I still have my Triton Pro-X in my home studio. 2 exp plus MOSS. Still in love :) I didn’t buy the VST though, but considering what I payed back in the 90s, Korg should just give it to me 😂😂😂
Fantastic Woody. Korg did great synths back then. Love the sound of the 90s and early 00s , really clean crystal sounds. I own the TR-Rack and it’s amazing as well :)))
If I was in a top 40s cover group or something, it's probably not possible to hang onto the same keyboard for more than a couple years. I'm not. I just want to record my CDs at home and not answer to anybody about the content or how dated it is. I LOVE That Krome and I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but mainly for the pianos. They aren't that expensive, but I have more than I need with the Triton. So old, it has a floppy drive. :)
This VST is Brilliant. Reflects the hardware very well. I'm glad i can dig into all this sounds. I even didn't know how many early 2000 song were based on Triton. And those sounds are still fresh to me. Cheers!
It brings it all back hearing these sounds and it makes the wife annoyed when i point out a certain sounds comes from a certain keyboard. You can tell she's really interested 👀

I just remember beat makers using the Triton and Motif and hearing the sounds in music and films. Nostalgia hits hard but yea this never went out of style.
@@WoodyPianoShack True. Plus you had the option of installing the MOSS VA card. On the Morpheus and other EMU modules you could actually effectively sweep through the wave at various starting points. On the JD990 you have some sort of cross modulation.
The Triton (Classic/Rack/Studio/Extreme models, LE/TR could be upgraded) wasn't solely a "ROMpler" because it came standard as a full SAMPLER with A/D audio inputs, up to 64/96MB RAM (depending on model), Akai/WAV/AIFF sample import, and full sample editing facilities on its large touchscreen, and mass storage capabilities (SCSI/CF Card/USB, depending on model). So, you could load new waveforms, sample your own (through 5 fx processors, if you want), and run the samples through the synth engine just like the ROM waveforms.
I remember playing one in the music shop when they first came out back in 1999 & was blown away by the sound. I saved up & bought the Triton Pro76 in 00
I purchased this before watching your videos but you have confirmed I made a good choice. Some very nice sounds to use in some of my ambient and chill stuff. Pianos not so good but Montage will take care of them. 😊
The authenticity of MANY instruments in Triton is stunning...... I think the big challenge is learning to play the instrument with the proper "touch", or maybe even "embouchure", although that term is pretty specific to wind and brass instruments....... it's one thing to play a trumpet sample as you would a piano, and quite another to be able to translate expression from mouth to hand to get a convincing trumpet performance. Regardless, in terms of modeled acoustic instruments, Triton is phenomenal and especially for its technical age.
This synth is awsome! It was used on pretty much every bit of trance music in the early 2000’s. Faithless have used it too if I remember correctly. Korg should really release this one on iOS and make it available in Gadget that would be bliss!
A lot of those sounds are already in Gadget really. Between the built in gadgets that use a similar PCM/S+S synth architecture, the add-ons like M1 and Wavestation gadgets, and the Module gadget that has 'best of' Triton and 'Dreamy Synth' add on libraries, that Korg workstation sound is represented quite well without a full Triton inside.
Found out about Korg Triton a couple weeks ago when I was still struggling to find keys from the 90s/00s . I Downloaded the vst one night, n lemme tell u , I’ve never been so satisfied, it was just what I needed !
Hi there I explored the topic of midi and the banks in the Triton VST, and based on information in the appendix of the original Triton manual and some further ”trial and error”, I want to share, that MSB for all banks are 000, LSB for Factory banks 000-003, for Card banks 008-016, and for User banks 032-035. PC for all banks are the usual 000-127. So you can easily and immediately call up from your keyboard any address on f.ex. the 2176 Combi set-ups. To me this is important and “good news”, especially regarding the User banks. Even with the "old" and not very "distinct" or "dynamic" sounds, I agree that especially the combis in this VST are fabulous and really nice to play with. Good day.
Hi Woody, I watched your other video a few days ago and have since downloaded and been trying out this vst version of the Triton. I have a hardware Triton Rack and must admit that the vst is amazingly accurate. To be honest, I like the vst as it has all of the expansion packs added. Waiting for a sale to come along to go ahead and buy the whole set of Korg vst synths.
