Yep, I have used them for years for sheet music reading on my piano. There is nothing price wise that compares. Squint wise, many artist use lil apple tablets.
I'm watching this on a Inspiron 17 7000 series (7779). It was a replacement I had ordered for my old Dell XPS L702X, so I could more easily read the speech bubbles in e-versions of comics books and graphic novels by using it as a tablet in portrait mode. It's good that I did, since the XPS crapped out just a few months after the new one was delivered. My only real issue with the ergonomics is the placement of the power switch so close to the volume buttons. If you brush it when trying to adjust the volume, it powers down the system. I also really miss having a built-in optical drive. With a machine this thin, you have to use an external CD/DVD/BluRay reader or burner. I ordered the 128 gigabyte SSD drive as the boot drive for the OS and Office, with a terabyte 7200 RPM SATA second drive for media and data storage. The system is over a year old now and the only changes I would make are upgrading to a slightly larger boot drive as I now know a lot more about the solid state cards and keep getting messages that the card is over one-half full, with just Win 10, Office 365, McAfee and some media player software installed on the boot drive (and the recovery partition, of course). This is the Sandisk X400 M.2 2280 form factor drive. It's a card that plugs into the motherboard, that looks something like a desktop memory chip except the connectors are on the skinny edge. There's only one slot for that format on the motherboard, so upgrading is going to require an external drive reader for cloning the drive to a new card, or a few additional steps ie cloning it to a 2.5 inch factor drive then back to the new larger drive. Now that the battery is older I only get about three to four hours on a complete charge. BTW, the old XPS system I was able to resurrect a while back by flashing the BIOS and doing a clean install of the OS. Since then I've cloned the 500 gigabyte 7200 RPM SATA boot drive onto a 2.5 inch form factor SanDisk X400 500 gigabyte internal drive and upped the system memory from the official max of 8 gig to 16 gig of DDR3 (which is ridiculously cheap nowadays). It now boots in less than 15 seconds where before it took almost a minute to get to the desktop, and since it has an Intel i7 2.2 GHz processor it runs nearly as fast as the 7000 series, with an Intel i7 2.7 GHz processor, a machine that's nearly a decade newer.
Wow! I feel like a complete fool haha - I have owned this laptop since Christmas and had NO IDEA the screen would flip around like that. Wow! I kind of feel like celebrating Christmas in October this year lol. Thank you for posting this video.
For musicians that want to be able to read a full page of sheet music at at time without killing your eyes (turned vertical on your sheet music stand), it is a dream. Also for artist to do graphics design it is great !!! Love your reviews !!!
Gerry Hulme I'm glad I came across this comment. I was looking to get this for my graphic design needs. I just need something that can handle photoshop and muse. 😩
I've had a new laptop for work every two or three years for 15 years, and this beats everything I've had before hands down. The design detailing and build quality is outstanding.
You probably dont give a damn but does anybody know a way to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Jaxx Mateo thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Super old comment but still... I own this and the reason is when in tablet mode you need areas to hold so larger bezels makes a lot of sense when used in that mode.
I got this when it went on sale at Best Buy for $850 and glad I ordered one. The fit and finish is solid. I went ahead and changed the HDD to a Samsung Evo Pro and will get a M2 SSD also. With the SSD upgrade startup is less than 7 secs and shutdown is 2 secs. I adjusted the screen with a Spyder color calibrator and the screen looks much better. Screen is bright and it looks good at 50% brightness. The speaker is surprisingly loud and clear. Battery life I was getting 6-7 hours at 50% brightness with watching TH-cam, using Facebook and reading news. It's a bit on the heavy side but it's okay and it's actually a bit lighter than an HP 17" Envy and that one isn't even a x360 model.
Hi Lisa, I have watched and enjoyed many of your reviews. Thank you! This particular one was quite influential in me buying an Inspiron 17-7786. It is very slow, but I would like to share another reason why large 2 in 1 laptops can be useful: for teachers wanting to use picture cards in class. 17 inch is borderline sufficient. I whish bigger ones would be available.
I actually have this laptop and its really nice but the only real complaint I have is its not really a finger print magnet but it loves to show any type of oils or things like that on it.
