I came across a plastic tub with what looked like throw away things. I went through it looking for scrap. There were 5 cell phones in it. Haven’t finished taking them apart yet. Some times I need to use a hammer on them, no apparent opening. Your video is just what I need. 🐎🌻✌️
Some items like the circuit boards that have the gold plated strip can be done with high concentrate vinegar. I have not done yet as it takes a lot of boards to make it worth your effort.
Nice to hear. I think a lot of people either don’t know how to recycle them properly or don’t want to pay to get rid of them so unfortunately you see a lot in the garbage.
@@TinManScrapper there is even special bins in the post office too. I saw document few years ago. I think precious metals they get out a ton of phone is big dollars.
I've stripped out a couple mobile phones just to see whats in worth anything. For all the trouble of opening them up and the miniscule amount of gold and other precious metals inside, they're absolutely not worth your time. Better to just find a donation box if it's usable or send to ewaste recycling. Old desktop computers are way worth stripping.
Hey Tin Man Scrapper, can you please do a video reguarding laws about curbside collecting on garbage nights? If I were to go curbside collecting, I would get a fine going thru someone's garbage left at curbside. I live in a township/borough. I know USA law states curbside is public property and that garbage left curbside on garbage night is forfeit property by the home owner. Can you please make a video about this? I know I have the right to pick up trash on garbage night as long as I am not going thru recycling bins or thru trash bags. In some areas they make you fill out for a permit or license to be able to scrap. It really bothers me that you can get fined in certain areas or have to get a license to pickup scrap curbside, they threatened fines when it is public property? Thank you hope to see a video reguarding scrapping laws. No1 on youtube or anywhere has a video with this information. It would be a life saver for me thanks. All scrappers need this information and I know you can provide it for us 💯
@@TinManScrapper thank you, I forgot we are in different countries. But I will look forward to seeing a video when you create it. Have learned a lot from you already. Keep it going 👍
Awesome information, I agree with the price of Gold, you don’t want to forget about it.
Going through the drawer to find old phones. Thanks for the info. Blessings.
The screws with the "star" with the little pin in the center are called Tamper Proof Torx head screws...

Some are very difficult to open and smashing them open is sometimes the only option.
Sometimes the gold coloured battery springs are actually beryllium copper
nice tantalum capacitor on the board too
Great information. Too bad I can't find a place that accepts hard plastic from appliances. That would eliminate a lot of waste going to the landfill.
When you talk about silver contact and gold contact. How do I find someone to melting down into real gold and real silver?
its amazing how much gold plated stuff there is in them old cell phones!
I though top of the battery is a little circuit board in a separate to the battery if you open one of your see it.
You say gold played? Gold plated doesn't sell for much does it? How do you process plated into pure gold?

Where are you taking the gold? Scrapyard?
just been saving pins for now. waiting for gold to go up and looking at ways to refine, etc.
So just circuit boards? Nothing you can just clip off or something?
Little bit of tin or aluminum shell sometimes, but mainly circuit board.
Im half way through processing for gold recovery 70 cell phones.. Maybe 40 done and I just melted a 5.5 gram gold bead.
Awesome. Happy scrapping
Organisations here in Australia will send you a free posted paid bag so you can send them your phones.

It will take some research, since I live in Canada and laws vary from country, state region, etc. i can do in foreseeable future.