Great demo (as usual), Woody!! I neglected to give it a thumbs-up a few years ago!!! I always liked the sound of the Triton, but did want to spend the bucks back in the day. I'm VERY happy that Korg's VSTi's are SO GOOD!! Now, I have my "Triton"!!! 🙂🎉
2:36 Everytime I use the browse feature and I choose a preset I cant play notes with my laptop keyboard like I can with all other vsts until I either click the vst toolbar or click the section where the preset name is (where it says write, menu) (I'm in FL Studio). It does work with midi keyboard but not with laptop keyboard the way I explained. Anyone know why? The plugin is vst3 64 bit and my daw is 64bit.
Woody, I bought the Triton VSTi the moment it released (never a question about it in my mind - I used to own a Triton Studio keyboard and I've missed it for too long). One thing that puzzles me is why Korg included the Future Loops expansion in the VSTi. This particular expansion, in the original hardware keyboard, relied on the Triton's built-in sequencer to work - you could load 'songs' from the expansion into the onboard sequencer and then find ready-to-play loops (built from Future Loops hundreds of multi-samples) on each key of the keyboard. I haven't yet been able to figure out how to use Future Loops in the VSTi. They are just disconnected samples that still clearly form part of a loop, but there appears to be no way to get them to playback under one key like they used to. Am I missing something obvious? Any ideas? Nobody seems to know the answer - and, of course, absolutely no help from Korg about how Future Loops are supposed to be used in the VSTi. BTW, my all-time favorite Triton sound is 'Ascension'. Still *the* best pad sound I have ever owned, in any instrument or VSTi, ever (including Omnisphere 2), to date (I suspect it's the real reason I had to buy this VSTi!).
@@WoodyPianoShack Hi Woody - The pad is called 'The Ascension' Factory Bank C (it's a combi) INT-C 098. Try it with some dreamy Maj9ths (very Chicane 'Offshore') and perfect bedding pad for just about anything!
Very interesting demo, Woody! I enjoyed listening you presenting all those sounds that I still use on my Korg Triton Studio. And yes, I never thought that the “Noisy Stabber” would sound so cool!

Nice Demo! Inspired me to dig out my original Triton Classic from storage... By the way... this new VST plugin has WAY MORE DEEEEP BASS than the old hardware. Very cool!
Congratulations on your fabulous video! I owned a fully maxed out Triton Classic with MOSS board and EXB01 and EXB02 expansions along with 64MB sampling RAM and SCSI option. I used its excellent onboard sequencer to create full music productions on just that instrument and a fully expended Roland XV3080. I could not stand the Triton's factory acoustic piano programs and I'm convinced that Korg deliberately put in those crappy sounds in order to sell their EXB01 and EXB08 piano expansion cards. The acoustic and electric pianos in the EXB01 are a huge improvement, as are the orchestral sounds in the EXB02. The Triton Classic really should have included those extra sounds and waveforms as standard! The MOSS board was a fantastic addition but it didn't sound as good as my 18 voice Korg Z1. I've now got both the Triton and Triton Extreme plug ins and they're excellent value, especially because they include all the expansions as standard.
I still have the original hardware Triton here in my studio...along with the M3 that came later. I've been thinking of putting them on EBay or something.
This video has me looking at Korg Triton racks now, well, I've kinda always wanted the Triton in a rack format to pair with my Nord Stage 2. The Triton VST sounds amazing, I demoed it on my iMac and was impressed, it's just I'm a hardware guy, not a software guy.
I've been playing around with the demo version for about a month and I love this plugin. If it's on a good sale, I'm grabbing this! Such fab tones. I personally don't care if it's any close to the original. Whatever sounds good, I'll take it! :)
@@WoodyPianoShack Yeah I wish they had like a 30-day free trial with no 20 minute time limit. But even with the 20 minutes, I'm having lots of fun just scrolling through the huge amount of presets and finding great sounds.
great synth woody...I need to make some patches...I've made about 2 or three :) I also have the m3...very similar architecture! only thing id say is they need to allow the triton vst as an effect to use the vocoder/reverb/eqs/chorus and delays on any audio signal...they only have 1 output at the moment
Sounds pretty much identical to what I remember of my Triton Extreme, so I'd say they did a good job! Only things I feel they missed with this are some Triton Extreme patches (E.Bass Ray is one of the BEST bass patches Korg ever made) and the MOSS board... but maybe they're saving that for a dedicated MOSS/Z1/Prophecy softsynth~
If who have money to spend get: triton rack ,n364/n264 and t series(2;3) full of character and ex5r, fs1r ,motif xs from Yamaha and is pretty much you need.
Hello. Could you PLEASE tell me what song you're playing at 13:28? I've been trying to find it in my head and in different apps for about 15 minutes and NOTHING. Thanks for the great overview. I'll be buying it soon.
