Dont open the oil cap befor you take off the drain plug. It will slow down the flow a little so it doesn't come out violently. Once drain plug removed go up top and loosen the oil cap
torque spec on the drain plug is 44 Nm (32.5 ft-lbs). You can fill the filter by pressing the gas pedal all the way and cranking the engine. That turns the fuel system off so that you can clear the engine if it is flooded.
i did everything you did but i didn’t jack up the car or used ramps. i just went down there and took off the drain bolt since it was reachable. good review!
Thanks for the vid - just changed oil in my 2019 Legacy 3.6 and it was exactly as presented. Much easier than the stupid design of the 2010 4-banger legacy I had where the filter was inside the donut hole of the exhaust manifold. P.S. I was able to get a traditional "band" oil filter wrench on the filter, worked great.
Hint. Leave the car running, chocked, and on the ramps until after you've checked topside and underneath for leaks. (There are two possible points of failure under the car based on the process you just performed, so play it safe and recheck them with the oil under pressure.) If no leaks, then back it down the ramps, shut it off, and check the level.
The Accord is still more fun to drive, but I can’t get over how great the Legacy drives, particularly in rainy or snowy conditions. I’d need to take a road trip in the Accord to evaluate comfort and fuel economy, but I recently took the Legacy on an 1850 mile road trip and comfort was excellent and at some points got over 30 MPG.
Use a Fumoto valve, it makes it a lot easier as far as draining the oil; however, the filter on the 3.6 will always be a little bit of a hassle on ramps because of the space limitation, especially if you have larger hands.
I usually let the dealer do oil changes in my 3.6 Outback simply to avoid the hassle of catching and disposing of the old oil. The price isn't bad compared to buying the parts and materials and doing the work myself, and I enjoy the dealer experience.
6.9qt. I always put in about 6.7 and check my dipstick after i level it. then keep adding till i get to the full mark on the dipstick. If it takes more than 6.9qt you are doing something wrong.
Overfilling will over pressurize the system and cause lots of problems you don't want. It says 6.9 quartz, and the dipstick is marked accordingly, so use 6.9 quarts. A smart process is to put in 6 quarts and a bit, button it up, and go through the pre-start and start procedure. Then shut it off and check the level on the dipstick. You'll need to add a bit, but adding oil is way easier than taking it out.
@@TheLazyCarrot If your dealer is just dumping in 7, he's not taking the time to let each drain fully into the pan, so in the end he's only getting 6.9 in there. And no doubt he's charging you for 7.
@@rangersmith4652 0.1 quart is not going to cause any issues. Hell, with the 2017 WRX it holds 5.4 quarts and people regularly do a 6 quart fill and there's no issues at all. No over pressurized system or foaming of the oil. There is a point where too much is too much and can cause damage but 0.1 quart is nothing and will not cause an issue.
You most have said... "I'll go ahead!" or "Let's go ahead!" or "We'll go ahead!" 27 times in this video! Even when you were backing off the ramps you said 'I'll GO AHEAD and back off!" I was quite confused with that one.
I have the 3.6R trim Outback and I LOVE this engine, its so smooth and strong. One of my favorite things about my Outback.

Pretty good tip - I just changed my oil today and was surprised how fast the oil came GUSHING out....nearly overflowed my drain pan.

Thanks for the video! It went super smooth on my 2018 legacy 3.6r.

If you have extra fresh oil I always pour some in after removing the plug and filter to wash out some old oil.

2:39 those are push clips, not fasteners.

Ok I saw the one front and back. All good.
Does the oil drain completely when the car is up on the ramps? Does the raised angle prevent complete Draining?
sump plugs on most vehicles are to the rear of the engine, so there's no harm using ramps...
The only part you skipped was the part I wanted to see. How to get the oil filter door off.
how often do you change your oil?? new to subaru. got a 2019 3.6r legacy.
12500 km or 8000 miles perhaps?
Hey I got the same legacy,
Do they all have that ticking while running?
I bought it used and was worried
Wtf dude !! Chocks go behind the back tires. Laughing my ass off. Hows it gonna roll forward. Lol
How do you like this car compared to the accord 2.0T?

what is the part number for the oem Subaru oil filter?

@@IRWAutomotive awesome... thank you
after watching this i realized i'll take it to the dealer

4:29 that's a washer, not a gasket. You really have your terms wrong lol. I'm guessing diy not mechanic>?
Does the legacy come with remote start?
No, but it's available as a dealer accessory
My 2015 3.6r came with remote start
Depends on the Trim I believe. My 2012 Ltd. came with one.
Sunnuhvuh!! My main interest was on removing the gravel guard and you skip this on the video! Applesauce!

Is it ok to just add the rest of the oil (8 qts) total?

My Subaru dealer just dumps in 7 quarts. It’s always at the top mark on the dip stick

Why 5/30 not a 5/20?
Александр Иванов The 3.6 is an older design and calls for 5w-30 oil. Sadly it has been dropped after 2019

That's a silly criticism of this helpful video.