MobileTechReview hello I just bought this laptop today I got $250 off at Best buy it looks like Dell has refreshed this model in the past months it now has Pen support.
This may be a stupid question, but if you bend the computer to be used as a tablet and the keyboard is facing down, wouldn't several keys be getting pressed accidentally?
My first laptop was a multimedia grade, 18.4-inch from Acer. I can't imagine that laptop with Infinity Display. I think I just had a nerdgasm thinking about it.
I think this should be a good choice for people who want a gaint surface or surface book. I hurt my neck few times due to I use my surface pro as a laptop and I am planing to buy this one and now it has 300 CAD off on DELL web site :D
Hi. I'm reading some critics from people who had some issues with this laptop. The most relevant: 1) a BSOD problem (blue screen of death), that happens randomly, and 2) the trackpad stops working some times. Any of this happened to you in the time you were working with it?
Awesome, review on the 17.3 Dell 2 in 1 laptop. Working as a virtual accountant, I feel this is a great laptop for accounting applications / MS Office apps
Scott Barnes I think it's cause a lot of things you can download now like movies, albums,ECT. Still I personally like to see an old fashioned CD and DVD player on the side.
i want to buy this laptop, 15 5000 to be more specific and i wil be using for programming and darks mode IDEs, but i am concern with the screen glare. Do you think the glare that the screen have is too much or is handleable? Thank you very much, very good review.
Is it stylus compatible? I'm looking at the dell inspirons to use for both a regular everyday laptop but also a drawing tablet. I've heard that a few of them work with styluses, but I'm not sure about the new updated models. If not, which laptop would you recommend to use for drawing as well?
Man I'm not sure about using a laptop as a tablet. I don't want to watch a movie one device where I can see my documents and icons on the desktop and taskbar.
great video as per usual! I've bought Alot of gadgets based on your videos so thanks:) I was just wondering what is the best 2 in 1 laptop right now? not for gaming just general use. screen quality. fast processing. etc thanks!
Hi there, Few weeks ago I suddenly got a Message "Hard Drive not installed" on my Dell Inspiron 17-7000(7778) (i5 processor) series and couldn't access Windows anymore, this was after a lot of years of ongoing screen freeze alongside other issues that I had on 2 same Inspiron laptops since day one and have reported to Dell but unfortunately Dell Customer Service and Support have Failed to Address the Issues tell warranty Expiration not to mention the price (of the two) being students on a budget. and then the Hard Drive failure Came, Now I would like to try and upgrade to SSD M.2. In Setup and Specifications THE ONLY THING I FOUND is that I can Install One-m.2 drive and One-2.5 inch drive. Is Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 (1TB) or pro series compatible?, There woulden't be any Bios issues? And is there a limit of storage capacity that my 4-5 Year old Inspiron-17-i5 can handle on both Hard Drives (primary and secondary). Thanks.
I see these comments are all from years ago, but I doubt anything much has changed since. With a notebook computer that large and so few ports and other features, why didn't Dell at least include an OPTICAL DRIVE? Why do we have to purchase an external one when there was plenty of unused space to install one internally? Seems like a design item. Poor design. Still, I could wind up buying this anyway, since my 12-year-old Dell 1525 is totally obsolete now.
Hello Lisa, thanks a lot for your video. This video was released in 2016, now it's 2022. Do you know it this model still doesn't support active pen? Or anybody else that could help me on this?
how responsive and accurate is the touch screen? I want something like this for VST instruments and music producing. Is the new Kaby Lake version much different?
I just bought this laptop but when I run games like the sims 4 and record my screen ( using obs) it makes a very loud and high pitcher fan noise. Does anyone know how to fix this??? Thank you.
Hi Lisa, Thank you for your series of video product reviews, very informative and interesting and I am a subscriber. I would like to ask a question please, that is with devices that have both 128GB SSD and say a 1TB HDD, do they allow which hard drive to use as the main one? I can understand using the SSD for the OS but not much space for applications so I take it the other drive would be where you install your software/applications on or do they allow you to decide when configuring out-of-the-box? I am looking seriously at this unit for my needs or the (7790) in the UK.
Another bonus is it allows to put a proper keyboard in front of the screen! Laptops don't offer that, or decent keyboards. Is there a non-touchscreen version?