I like that they kept some skeuomorphism around the edges to remind you what model you are playing. Wish they had kept some of that on the new version of Wavestation plugin.
Still waiting for the fantom to get its own plugin since it’s competitor the triton has one. Both the fantom and triton are still used today in trap music. There is a few soundfonts of the fantom in a lot of kits.
Hi Woody; great video... here's a question. I own an Korg triton and wonder if it is possible to "create" a sound in the VST and then somehow transfer it to the triton internal memory ( I figure the "user" folder)?. I know it could be done via sysex file transfer but instead use the midi connection? That way I could work and store sounds and banks on the vst but use them directly on the keyboard off line. Greetings from Chile!!
I own a Triton Extreme 88 with Moss board, and a Triton Le since the 90s, still got them, and use them. I also have the legacy collection with MS20 usb controller, I would still love this vst too lol.. Massive pads, crap pianos, but more good than bad sounds. They should have added MOSS and a valve model to this vst. And maybe even sampling? Routed through triton fx would be cool. So many missed opertunities to improve this. But I love it regardless. Well played and demoed woody.
Great video Woody - this thing sounds incredible. Have always had a soft spot for Korgs - had the 01/WFD many moons ago and currently have the first generation Kross. If there's a hardware synth out there with more bang for your bucks, I've yet to hear it. Bit like the Triton - really ballsy dynamic sounds! Would love to see you test drive the Kross 2 - Korg, if you're listening please lend Woody one for the weekend!
Can you do a video of the fabulous Korg 01/fd? Sounds were sampled at 32khz which give the 01w/fd that unique 'warm' sound that it has, especially on string sounds.. Thank you..
Hi! Thx for this video...I was wondering if it's possible to map the 2 buttons "sw1" and "sw2" and the ribbon controller as well (downleft). Of course i can switch them on/off by the mouse click but i didn't reach in MIDI mapping them, did you?
Now its 2024. Korg recently released Collection 4. Maybe do an update to this video if they included new presets or updated the interface to be fully scalable rather than VST2 preset sizes.
I too actually have experience with the triton, it was always my “rented” workstation, and then in 2012, i bought an m50 because the keyboard layout was almost the same as the triton
Thank you for the demonstration. Is it possible to create a User General midi bank with the high quality sounds it has,in order to play GM songs and files?
Speaking of pads. I need to figure out what Chicane was using to make Far From the Maddening Crowds. I must say, it didn’t take much arm twisting to get me to snatch this up on release while they were having a sale 😊.
I love your video presentations, Woody, and this one about the Korg Triton was really informative and made me get the VST. Perhaps you (or someone else) can help me with this problem: I use MIDI control for as many parameters as possible. Using program change on the Triton VST only calls up the programs (or combis) in the Factory Bank A. One should think it possible to use PC and bank messages to get access to other banks, especially the user banks, but it seems that unlike the original keyboard, there is no way of using bank messages on the VST? And there is no information in the manual about bank messages for choosing the other banks. Can that be right? I want to be able to use PC messages to choose programs/combis in the user banks. The alternative is to save every set-up separate in my DAW and use the good BOME Midi-Translator to choose the exact right one, but that will take a lot of time, and if the first mentioned problem was solved, it wouldn’t be necessary. Thanks.
i'm sorry, i've never really understood midi program change, let alone bank change LSB MSB etc. But I have noticed that it's possible, because when I made bank changes on the hardware triton and recorded it, the plugin responded!
@@WoodyPianoShack Thanks for a quick reply :-) But I don't have the hardware Triton and still don't know, how to make PC changes in the different banks. If it indeed is possible to use bank change messages, where would you find the right numbers and entrances?
Hi again Woody Thanks for your interest. I was thinking, if you can change banks in the VST from your hardware, you may be able to see, what bank messages it is sending (MSB + LSB). I would be happy to get those numbers for the different banks. Is that possible? @@WoodyPianoShack
Dont forget the Karma version of the Triton. This was the same synth but had a built in super advanced (for the time)arpeggiator, extra real time controls and one shot chord pads.. The Karma function takes the combis to another level. You can pick them up on ebay for less than the cost of a midi keyboard!
Ive got the Korg Karma its a great synth bought in in 2000 along with a Roland JP8000! Two off the best trance synth at the time and still sound as good as anything out there!!
The Triton Extreme was more like a deep blue/navy color than black. I played with one that was on clearance at Guitar Center after the M3 came out. I sort of regret not buying it; the price was ridiculously low and the keyboard felt good. Quite a few people on the old Harmony Central KSS forum were fans of the MOSS board. I did own a M3M with the Radias and expansion ram boards for a while. I liked it but it cried for a dedicated keyboard, so I bought a Kronos first version and sold it. Later I sold the Kronos and went workstation-free with just a 88-key MIDI controller.
