Yea +Bruce Mayberry, David could have gotton off the drugs, and Eddi could have taken chemo when the doctor discovered the spot on one of his lungs, and quit chain smoking. But Eddi was more concern about losing his hair with the chemo. So sad Paul had that blood disease, then to be pushed to the background, after Smokey Robinson began to write the lead songs specifically for either David or Eddi. Before David came along, it was Paul and Eddi on lead, he must have felt so passed over. One of the greatest male singing groups of all time. So glad that I was able to see them perform live at the Apollo Theatre in NYC, during the early 1970's. They were always gave a stellar performance, each one bringing forth their own personal genius!!!!!
I missed the bus by not seeing them then, but now I realize much too late they were the genius band of the era, not to mention artists of the highest level, which I think no one has equaled since. If I could liquify this sound and pump it into my veins, I would do it.
Profiles in Pittsburgh 🖤💛 It's wonderful to see four Temptations or five Temptations just so I can see my favorite one and that is brother Dr. Otis Williams. He looks good and he sounds good and he dances. He's gives us his SMILE 4/60 years. A five-star for The Temptations Group. Sister forever Nora Rose Parker😘❤
This song is where I fell in love with the vocals of Dennis Edwards. I was in elementary school. I went to a kids party. These kids were DOIN' IT TO LIFE on this song!!! We partied like soul stars on this! Me and Dennis Edwards been vocally joined together ever since. I sing, his parts, when I can!
I heart Melvin... Him and Paul are my favs ^_^ I just wish OTIS would open his dang MOUTH when he sang... then again, I guess it gives it more character lol
As of 2010, the Temptations continue to perform and record for Universal Records with its one living original member, Otis Williams, still in its lineup. The original lineup included:Otis Williams,Elbridge "Al" Bryant (d.'75),Melvin Franklin (d. '95), Eddie Kendricks (d.'92), Paul Williams (d.'73).Among the most notable future Temptations were lead singers David Ruffin (d.'91). There were many other Temps but these are the ones I knew & love. These to me are THE Temptations!
This TOTP clip was the first time I ever heard this song, so it sounds strange hearing the official version with Eddie, never realised Otis was basically covering for him here
Thumbs up to the Temps, Dennis Edwards is the man who style and class. Ed Kendricks, Paul Williams, Mel Franklin and Otis Williams had it all too. David Ruffin drifted in and out of the Motown group, but Dennis took and the rest was history. RIP, Dennis Edwards, Ed Kenricks, Mel Franklin, David Ruffin and Paul Williams. Otis Williams is the only survivor.
+MrBoxing215, thank you for this post. It is a great video.......Hearing and enjoying the individual voices of all the Tempts is really a great experience for me. I already know Eddi's voice, but I miss his presence just the same
Eddie chose not to perform. He was upset at Motown who he believe was cheating the group out of money and conficts with Otis. After Eddie decided to leave the group, Paul stayed and recorded some songs before his doctor told him to come off the road. The icing on the cake came when the group was performing at The Copa and during their run Otis had gotten call informing him that his mother had died during surgery and he had to fly home to bury her. After returning, he was grieving and while they were performing his voice cracked and Eddie gave him an evil look that said we're gonna have it. After the performance Eddie went to his dressing room and began to bang on his door. Otis decided not to open the door and once Eddie left, He and Melvin changed their clothes and left until the next show they had later that night. When Eddie learned that they left he got mad and didn't show up for the last show
Eddie was sick during this performance, so Otis sang his part's for this song. Eddie left a year after this performance. Paul did't perform, but he was the groups choreographer up until his death in 1973.

***** As GREAT as this is, I noticed that too. Paul saved this performance. But...it's still very good. Their whole backstory is just so sad. But better to focus on the good.
Its nice to see Otis sing more than one line :D
I'd rather have Eddie Kendrick having its SO noticeable absence of his unique vocals... jus' sayin'🤗
Yall really need to stop hating on OTIS, OTIS is the reason why Temptations is a group
Wow... Dennis Edwards. You ARE the man!
I'm shocked this is captured and on youtube
missing that falsetto tho

Like the true professionals they were, they said, "The show must go on"
Amen
I just couldn't wait to see who was going to sing Eddie's part at the end. It was Dennis, and he did it excellently.
No offense but they didn't need Otis. Like in the movie, "Ain't nobody coming to see you Otis!" Ruffin🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Otis sounds like a country singer.
@@061romell Agreed..

Otis Williams is the last original member left alive but Dennis Edwards seen here taking the lead on vocals is still with us as of June 2017.
Dennis recently died

Fantastic bass especially at the start 0:09, that run down at 1:43 and the end from 1:57

Dennis gives a powerful performance, and Paul should have had a few more lines, but yes not the same without Eddie. Love these guys.

WOW! I like the way they took turns filling in for Eddie's parts. Awesome ! Where was Eddie, by the way ?

Eddie was sick on this performance
denis dominated this performance for me.Vocally in my opinion in the history of the temptations he was second only to the great David Ruffin.
Perfection.

+mrsjerri taylor me too they are magic.
they're so handsome
Ruffin was the bomb, but I don't care who you are, that is one smoking performance and a very cool vid for something so retro.
@prettyinpink622 This was a concert they did in Europe and Eddie couldn't leave the country at the time because of passport issues.
I'm happy that they gave Otis more lines for the one concert, but he sounds more like he's talking than singing
Angel Molina well, must be the accent he has
Wait where's Eddie? it's obvious Otis ignored Ruffin when he said "Ain't nobody coming to see you Otis"
i wonder where id Ed?? he is my favorite with that high voice!:)
I fucking love Melvin Franklin.
Great 😀
Live, just from the clips I've seen, Melvin was the best dancer. he was always groovin' up a storm
1:45 Yo, Denis sounded spectacular.
As great as Eddie was, I don’t think this performance is lacking without him
Wow I was thinking the same thing
You'll done lost your damn mind.....😂horrible

What the- Where's Eddy?!?!
It's nice to hear the TOTP backing band actually putting a bit of effort into the songs for once! Lol... The Temptations are faultless.
And they say Otis can't sing!!!..........Just saying.......How could the song sounded great, if......One of them was out of tune!!!!!!!!!
Where's Eddie he sounds good it's weird without him
Eddie was having issues with Motown, Otis and coping with Paul's health. Eddie decided not to show up for this performance

Otis actually don't sound to bad on this; I always thought he was the Temp that couldn't sing, but he proved me wrong.
Yeah Otis sings pretty well! His voice is mainly for harmonies! He has sung lead on some songs!

he was sick during this so Otis did his lines for him while he was sick
Dennis is up there with Teddy in my view. What a duo they would have made.
Paul looks like it is the beginning of his illness. Paul normally was the best dancer.
Nah! His illness started in the late 60’s
I love the group, but the music does not sound like the normal band. Was this recording in Europe somewhere? It sounds kinda like British rock.
Its from the UKs Top of The Pops and they had a live in house band for some performances on the show so likely to be them.
i miss Eddie
idk. i might be crazy but for some reason i like otis's singing the most of these four. fave is david ruffin though :D
