Those huge accumulations of rocks took so much energy, so many calories to clear and stack. Piles of hopes dreams and ambitions really. Mans efforts are so transitory, so impermanent. The folks doing the work were so sure of the importance of what they were doing at the time, how could they not be, to have worked so hard trying to create something that is now completely forgotten, and ultimately of little or no consequence beyond having become something of a playground and exploring field for detectorists?
