Fabulous - thanks for coming to the beautiful Deben estuary and capturing the day in such a lovely way - Hope to see you again in 2024
My thoughts of Suffolk to walk have materialised
My dream to visit Suffolk and walk in the footsteps of my ancestors
Many thanks for your care of our beautiful country
Hello John. I volunteer at The Longshed for Woodbridge Riverside Trust - it's the best! Thank you for visiting our town and for appreciating what a great place Woodbridge is. Please come back again!
Suffolk, Brian Eno...Adnams. What a treat! Loved this one. Thanks John.
As a Woodbridge boy I remember when the tide mill had a proper mill pond not the paddling pool they use now. We used to fish there and have loads of fun as school boys.
I love seeing places where Sebald walked, and wrote about.
Ohhh Adnams. My absolute favourite. I just adore Suffolk too
What a magical little gem right here John Rogers. No wonder the loss for words.
Thanks so much Leslie
Another delightful video to watch after a busy day. I look forward to buying your new London book😊
Wonderful. Used to visit Woodbridge often in my plane-spotting days and later on visits to my parents who settled just up the coast. What a beautiful place.
I did my initial Royal Navy training at HMS Ganges just down the road in 1964. It's certainly a historic and lovely part of the world. 😉
What a joy to watch this wonderful Woodbridge film, John. You really captured the essence of the place. My partner and I stayed there for a week in August. The river Deben worked its magic, that's for sure. Not-to-mention the wildlife. The magical call of the curlew still singing in our ears.
Thanks for coming to visit John, and this beautiful video which encapsulates so well the 'Spirit of Place" "Spirit of the RIver" and the "Woodbridge Ambient Music Festival" - What a glorious weekend. Come and visit again soon ...
thanks so much to you Jan for an amazing day. Already looking forward to next year's festival

Oh John, my homeland. Thank you for your visit. Makes me even more homesick than usual!
My partner and I have both moved from Essex to Suffolk.. We do 'church crawling' and recently went to the church at Bucklesham where Basil Brown was actually born though he lived in Rickinghall when he was at Sutton Hoo. We often walk to Old Felixstowe at the mouth of the Deben and you can get rowed across to Bawdsey
What a very beautiful place. The history comes right through so clearly. It's clearly very special. Thank you for taking us along on your latest river adventure!
The calm before the coming storm...
In August my husband and I cycled from Cromer back to our home in Colchester, stopping off at places along the way. We spent two days in Woodbridge at The Bull and visited Sutton Hoo as well as exploring Woodbridge itself. What a lovely little town it is. Thanks for this video it was lovely to see it again.
Great that you visited Suffolk…… Woodbridge also holds an annual Seafood festival. Tons of history in this neck of the woods, from the unspoiled costal villages of Southwold, Walberswick & Dunwich to lovely old towns of Bures, Lavenham & Hadleigh. Surprisingly Ipswich still retains many old buildings & is also packed full of history. It has the oldest ring of five bells in the world - dating from the 1400’s - at St Lawrence’s church, one of many surviving medieval churches in the town. To my knowledge Brian Eno studied at the Ipswich School of Art in his early years. Hope you enjoyed your visit John. 👍
After a very stressful 24 hrs I gloomily switched on youtube this morning and found you'd posted this. Thank you ssoo much John, that gentle stroll round such a beautiful town has set me back up to cope with today. Bless you mate.
Sorry to hear about the stress Richie, but so glad the video helped
Excellent video... I spent a year (2000 to 2001) living in Woodbridge.
What a life you lead John 😁 thanks for taking us along with you
I have come to deeply appreciate your photographic composition. You show us such beauty. Reminiscent of French Impressionists. Thank you.
Lovely piece of "ambience" for a Tuesday morning.....(*_*)
We’ll be there in 2 weeks…just down the street from Simon, who’s father (and he) tan Adnams…I love Suffolk..
I love ambient music, but I've been calling it new age. Thank you for educating me on the proper term for this wonderful music.
Never got to Woodbridge were my boss lived as you say John a historical place of interest great vid
Happy Equinox John and Family xxx
Many thanks Morrigan
So tranquil, open water to the sea. Thanks for sharing your music interests with us
That was delightful. Woodbridge looks steeped in history. Great music & loved the river looking silver in the evening light.
One of my favourite places. I went there with my parents around 14 years ago. We found out a short time later that Griff Rhys Jones' mum lives there (as shown on the TV series "Who Do You Think You Are?").
