To me, no one will ever speak a better and superb sounding English than Orson Welles. That old vintage American accent (if I describe it correctly) is something you don't hear nowadays anymore, unfortunately. Wonderful speaker!
I worked at MGM and had the pure joy of talking to Welles on the phone one day. He was upset with John Derek, whose picture I was working on, and gave me the message he wanted passed along to Derek, who was out to lunch. Orson Welles cursed up one side and down the other of that phone line and I was in pure heaven. After all, he wasn't cursing me directly, he was leaving a message. In that fabulous golden voice. Incidentally, he was right to be angry, but that's not the point. I treasure hearing his voice in my ear.
@@EstherLuttrellsSundayStories That's a great story and he was one of if not the best in Hollywood ever. A true genius and his voice is one I'll never forget in my entire life. Citizen Kane was the greatest movie ever made. Rosebud.
Orson Welles died Oct. 10, 1985 sometime in the before 10 am in the morning. On the evening of October 9, 1985, Welles recorded his final interview on the syndicated TV program The Merv Griffin Show, appearing with biographer Barbara Leaming. "Both Welles and Leaming talked of Welles's life, and the segment was a nostalgic interlude," wrote biographer Frank Brady.[23]: 590-591 Welles returned to his house in Hollywood and worked into the early hours typing stage directions for the project he and Gary Graver were planning to shoot at UCLA the following day. Welles died sometime on the morning of October 10, following a heart attack.[20]: 453 He was found by his chauffeur at around 10 a.m.; the first of Welles's friends to arrive was Paul Stewart.[75]: 295-297 Welles was 70 years old at his death.
One of the greatest orator’s of all time. Such a compassionate, humble and brilliant man . Imagine a person, these days speaking so fondly of an ex spouse . He’s proof of the deterioration , decay and degradation of society this past 30+ years. RIP Orson .
RIP Orson Welles (May 6, 1915 - October 10, 1985), aged 70 And RIP Merv Griffin (July 6, 1925 - August 12, 2007), aged 82 You better will be remembered as legends.
I have Orson Welles' voice all over my TH-cam channel, at Esther Luttrell's Sunday Stories. He was fantastic. The irony is that he died 2 hours after this interview. A remarkable man.
Food for thought: Orson Welles was born in Kenosha, WI, along with well known actors, Don & Jim Ameche, Daniel J. Travanti, Al Molinaro & Concetta Tomei. A lot of talent between Chicago & Milwaukee.
These actors are great but do you know who is greater? Jesus. He is selfless and loving. He died for everyone's sins, past, present, and future. Be careful when watching these films. We mustn't make these people our idols. Exodus 20:3-5 says "You must not have any other god but me. You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens on earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods." Not only that, but the end times are here. 2 Timothy 4:1-5 states "You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. People will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!" This is merely to inform people, not to attack them. God bless.

I agree 100%.
So wonderful how he spoke of Rita Hayworth. You can feel the genuine love and respect he had. for her.
Well, he seemed pretty cheerful and went quickly two hours later. Rather amazing to have this.
Really miss him. I could listen to him talk about his life for hours. Thanks for posting this.
We are all so lucky to have lived in the same lifetime as Orson Welles.

Literally his LAST interview (well televised anyway), he died mere hours later.
Two hours to be exact.
@@kentduryea7109 oh wow really that's mind blowing.
That’s wild 😳. Wow.
Interesting too that Merv was talking about conducting Rita Hayworth's last appearance too.
This interview was actually on Oct 9th.
Absolutely a Legend and the best Film producer of all time.
I love how Orson says "Seventy!" As if living to that age is as absurd as emphasizing the "in" in "in July".
it’s good seeing this, the other interview I saw of him old he was in a bad mood, this is Orson
My Number One guest at a soirée. Cinema Royalty. Orson Welles RIP.
The story is Merv Griffin said Orson said to him (this time) "Ask me anything". He had never said that in his previous appearances
As if Orson knew this would be his last chance to say these things. Eerie!

Actually this was taped evening of Oct. 9th, 1985. Orson died the morning of the 10th.

Enjoying this with a glass of Paul Masson
One of my heroes
"Too much talk, and not enough action." That got to me.
Two hours later he had a heart attack and died.
RIP Orson Welles (May 6, 1915 - October 10, 1985), aged 70
And
RIP Merv Griffin (July 6, 1925 - August 12, 2007), aged 82
You better will be remembered as legends.
It was filmed on the evening the 9th. Not the 10th.
Orson Welles last film was in Transformers The Movie Animation 1986.
It would have been more interesting if this interview they talked about his role as Unicron on how he felt about doing the voice of Unicron.
@@jasonpalacios1363: Correct, but he passed away before TFTM 1986 was released.
So his last role was playing a God like planet.
@@edwardhannah8507: Correct.
He got handsome with age. I notice he wouldn't dish out anything salacious on people.
He was always handsome.
He was real gentleman. Not one bad word about his peers.
Aside from Eli Kazan.
Or Peter Sellers
The master. What an original.

Orson Welles was an undisputed genius, but so was Merv Griffin.

Could you guys post Montgomery Clift Apperance Please
The last dialogue with one of the greatest film directors /Forget Tarantino/ , thank you
He delivered his own.last testament and i suspect he was well aware of it.
He knew he was going.
No interview before it's time. PAUL MASSON!!!
So this one is free....
Funny how telling people you're seventy now just gets a shrug. True even of eighty.
wow thats crazy, he died the same day
The day after, this interview was shot on the 9th and aired on the 10th.
@@adrianstanciu Ohh I see. Thanks for telling me
Orson Welles doesn't look very well. He would have completed his role in "Transformers" at about this time.
He completed Transformers a month prior. And he died only a few hours after this interview.
This interview was shot on the 9th. Was aired on the 10th. He died in the morning of the 10th.
@bob1986 He was describing this and he said it was about a bigger robot beating up on all the other robots.
Wrong date, please correct. This is October 9th. He was already dead by the date in the description.
His coloring is AWFUL. if you look closely, his lips are nearly grey.
Shirley Temple, Judy Garland, Orson Welles. Great child stars.
Unicron
He died the next morning...
He looks ill here
Yeah he died a few hours after this interview was taped.