So can this laptop withstand heavy editing for Music and Production aspect of things? You did mention virtual instruments yet how powerful is the laptop when it comes to bouncing projects and making final stages of a professional project? (32) gigs of ram expandable which is tempting, but how does it stand beside the the Dell XPS 15 2017 model for example? Besides the fact XPS isn't convertible.
I adored my old XPS M1710 and would love a proper XPS17 in the same vein as the current 13 and 15. This Inspiron just looks a bit anemic. Are Dell intent on forcing power users/gamers into Alienware or Precision at a higher pricepoint?
Thanks Lisa for a very concise and informative review of the Dell Inspiron 17 7778. Mine is arriving on Tuesday and after watching you review, I know I bought the right computer for me.
This laptop isn’t bad but the power button is in the worst place ever. Any time you move it gets turned off. And if you do a lot of work online this is not for you, I’ve had mine for 2 years and some of the keys don’t work and it glitches all the time.
Hey very good review, but I hear you keep saying it's not a top of the line gaming laptop but actually with the type of specs it comes with, it can actually run some of the most high end games like battle feild 4 and GTA 5 online, and I ain't talking about minimum requirements, am talking over recommended requirements. Great laptop, am getting one 😀 Nice vid and keep up the great work 👍
I seen the HP 17.3 laptop and compared screen side by side and HP screen is nicer looking. I like that the HP has the cd/dvd slot which gives it the edge. I always loved dells, but the HP looks better
i have a question i need a laptop just for streaming movies, surfing the web, youtube, would this be a computer for that ? i dont really care about gaming or anything else so what would you guys suggest ?
Beezy Gamer i ended up getting the dell inspiron 7000 2-1 , its a great laptop and dont mind the extra features....thanks for the advice none the less i appreciate it.
I wish Dell would take their Name out of the Bottom of the screen and actually give us more screen real estate . That big black space where the DELL name is could be use as more of the viewing area .
since it has a synaptic digitizer, that means it should support the active pen could just be a driver issue or a corrupted item? I need this laptop for drawing and so and it would be a problem if it doesn't support dell active stylus
Do all Dell laptops have the same battery status light system when charging with unit off? I have a Dell inspiron 3000..how do I know when it is fully charged using the status light?
just got this one and thought it would be able to use a stylus. I believe a previous version was able to. it's completely idiotic to remove/neglect that feature to compete or break into the drawing tablet/pcs. I also have the surface pro 4 but would love a larger screen to draw on too.
nice video! whats your opinion on asus Q504 vs lenovo yoga 710 (both 15.6 widescreen). these 2 have similar specs and similar price. leaning slightly towards yoga but not the 12 gb ram on the asus is tempting. help!!
how do i go about installing things if the computer doesn't have a dvd drive? example: setting up a HP wireless printer that needs a disk to install the program to sync computer to printer?????
I just bought the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 for Business 15in i5, it is retailing for the same price this is. I was disappointed by how small the 15inch feels and the absence of number key pads (grrrr). -How do you compare this Dell with the Microsoft Surface series? Thank you in advance.
I hope Dell never quits making 17" laptops - I have trouble using anything smaller. Just got one of these and it is MAGNIFICENT!
Yep, I have used them for years for sheet music reading on my piano. There is nothing price wise that compares. Squint wise, many artist use lil apple tablets.

@Jaxx Mateo it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out!
@Cristiano Troy you are welcome =)
for the size it is i wish they made one bezeless and a bit thinner even if i only get USB-C and with a 2:1 aspect so i can dial screen

I have dell studio, I bought it 5 years ago, and now work very good, Dell is the best.
Bosnia and heryegovina
I just received mine on Tuesday. 16GB Ram, 1TB HDD, 128GB SDD. So far I love it.
how long can you watch videos and how is the quality.
I assume you mean on battery power? That question I can't answer because I never use my laptop on battery power. The image quality is great though.
+Larry Prim where did you order it from I can't find any withh ssd in canada.
Ram expansible, how many, 64 ram Ddr4? Can be posible?

I typed in "how to get to my control panel' and this is where it took me.
i have the 17.3 inch and i love this laptop so much!