Loved this escape to the water, ancient ships and music! Thank you!
I do know what you mean about the Sutton Hoo treasure, How they made that with basic tools and in daylight or rush/candle light only, blows me away.
Watching this in Cronulla Sydney as a storm rolls in , perfect relaxation…keep up the fabulous work John
What a wonderful image Harvey - I remember those epic Sydney storms
The skeleton is Dame Ophelia Bones of Lime Kiln Quay. She has lived in the tree in my garden for several years now. Thank you for featuring her.
what a wonderful thing Neil - thanks for creating the installation
John - what a great surprise. Of course I love your High Wycombe videos as I have worked in Bourne End for over 20 years but to see you in Woodbridge was a true surprise. My father and uncle were born there and I visit when I can - as a matter of fact Mr Eno (Brian's father) was my father's postman. The Deben is a wonderful river and its a shame you cannot walk on the southern bank all the way to Felixstowe which would be wonderful. Another highlight is the Whistle-stop cafe on the station and if you ever wander that way again maybe a video about Bawdsey.... fascinating place. Keep up the good work and stop talking about ADNAMS - you are making me thirsty!
I find your videos to be very soothing and relaxing yet quite informative and love when you release new content. I can pretty much guarantee that I will have an entertaining and enjoyable experience while watching your content. Thank you for your work
That’s wonderful to hear Stefano, many thanks
I feel the same :)
Never been to Woodbridge. Looks a beautiful idyllic little place.
Your video has now inspired the wife myself to book a weekend here next spring / summer.
A hidden gem.
Great walk thanks
A very special video. It's all about the rivers.
Oh I’m off to Woodbridge in 2 weeks
So will be definitely watching this tonight once home from work
Hope you enjoy it Jamie
Big fan of ENO. I wrote my undergraduate dissertation on his music. I am going to hear him perform .The Ship’ on the South Bank in October. A lovely video John which prompts me to want to visit Woodbridge.
After binge-watching so many of your videos I had to stop a few months ago because you were pulling too hard on my nostalgia for the Essex/London I grew up in. My book shelves suddenly required space for you and Iain and other London based writers.
I watch this and I instantly have a fresh yearning for my roots once more.
I need to make a visit.
tuesday night, and i'm just getting to watch this! lovely video, john - i do so enjoy the river walks, thanks!
Eno’s ’Ambient 4- On Land’ makes reference to his childhood in Suffolk too.
Wonderful film. Thank you.
Fantastic film John, cheers mate...
Cheers Ralph
My idea of heaven john!
what a delightful place.
Thanks John, perfect timing, something to keep me going and look forward too when I get home after work. I wish I could watch it now though.
Ah Brian. Lovely man.
Thank you, can't wait to do this walk 🎉
Such a delight to see you John, it made my night - surprise barely covers it! I've been coming to Suffolk since I was a child and when the city finally got too much, it was inevitable that I'd be drawn here. Of the Night Sky itself was conceived in a little fisherman's hut on the Blackshore Quay in Southwold in 2015 (with a copy of Sebald on my bedside table no less!) and this region's waters, coastline, history and permanence are in the music's DNA. Your video captures all of the qualities that made me move here and I'm glad it resonated with you as much as it continues to inspire me. Andy.:x
Amazing Andy - that really made my day and the serendipity of place just makes it perfect. So glad you enjoyed the video
Lovely video of a lovely town. You most definitely can't go to Suffolk without sampling the Adnams.
Wow! Woodbridge looks amazing thanks John for taking us with you.
Fascinating place, with its tide-mill, which I visited fleetingly, once, on the way to Aldeburgh. Your video shows what I missed and prompts me to return for a perambulation.
Hey it was a nice surprise to hear you know Andy Dobson; Haven't chatted with him since around 2001 (We were part of a small music collective) Good to hear he's still creating tunes.
Yet another enjoyable video John - Looking forward to the new book.
Absolutely lovely!
Barty
An amazing day ta be sure. FULL OF INTEREST. Thank you John
Just lovely. Thanks John.
thanks Robert
What a beautiful little town. I love watching your videos John, you have a very calming aura, put that together with the ambient tunes I’m nodding off in my works canteen 😴
Thank you for sharing your knowledge & adventures ✌🏻🧡🌈
Wonderful! Thankyou John,
Adnams Broadside..lovely drop on tap. They sell it in bottles at my local bottlo here in Adelaide, and even though its imported its cheaper than the local craft brews.
