To this very day, I'm grateful for a good Navy buddy for introducing me to "Wild Child." Since then, it's been a rabbit hole dive into Valerie's gift to the rest of us--her angelic, once-in-a-generation voice. Thanks for adding this to my collection of precious art.
Such a beautiful song which is quite personal to me right now as I am trying to get over losing the love of my life. I cry as I listen to this song not sure I will ever get over it but Valerie sings to me with her angelic voice from heaven. Rest In Peace my beautiful angel.❤
What a treat - as well as a treasure! Valerie could possibly have been a bigger talent, had a bigger name on the international scene, but that's not what she wanted. The world lost a great singer in March of 2017, but in 2018/19 we still get to hear her anew. Thank you, Kathy Kurasch for your selfless work so that Val still lives on in her song.
Came to this link from The Violet Reality. Many thanks to Valerie's family for sharing this and disclosing Prince's co-writing credit's on the song. This is a real treasure to the Prince fan community to find a new song that he had worked on. I liked the home videos of Valerie. Her voice is sweet and very pretty--reminds me a bit of Minnie Riperton's sound back in the 70s. Lovely song.
Valerie's debut album was partly produced by Maurice White and included Deniece Williams among the back-up vocalists. (You can hear her quite plainly in remastered versions of "Ooh Child") It's not surprising that you were reminded of Minnie Ripperton as she, Deniece Williams, and Syreeta Wright were somewhat alike...and yet very different at the same time. - JUMBO
Wow I always loved listening to Valerie (she was the most amazing singer) and this was such a hidden gem. Thanks for sharing this. It will get many plays from me.
This is how I feel Mr.Nelson is smiling about this release. This is how music should be discovered.Harmony and Peace - please dont taint this powers that b. True followers of the music should be really happy about this. This is a song from the 🤗🤗
This song makes me realize how talented he was when he 1st started. Much love 2 Valerie Carter and her family. This also got me 2 realize that r&b/pop from back in the day was a lot better sounding it had best musicians best songwriting best melodies and best astounding vocals! Love is real. Thank once again and May U Live 2 C the Dawn!
👍🌹Omg, I have been trying to figure out who this woman is for YEEEARS. My Dad LOVED her voice, he had an old tape that he played in his car, and I had no idea who it was, bc he passed away and I was only 9. My Dad had a beautiful voice, and would sing her songs, but I never knew who she was. I heard this song and burst into tears. Thank You dearly to her friend Karen for making this album, Valerie had such talent and what a voice (and she was quite beautiful as I've just found out) I'm sad to see she has passed on. But maybe her & my Dad are up there jammin out. RiP to Valerie & to my Daddy. xo🦋🌹
Wow is too weak a word to say about this song, this is a delightful surprise to discover. It has P's essence all over it. The difficult part is only finding of Valerie's career and music after her untimely death.
Having grown up in SoCal in the 70s, I knew of Valerie Carter. She was always in demand as a background singer. The pairing of Carter and Prince is never one I could have conceived of. It's a very unlikely pairing. Carter's voice has never sounded so poignant. Having Prince and Carter perform a duet on this would just be out of this world. Speaking of their music, I'd love to see the lyrics but I've been unable to find them. Anyone know where that might be found?
Very pretty song. So she did this with Prince back in the 1970's? It seems almost, every woman Prince worked with had two things in common - they were all short and were all very pretty.
Valerie had the demo tape of this song among her belongings - and she co-wrote it. Its published under Valerie's copyright entity River Honey Music (ASCAP). Prince never recorded it. maybe he gave her the demo tape. If so, no need to regard what Prince's estate thinks. So, I don't see a problem here.
What a gem ! Came here for Prince not knowing of Valerie, stayed for both. Lovely song

Really Nice. Wet feet and all.
Also written by Prince
I thought this was talked about before?
What year was this created?
The song was written in the 70's. This is the original demo. The video was created with the release of The Lost Tapes 12/13/18
They had the same manager so maybe 79
77
1977
What says prince´s estate over the release ????
Who ceres?