Hi Woody. If both Korg and Roland came to you in the same week and asked you to promote their Vst products exclusively which would you choose: Roland Cloud or Korg Classic Vsts?
I love all KORG Legacy plug-ins! The only thing that bothers me is when I accidentally hit 99 on Release time, the sound just goes on and on and on and there's no way stopping it :)) Wish the Roland Cloud thing would be as good, trouble and CPU free as KORG Software Pass.
Just got the Triton Extreme VST. Amazing the amount of quality and dosen't even take up 500MB of space. Definitely the best plugin for beats and pop music
This is an excellent VST. I own a Triton Extreme 88 and the VST is comparable.... Nice to have a more portable version of my triton sounds.Things it's missing or I've noticed. One or two combis don't behave quite as they should. I also wish it had a dedicated Triton Extreme mode (they show an image of one in their media/advertising). Being able to import and export patches would be amazing. Wish my actual Triton would just work out the box as a controller of a patch... ribbon control and the 4 assignable knobs. Finally... how about emulating the MOSS board as well. Korg... Are you listening? Love this thing though and the real one. The pads esp. Are beautiful. Maybe some off these and the features you mention Woody will come in the future. Nice Video and review/overview as ever. Thanks

great synth woody...I need to make some patches...I've made about 2 or three :) I also have the m3...very similar architecture! only thing id say is they need to allow the triton vst as an effect to use the vocoder/reverb/eqs/chorus and delays on any audio signal...they only have 1 output at the moment
@@XavierRadix These 20 minutes of fame in the lime.
HI Again Woodster, I just bought the korg arp opdessy and got my korg wavestate a couple of days ago. Great for one armed chaps.
i can imagine, actually the wavestate is famous for its one finger jams...
@@WoodyPianoShack thats why I got it. Awesome cheat machine. The arp... Not so much, totally different animal.
triton and trinity rack are next on my list of gear after the xv5080
Try the Roland Zenology it could be all you need.
If who have money to spend get: triton rack ,n364/n264 and t series(2;3) full of character and ex5r, fs1r ,motif xs from Yamaha and is pretty much you need.
This sounds great ! Are the expansion packs included if I buy the software version ?
Hello. Could you PLEASE tell me what song you're playing at 13:28? I've been trying to find it in my head and in different apps for about 15 minutes and NOTHING. Thanks for the great overview. I'll be buying it soon.
Hi Sergio, if you haven't found it yet the melody is from Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman.
@@mihalydr.magyar4095 THANK YOU!!
I like that they kept some skeuomorphism around the edges to remind you what model you are playing. Wish they had kept some of that on the new version of Wavestation plugin.
I absolutely love the triton and m1 vsts.
I have this vst and also the Korg workstation but I never really explored it , I produced with MPC software I think I will try it .
The Triton was on countless hits from the early 2000's.
Still used today
I really enjoyed this video Thank you!!
Nicely Done Woody
what do you prefer, the Korg Collection 2 suite or the Roland one? Could you test the Roland Ultimate library?
zenology covers vintage analog better, but triton has the epic combis! no plans to cover ultimate at the moment
It's a fantastic vst,
I used to own the 61 keyboard in my early music career.
Greetings from Chile!!
hello chile! no, I don't think it's possible to import or export programs from the vst.
@@WoodyPianoShack thanks Woody, further review confirmed the same. I will have to find a sysex transfer software, cheers!!!
Does it have a dedicated 16 part multi mode for sequencing in a DAW allowing you to run just one instance of the VST?
8 parts, you could use one instance except only one pair of stereo outs, so can't route to separate tracks.
Thanks.., I’ll probably pick this up. I used to own the Triton Classic. They seem to have really nailed the sound reproduction.
Would love to see you test drive the Kross 2 - Korg, if you're listening please lend Woody one for the weekend!
totally onboard with the kross 2, fingers krossed!
I love this and after the M1 vst my new Win11 gets this one! With Cubase and the Korg Triniton ....not bad!
Can you do a video of the fabulous Korg 01/fd? Sounds were sampled at 32khz which give the 01w/fd that unique 'warm' sound that it has, especially on string sounds.. Thank you..
i usually keep an eye out of them, i rarely see them for sale but when they pop up they are very cheap!
Hi! Does It works even like editor of the triton hardware synth or It's only a VST?
