  • For the first time in Germany, the implantation of a subretinal retinal bionic microchip for the treatment of patients with dry AMD was successful. Two patients at the Eye Clinic Sulzbach with advanced geographic atrophy were able to benefit from this new technology currently undergoing evaluation in the Pixium PrimaVera Clinical Trial (NCT04676854). The bionic microchip from the company Pixium Vision is implanted under the macula and replaces the dead photoreceptors of the macula by electrical impulses. This could enable such patients to live more independently again.
