Just before his first performance as Huey Calhoun in Memphis, Adam Pascal joined the show's Tony-winning composer David Bryan for a very personal performance of "Memphis Lives in Me." As Bryan recently told Broadway.com, he and Pascal share a rock sensibility (Bryan as a member of Bon Jovi; Pascal as a vet of Rent and solo recording artist), and the two are obviously feeling simpatico about Pascal's Broadway return in Bryan's long-running hit. I was lucky enough to see him and Anthony from the front row in 2009 during the Rent tour. Still can't believe it. I love listening to him sing this song!

We saw him Nov 4th and he was absolutely amazing. We had no idea he was so new to the role at the time so it just goes to show.
I saw him play Huey in June. He was incredible. He made me laugh so hard that I cried, he sang so perfectly that I cried...he made me cry a lot XD

He was absolutely phenomenal when I saw him in January. He and Montego had such chemistry onstage and his voice just rang through the theatre. We were 6th row from the stage, and he was just so emotional in every aspect. Great performer

There's something so brilliant about songs that are just the singer and one instrument. It's so simple yet so effective.
On another note, that's a fucking D above the staff that Adam is hitting with his chest or mix. That's fucking awesome. We've heard him hit the C and D flat in Pity the Child #2 but this tops it.

the whole point of theatre is it allows other people to play the character. That's why I love it, and I hate when people try to compare people who have played the same roles. They are 2 different actors playing the same role. But how can you judge who was better, acting is so subjective that I honestly don't know how you can compare the two. They are both great, plan and simple.
Adam Pascal!!! Words can't describe how incredible he ALWAYS is!! Missed seeing him in Detroit with Anthony Rapp in the final tour of RENT so coughed up the bucks and went to see it when the tour hit Cinncinatti later. Best money I've ever spent!!

i agree it's just beautiful. i was never a big fan of plays or musicals. well i just took a class and I'm enchanted. i watched Chad's pereformance and fell in love. then I went to broadway and watched Fiddler On The Roof, Le Miserable, and The Crucible it was amazing but nothing beats chad singing this song.

Just came back from the show! Adam was amazing! Sad thing is he didn't come out the Stage Door after the show!
chad is huey. Huey used to be just a name on a script, but them chad came in and brought him to life. the funny, the meaningful, the goofy, all of it. and especially the voice. when Adam played Huey, to me, and I'm sure many others, it's was literally Rodger with a country accent. some people were born to bring different characters to life. for chad, it was Huey, and for Adam it was Rodger. it's just a fact of life. I'm definitely team chad when it comes to Huey. he just embodies the real Huey.
This is AMAZING! I'm sure that Adam will be incredible in this! I can't wait to buy the tickets-I'm definitely saving up so I can go and I KNOW it will be worth it. While Chad originated this role, he had to step down because of health issues. He was not forced to, and the show must go on, so Adam is now taking over his role as Huey. Someone had to do it, and I'm so glad that it was Adam.
His vocal ability is just staggering. His version of this song has so much more depth than the original Huey.It's a crime that Pascal doesn't do the soundtrack version.

I've gone back and forth listening to this and Chad's version and I like them both a lot! They perform it with their own spin...Chad's more blusey and Adam's more hard edged and shows off his crazy range.
They're both REALLY good.

I saw the show back in January, and Adam Pascal wasn't there. His understudy filled the role but I thought he was pretty good, and besides, I didn't know who this Adam Pascal guy was anyway. Recently I got really into RENT and now I'm mad that I missed seeing him live in this show.

@defyinggravity - Pascal told my daughters at one of his concerts years ago in Charlotte NC (he was signing a CD for them) that he stopped going out to the stage door because of some "scary" experiences during Rent. I believe he even wrote a song about "fans" who think that he was really the "character" he played in Rent. It seems he has changed his mind and glad to hear it.

@tominnyc1 It's good to read your reply and I agree. He's made the role his own and that is good. But it irks me when people try and tell us that it is better than Chad's when he has developed it for so many years...different, excellent, maybe...but not better. I think your last sentence is the key...it's the show that touches our hearts the most. We can't forget the other excellent actors on stage with whoever Huey is...they are all part of the wonderful experience.

You can't compare this to Chad. When you hear Chad, he IS Huey and you feel the passion. Here, Adam is just singing the song. Maybe when when you hear him on stage as Huey, you can feel it too. I don't know...haven't seen him. I'm just hopin' Chad will be back before my next trip to New York.

it'll be hard to picture anyone else as Huey other than Chad because he originated the role, just like how it's hard to picture anyone else but Adam as Roger Davis; doesn't mean they're any better or worse than the other, it simply means they're different people and bring different sides to Huey