Not all 7000s are a 2in1 theres the 7559 which is a Gaming level laptop with the 960m and quadcore i5/i7. Its also in the Inspiron family.
Very true, but Dell separates the Gaming Edition into a separate line on their site. We've reviewed the 7559-- excellent product for the price.
I have the 7737 it's not a 2n1 either.
I'm excited a manufacturer has not shied away from lower prices , it's possible to make a quality PC within reason 👍Bravo Dell !
would you recommend it to a college student?
tsafack christian
Yes
My brother had a super fast performance
This may be a stupid question, but if you bend the computer to be used as a tablet and the keyboard is facing down, wouldn't several keys be getting pressed accidentally?
The keyboard turns itself off
I hope they do an XPS 17 infinity someday
I have a maxed out xps 15 and I regret not getting the xps 13, I've stopped using it since it's too large truthfully as a college student
My first laptop was a multimedia grade, 18.4-inch from Acer. I can't imagine that laptop with Infinity Display. I think I just had a nerdgasm thinking about it.
I have an MSI GS70 Stealth Pro 17" and it's the smallest I can work with. I'm in animation so I need plenty of screen real estate.
An XPS 18 even better! Imagine the price though!
Selling?
How is the writing/drawing experience with which stylus? I cannnnot believe you have not show some drawing stuffie thingie on this one Lisa🤓
I think this should be a good choice for people who want a gaint surface or surface book. I hurt my neck few times due to I use my surface pro as a laptop and I am planing to buy this one and now it has 300 CAD off on DELL web site :D

this has 17 inch 1080p display good ram and great processor, all im looking for but its so so expensive man.
Lisa, you had me at that piano demo :)
Jesus Lisa, I've been watching your reviews for 5 or so years and this 60 fps is something else.
Thank you for that, I've been hoping you would review this model. I love the idea of a 17" 2-in-1 but am bummed out has no active stylus support.
Love me some Lisa! Thanks for all of your excellent work! The best tech reviewer out there!
i need a big 17 inch screen in a small 16 inch form factor
Awesome, review on the 17.3 Dell 2 in 1 laptop. Working as a virtual accountant, I feel this is a great laptop for accounting applications / MS Office apps
Why do they no longer come with DVD/CD drives?
Scott Barnes I think it's cause a lot of things you can download now like movies, albums,ECT. Still I personally like to see an old fashioned CD and DVD player on the side.
"...Pretty rocking zingy. " love it!
Another great review!
i want to buy this laptop, 15 5000 to be more specific and i wil be using for programming and darks mode IDEs, but i am concern with the screen glare. Do you think the glare that the screen have is too much or is handleable? Thank you very much, very good review.
great reviews! thank you. rapid, clear detailed, and thorough for overall evaluation!

fantastic review. thank you so much!
Hi, did you try to draw on it? Is the pencil technology satisfying? Thanks
I came to check this review in 2021 as these are available now for $100. But wondering if it's still up to spec for 2021.
Does the two hinges bend in-sync? I am concerned that the "lid\screen" wont be aligned with the main body of the laptop (skewed) when you close it.
great video as per usual! I've bought Alot of gadgets based on your videos so thanks:) I was just wondering what is the best 2 in 1 laptop right now? not for gaming just general use. screen quality. fast processing. etc thanks!
Hi there,
Few weeks ago I suddenly got a Message "Hard Drive not installed" on my Dell Inspiron 17-7000(7778) (i5 processor) series and couldn't access Windows anymore, this was after a lot of years of ongoing screen freeze alongside other issues that I had on 2 same Inspiron laptops since day one and have reported to Dell but unfortunately Dell Customer Service and Support have Failed to Address the Issues tell warranty Expiration not to mention the price (of the two) being students on a budget.
and then the Hard Drive failure Came,
Now I would like to try and upgrade to SSD M.2.
Thanks.

I need a video of comparing dell 5378 and 7560
Did you test a stylus with the laptop? Or does it even work with one?
Hello Lisa, thanks a lot for your video. This video was released in 2016, now it's 2022. Do you know it this model still doesn't support active pen? Or anybody else that could help me on this?
