  • Frame Up Honda CR250 & CR500 Two Stroke Build - Vapor Blasting
    THE DIRT BIKE MAG HONDA BUILDS CONTINUE!
    In today's episode (Ep. 3 for the CR250 & Ep. 4 for the CR500) we cover the two types of media blasting commonly used in restoration.
    These methods are used widely among machinists, auto restoration industry, motocross bike builds, and more.
    Vapor Blasting is a bit newer on the scene & has rapidly taken the top spot as a means to bring back old parts from the dead. It's easy to see why!
    I hope you enjoy today's video!
    Thank you for all the subs, past, present and future for helping the mXrevival channel grow.
    Please consider subscribing for more moto-builds & smash the hell out of that like button if you enjoyed today's video.

    As promised, here are a few blast cabinet options too. I've selected a few that range from large to small, and will fit any budget depending on where you are in your restoration career at the moment.
    There are also links to the abrasive medias used to clean the parts in today's video as well as compressors needed to run these cabinets SUSTAINABLY. You can't cheap out on the compressor, trust me!
    The first is the Skat Blast cabinet I mentioned in the video. I used to own this cabinet & sold it too soon! I'd love to have this thing back! What a dumbass!
    CABINETS:
    1) TP Tools USA 2846 Skat Blast Sandblast Sandblasting Cabinet ($1400):
    amzn.to/3frhdxn
    2) Grizzly Industrial G0707-24" x 37" Blast Cabinet ($900)
    amzn.to/30JGlvb
    3) MH Amazon Abrasive Sand Blaster Cabinet Sandblaster 80 PSI 25 Gallon ($180)
    amzn.to/2YCROdp
    ABRASIVES:
    1) Glass Bead Abrasive Media - Creates High Shine in Vapor Cabinet & a satin/ OEM look when used in dry blast cabinets ($50)
    amzn.to/2AtnVnX
    2) Aluminum Oxide - Cuts FAST so be careful! Remove paint & prep for new coatings. Wet or dry blast ($60)
    amzn.to/2BbizO9
    COMPRESSOR EXAMPLE:
    1) Compressor - Just an example. Must have continuous 19CFM flow @90 PSI in order to work properly. Some 5hp compressors can do this & 7.5hp is more likely. Dual stage, with mag starter is ideal for electrical component longevity. (+/- $3000.00)

    I just started watching your channel not that long ago. Idk how i missed ya but just want to give ya props man. Your not your average rebuild a cr125 ect. guy that does the same as the last guy (not hating on the other people at all because im all about restoring an old bike in anyway). You just put alot of extra love an come up with cool ideas i haven't seen like dieing your engine case bolts an all the other trick stuff you come up with. You got it going on an have no idea why there isn't over 100k subs. You'll get there quick tho if you keep up this stellar work my brother. Mad love from Rhode Island.

      Let's push a few boundaries, brotha.

    A frame won't fit in it but there's a smaller Blue vapor blast cabinet I ordered from z1enterprises for $1000 plus shipping and it's plenty to do everything else on the bike engine cases you name it and it's been worth every penny and it doesn't need a bug air compressor either as long as it can push 5-10cfm your golden

    Excellent video Charles, once you vapor blast aluminium, is there any type of sealent you can use on the bike frame to keep that fresh aluminium look?

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks nick!
      Yeah definitely, you could have it hard anodized clear and that would probably hold up good for a while. You could probably have it ceramic coated clear as well.
      Everything wears eventually though, so any contact patches would just need to be covered up. Like the knee brace area and of course the lower frame spars where your boots rub.
      I think they would also give it a nice gloss. But overall, keeping it raw will make it easier to clean if it's a bike that gets ridden you know? A quick Scotch-Brite pad and your back in the game.
      Really good question. Could be plenty more ways that I'm not aware of also.

    Great video, thank you! I had some cases vapour blasted and I asked the guy not to blast the main bearing housings but he did anyway. He said it removes no metal, what are your thoughts on this please?

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah you're good. Don't worry about it. But, I avoid going hard on the internal areas of cases ONLY because if my cabinet is running- it's making the shop $. So it saves the customer some money instead of us blasting away another 30 minutes to an hour of his hard earned cash on parts of the engine that don't need it or wont be seen anyway (the shine we all like). If they were stained badly though, it may be needed in some cases.

    Is it possible to get a shiny finish using glass bead in a dry plaster?

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can get pretty damn close man! You have to use the finest bead and the lowest PSI that still cleans. Vapor blasters are great but you can do amazing things with dry blast still.

    Once you vapor blast the frame do you need to re anodise ? Thanks

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. You can, but they are not anodized from the factory either. The swingarms are however. That's the cool thing about building bikes- you can totally do it however you like.

  • @enrique7estrada
    @enrique7estrada 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the vapor blasting process, the difference between stage 1 and 2 is just pressure? What results would you get from doing stage 1 with dry blasting (AlOxide) at high pressure and Stage 2 in the vapor blaster at low pressure to polish? Would it be similar? Great job btw

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Enrique 🤜🤛
      That's a great question and a cool idea. I'll have to try it sometime and see.
      It would smooth out the rough finish of the A-OX most likely, which would make a less desirable surface for a reliable coat of paint/ Cerakote -BUT, it might retain the darker finish with a sheen after low pressure vapor/ glass bead. Just a guess if course.
      As for the dual stage vapor, yes. The high pressure strips & the low pressure shines. Think of it like using a coarse sandpaper on something, followed up by a more fine sandpaper.
      Hopefully that's a good analogy.

    I have been wanting to get a vapor blaster as well as a dry media blaster for my garage. My question is do you think it will be worth me trying to start a business and have people send me there parts. I work out of town alot and want to work at home and just wondering if it will be worth it

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll ask a question in return:
      -Do you want to dream about what it "could" be like? Or do you want to take that vision, the dream in your head, and literally make it materialize into everything you envisioned it to be and more?
      I think the answer is simple.
      Do it, and just remember:
      -It won't happen overnight
      -You will have success if you truly try
      -You will fail & lean A LOT which will make you crave more if that dream really feels right
      You can have anything you want. So yes, if you have the balls to do it- then you already know the answer 👊
      Go get them, Nick

    Yes vapor blasting is brilliant i built a diy one from dish washer pump & home made gun one way valve. you can put bakeing soda in it if you want but you wont get shiny results not like glass bead & its not just crushed glass people so dont buy that

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To add to that, harbor freight "glass bead" is actually crushed glass 😂😂😂 totally shards the part 🙃
      Congrats on your DIY-blaster. Very cool.
      I spent a good amount of time using soda in a dry blast/ HEPA system and found it to be hit or miss, but also not as brilliant as vapor as you said.
      I may mix in some soda with bead inside the vapor cab someday.
      Have a great day!