Thanks👍🏻
I've never been here, but one lives and learns! One for the list. Nice one John! ⭐👍
Well that was just a wonderful little tour!
many thanks - I had such a great day
Thank you…a brilliant presentation..
All across the nation, sure as night follows day.
After a busy week John, this was the perfect way to wind down, and enter into the weekend! Also, a mention of Sebald - pure bliss! ❤
John What A Wonderfull Place Thanks For Sharing Whith Us, Stay Safe
Amazing thanks John. Quite lovely.
Excellent. Thank you John for such a delightful video.
Wonderful video John - Thank you
What a musical treat for you John . This place looks magical 👍🏻
Just back from a trip to Bolton and this looks like a wonderful film to dive into after a long car journey. I'd have had FOMO if it had been sitting there since Sunday 😃. It looks like it's gonna be literally 'wonder'ful.
That was lovely, John. Thankyou for that trip. Why can't all places be like Woodbridge?
Wonderful film. Thank you. I enjoy all you videos but this was magical. I spent many family holidays on and around the Deben in the ‘70s as a child and this took me straight back to those happy times. Just lovely.
Excellent - enjoyed learning a bit about Brian Eno's hometown, and the Adnams looked tasty!
What a gorgeous place Woodbridge is John and what a lovely video!!!
smashing John 😍
Thanks Kim
nice!! thanks for this John!!!!!
My pleasure

🌬️ Thank You 💞 For Your Time & Research Into This Wonderful, Informative Video ! This is my type of environment 🌟 I thoroughly enjoyed the ancient buildings & history 👏 Hello from Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦
John, this is fabulous! 😊
Jan has told me a lot about you. I got to play on the river on the Saturday morning.. Glorious!
I look forward to ploughing through all your fantastic videos 👍🏽 thanks!
thanks so much Jackson - catch you at the festival next year
Great video. Beautiful area. I walked the Suffolk Coast a few years ago and it is fantastic - much nicer than Essex! For a minute I thought Gerry's Suffolk accent was strangely Irish-sounding; turns out he is actually Irish!
A great place. Thanks, John.
Woodbridge was always a place I wanted to visit, but alas never got round to. So thank you John for this vicarious visit. What a diamond of a small town. Loved the low water mud flats with the big East Anglian skies. You really have a tough job there John, but someone has to do it!
Hi John, watched the film last night where you was in Woodbridge and today walked into wetherspoons New Malden Adams broadside £2.66 a pint so I had to have a few .👍
My little car is called Brian Eno. Great film, John.
Brilliant
And he blows ya mind 😂
Wow
What a episode , what a spirit , what a place ….. loved every bit of it :)
What a terrific video John you looked completely in your element mate well done, have a good weekend and stay safe David 👍👍
Many thanks David
The shire hall supposedly needs a lot of work done and the town council don't want to foot the bill so they have announced plans to turn it over for housing.
Hi John! Thanks again for another corker of a journey. The first of two things I want to mention is the gable on the beautiful Shire hall (timestamp 11:30) and your comment that it is a Flemish gable. It is quite a surprise to see this beautiful example of such a gable. I grew up with such gables in South Africa, where the most well known example of such gables are to be found on the main building of Groot Constantia, South Africa's oldest wine estate. Over there these gables are called the "Cape Dutch" building style, rather beautiful (and a bit pompous too). The second thing I want to mention is that you have my support and nomination for the position of "Auditor-In-Chief for All Things Adnams". Please fly the flag with pride and vigour! 😀
What a smashing video, and such an incredibly beautiful place, thanks John, as usual a peaceful few mins in a hectic time 😊
Hi John. . .just catching up on your videos and saw this! Thanks so much for the mention. . .and for coming all the way to Woodbridge for the festival! It's a shame I didn't see you there on the day. Next time we should say hi and maybe grab a pint.
Lovely video
Great video John, Woodbridge and the River Deben look beautiful!
Fantastic, I never knew about the ambient music festival so will check it out next year!
Loving your new book - great to get it signed - really interesting evening on Fri at Wanstead 😀
That’s fantastic to hear. Many thanks - means a great deal
Beautiful film, John. See you at the tap on the 11th.
Just catching up, so nice to see beautiful Woodbridge on your walk!
