.google.com/maps/@39.764082,-86.150443,1107m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en

Still finding some of Jim's videos I haven't seen yet. Indy my home town. They used to have state run liquor stores that sold cold beer but they were closed on Sundays of course and they wouldn't sell even warm beer in the grocery stores on Sundays. The bars though were a good place to buy cold beer 7 days a week. Most would sell you cases or 12 packs for just a couple bucks more than the stores as a carry out. In my wayward youth I used to get around town hotel shuttle and rental car company shuttle hopping using the convention center or the airport as a hub since the bus system sucked. The Indy airport though is on the far westside of town and one could get stranded there overnight if you tried to catch a shuttle out of there too late. RIP Stobe.