Hi! Thx for this video...I was wondering if it's possible to map the 2 buttons "sw1" and "sw2" and the ribbon controller as well (downleft). Of course i can switch them on/off by the mouse click but i didn't reach in MIDI mapping them, did you?
Thanks for sharing this video. It was entertaining as well as informative. I felt good, seeing you having fun with the plugin.
top notch quality of a video!
Now its 2024. Korg recently released Collection 4. Maybe do an update to this video if they included new presets or updated the interface to be fully scalable rather than VST2 preset sizes.
Hi. I'm new to this. Is it possible to use two presets at the same time? For example: USER-A 002 Gods Bathtub + EXB-F /018 ClassicPiano&Str
I too actually have experience with the triton, it was always my “rented” workstation, and then in 2012, i bought an m50 because the keyboard layout was almost the same as the triton
23:20 this entire part holy shit, one of the most beautiful presets ive heard in my life tbh
Bleep + bloop = serotonin
Thank you for the demonstration. Is it possible to create a User General midi bank with the high quality sounds it has,in order to play GM songs and files?
phwoof, I have no idea about that. maybe somebody else?
Hi my friend. Is the Sound from the Orginal Korg Triton Keyboard a little better than the Triton Plugin??
Im having trouble mapping my controller knobs to the software. Can u help me out plz?
Hello! I own the Korg Triton Pro X and was wondering how to get the sound expansion packs on my board? Thank you!
i do not know myself maybe somebody? or try korg forums.
@@WoodyPianoShack sounds good. Thanks!
I'm new to downloading vst .. I'm on a macbook is it possible to download this vst to a mac? I was told mac doesnt use vst but I really dont know lol.
Mac supports both VSTs and AU pluggins so yes you can use it!
Is in the Vst even the Extreme presets , such as Ibiza Sunrise etc ?I don’t see it...
Speaking of pads. I need to figure out what Chicane was using to make Far From the Maddening Crowds. I must say, it didn’t take much arm twisting to get me to snatch this up on release while they were having a sale 😊.
I seem to remember at the time he relied heavily on a Nord Lead and an EMU sampler.
I love your video presentations, Woody, and this one about the Korg Triton was really informative and made me get the VST.
Perhaps you (or someone else) can help me with this problem:
I use MIDI control for as many parameters as possible.
Hi again Woody
Thanks for your interest.
You can pick them up on ebay for less than the cost of a midi keyboard!
always been curious about that board, one day....
Nice, what keyboard hardware you use along
with the triton vst?
thx, NI A49
What’s a practical way to use aftertouch on a midi keyboard?
often used to add vibrato or open a filter to brighten the sound.
Sold! Im going to pay a bit (now that its no longer a bunch) of “pretty money” and get this!
Hi Woody. If both Korg and Roland came to you in the same week and asked you to promote their Vst products exclusively which would you choose: Roland Cloud or Korg Classic Vsts?
not so long ago., i think i did zenology and triton vst in same week :)
I wonder if it is possible to remove some "hiss" noise from some high-pitched sounds ...
that might be the sound of aliasing you are hearing, and no not possible to remove on the synth.
@@WoodyPianoShack ... I will try using noise reduction vst, thanks Woody lot for the reply ! and congrats for the video!
Dear Woody, help is needed. What should I get if I can afford only 2 of them: Korg M1 and Triton or Roland D-50, Juno 106, Jupiter 8, System 8?
you're talking software emulations or real hardware? jupiter 8... ?!
@@WoodyPianoShack Only VSTIs.
Hang on, that was a little Hornsby “Look out any window” there. Nice!
can these same sounds be made with the hardware version or does the vst have alot more possibilities for creating sounds?
good question, i don't believe the software is more powerful or has more samples.
Can you please make a comparison video between the Korg Triton orginal Keyboard and the Korg Triton Plugin...Please please🙏🙏
i did try but my NI midi interface freaked out when I connected the triton. seems to be a common issue with them, so I'm not sure how to tackle it.
@@WoodyPianoShack Thats very sad
@@Rnb24565 i may have some good news for you... stay tuned :)
@@WoodyPianoShack Thanks!
Let's hope they decide to include Karma function too as part of a Korg VST soon....
Can you do a quiet storm tutorial :( I can't find any.
See Roland fans, Korgs are King for PADS!!! And no silly rental fees..
Thanks
some great suggests, totally agree on all points, especially at this price!
please help me how set Split
this one is great, after buying it, i'm hoping for a Z1 with great banks.. not like the real Z1 with horrible factory presets.
Was that the multi-timbral prophecy?!