Does this laptop support pens? Like for drawing in Photoshop, and if so what pen(s) are they?
she said nope
how responsive and accurate is the touch screen? I want something like this for VST instruments and music producing. Is the new Kaby Lake version much different?
the i5-7200u have a very similar power than a i7-6500U
No pen support? ::crying::
No pen support thats dumb so much for using it for artwork
I just bought this laptop but when I run games like the sims 4 and record my screen ( using obs) it makes a very loud and high pitcher fan noise. Does anyone know how to fix this??? Thank you.
Hi Lisa, Thank you for your series of video product reviews, very informative and interesting and I am a subscriber. will you review the 15 inch version? with skylake i7, just got it and i think its a great product, just curious to see your opinion.
which 1 should I buy?
Lisa is like a mother I never had.
Is this model is better for graphic design or gaming ?
For graphic design
2:13 the 940mx is a mid-range GPU not a low end you're wrong!
I saw Inspiron 15 7000 with Infinity Edge screen on the Dell TH-cam channel. Would you be able to do a review on that? Thanks Lisa.
ive got a 7706 2n1 with the nvidia iris integrated graphics and let me tell you, it sucks for gaming! even low end games play really choppy
I adored my old XPS M1710 and would love a proper XPS17 in the same vein as the current 13 and 15. This Inspiron just looks a bit anemic. Are Dell intent on forcing power users/gamers into Alienware or Precision at a higher pricepoint?
Yes
Thanks Lisa for a very concise and informative review of the Dell Inspiron 17 7778. Mine is arriving on Tuesday and after watching you review, I know I bought the right computer for me.
This laptop isn’t bad but the power button is in the worst place ever. Any time you move it gets turned off. And if you do a lot of work online this is not for you, I’ve had mine for 2 years and some of the keys don’t work and it glitches all the time.
I do have an issue with the audio, It's just the way the audio sounds flat I can barley hear no bass
how is this laptop for school work, watching youtube or any other daily uses?
JUST SUBBED, GREAT STUFF!
I have one from 2018 it encodes video almost in real time i'm surprised because it doesn't have a dedicated graphics
What is the battery life on this laptop?
Can you please review Dell Inspiron 15 7573?
I will really appreciate that.
Thank you for your good review.
Could you please review the latest model of this year?
Hey very good review, but I hear you keep saying it's not a top of the line gaming laptop but actually with the type of specs it comes with, it can actually run some of the most high end games like battle feild 4 and GTA 5 online, and I ain't talking about minimum requirements, am talking over recommended requirements.
Great laptop, am getting one 😀
Nice vid and keep up the great work 👍
Jason Hosein how is your experience? Is it worth it?
I seen the HP 17.3 laptop and compared screen side by side and HP screen is nicer looking. I like that the HP has the cd/dvd slot which gives it the edge. I always loved dells, but the HP looks better
jbravo70 . Yes but hp is on 15.6 inches
i have a question i need a laptop just for streaming movies, surfing the web, youtube, would this be a computer for that ? i dont really care about gaming or anything else so what would you guys suggest ?
brian garcia tbh get a cheap chromebook if that's all you're gonna do 🙄
Beezy Gamer i ended up getting the dell inspiron 7000 2-1 , its a great laptop and dont mind the extra features....thanks for the advice none the less i appreciate it.
@@briangarcia3012 it's heavy though 🙄
I wish Dell would take their Name out of the Bottom of the screen and actually give us more screen real estate . That big black space where the DELL name is could be use as more of the viewing area .
Madem, Kindly upload a video for best budjet laptop for mechanical engineer like ansys, catia ,autocad softwares.
Is it fully laminated?
since it has a synaptic digitizer, that means it should support the active pen
could just be a driver issue or a corrupted item?

Thank you that solidified my decision to buy that model! And by the way excellent review! Love & Light GLP
just got this one and thought it would be able to use a stylus. I believe a previous version was able to. it's completely idiotic to remove/neglect that feature to compete or break into the drawing tablet/pcs. I also have the surface pro 4 but would love a larger screen to draw on too.
Are you rich?

how do i go about installing things if the computer doesn't have a dvd drive?
example: setting up a HP wireless printer that needs a disk to install the program to sync computer to printer?????
Download the driver from HP official website
i think with windows 10 there is no need for 99% of printers to use a driver, maybe for some additional software which HP prefers ^^
