    I would LOVE to be able to cut intricate things like this but for the life of me I just can't with adhesive vinyl. Even with clean blade and on speed 1 it picks up the tiny pieces and places them all over, weeding is a nightmare cuz everything sticks or the parts I want to keep just don't stay down on the backing sheet. It's incridably frustrating. :(

      I was having this problem with oracle 651 and 751 adhesive vinyl. I fixed it by getting THE PAPER STUDIO brand permanent vinyl. Same settings (i have a cricut maker and my settings are vinyl with less pressure) and NO pieces lifted up .Weeds like a dream!! I will never use oracle for intricate cuts again.

    Which machine had more precise cuts? And which machine did you use to cut that teeny tiny pineapple ? I'm trying to decide which one to buy. I do dollhouse miniatures, so precision while doing very very small items is THE most important factor to me. Thank you!

    • @evelynwald9132
      @evelynwald9132 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont' believe that you can go wrong with either machine as each one can do a good job with vinyl. I just bought the Cricut Explore Air 2 and made my decision after watching a number of comparison videos on TH-cam. I formerly had a Silhoutte SD portrait. What I gave up with the Cameo was more flexibilty with creating my own custom designs. That being said, I have been learning Adobe Illustrator so that I can create my own custom svg files. Silhouette has a slightly higher learning curve, but if you are PC proficient, it shouldn't be that hard. That is one of my current frustrations with the Cricut, they have almost made it too easy, so I had to learn some new terms (like "attach" with the Cricut) when I wanted to keep my design fixed in a certain place on the cutting mat when I'm ready to cut it out and not let the Cricut decide what is the most efficient arrangement. Also, Cricut is web based meaning that you have to be online (although it seems that they have a solution for this), with a Silhouette it can be used offline. I also find it easier to save my files with the Silhouette on to my on desktop folders. However, I've also found Cricut support to be better than Silhouette in the limited time that I've had mine. One of the other things that I like about the Cricut is that the mat is sturdier and the machine itself seems to be less flimsy. Hope this helps you in your decision making process - it's not easy - I know!

    Again, THANK YOU for another nice video! You mention cutting pressure, but you don't say whether or not you recommend changing the pressure when cutting intricate designs out of vinyl. I've been experiencing issues with cutting on my Cricut and I've wasted a ton of materials, so any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrea, sorry for the delay in responding. The pressure is just the force that the blade take on the vinyl. If it is a thicker vinyl then you would want to increase the pressure. Otherwise, you wouldn't need to adjust the pressure setting.

    • @donnalongo1848

      I know this is over a year ago but every time my machine stops cutting correctly I put in a new blade, I only buy Amazon blades because I think cricuts blades are terrible. • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paulette! To keep large pieces of vinyl from slipping when not using a mat, I usually do one of two things. If using a roll of vinyl, I really like using the roll feeder made for the Cameo, it keeps the vinyl nice and lined up. If I am using just a longer sheet of vinyl (still 12" wide) I move my rollers in so that the one on the right hand side is at the 9" mark. This keeps the vinyl nice and secure while being cut so it continues going straight. Thank you for watching!

    • @Expressionsvinyls

      All machines have their limits, small letters are one of them. You can try to adjust you cut settings and thicken the font a little bit to see if that helps.

      I would NOT recommend the Cricut Maker. Mine has never cut properly and was returned from tech support still not working correctly.

    Hello I was wondering what the best pressure for expressions 31 vinyl was? I am having trouble cutting something about 1/2 inch. It keeps peeling up when weeding. Thank you I am using a circuit air 2.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The vinyl setting usually works. If you find that is cutting too deep you can try the paper + setting. 1/2" is pretty small. You may want to consider make your design bigger if possible.

  • @marymansfield4744
    @marymansfield4744 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just curious, what pressure setting do you use for cricut? I tried cutting with the factory setting for vinyl, but it didn't even cut the top surface of the vinyl. I finally switched to cardstock which of course cut all the way thru.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have had good success with the factory vinyl setting, however, each machine is different and your blade plays into it as well. If you do not have a nice sharp blade, you will be forced to use the "trial and error" method to find the best pressure setting. We recommend always doing a test cut before every project so that you aren't wasting any materials. Thank you for watching!

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It not recommend by Cricut but I have never had an issue. :) Just make sure you vinyl fits underneath the rollers when loading. I use the same setting as cricut recommends unless I have a brand new blade.

    Today I was trying to cut a very small font script from my Cricut and my glitter vinyl kept coming up while it was cutting. After two fail attempts I just changed the font and the font size. Very disappointing. Any advise?

      @princeradiorafanpage6783 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      usually I change the settings to pass over the font 2 or 3 times to ensure the vinyl is cut its makes the weeding process a bit easier

    With easy weed vinyl I have to set my dial between custom and paper. It always cuts through the paper backing if set on vinyl. How do I adjust this.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steve, which machine are you using? If it is cutting through you may want to check your blade and make sure there isn't anything interfering with it to cause it to cut deeper. Sometimes things can get up underneath it. Let us know, we'd be happy to assist.

    • @steveheim1067
      @steveheim1067 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Expressions Vinyl I have the Air 2. I guess I need to use a paper clip to see if anything has gotten down in the hole. I have removed the blade several times to make sure it's clear.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There could be an issue with the blade housing itself. You can get new ones through Cricut to see if that may help. It shouldn't be cutting that deep on the lower dial settings.

    So I have the cameo 3 and when I try to cut it pull up some of the smaller stuff. I have used the CB09 blade and the auto blade. What am I doing wrong

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try using a lower speed setting when you are cutting smaller images. This will help so that your smaller images don't lift.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jen, we'd be happy to assist. If you have the Cricut Explore, or Air then you would adjust the blade with the dial. If it is cutting too deep then just turn it down on the dial. If it isn't cutting enough, then turn the dial up to the next setting. Which machine do you have?

  • @chaewarehime8596
    @chaewarehime8596 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What vinyl would you recommend using with heat xfer small letters! I find that my cameo 3 will not cut small letters so I am stuck!

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, if you are wanting iron on vinyl for small letters then we recommend that you use Siser EasyWeed. Here is a link to it - expressionsvinyl.com/siser-heat-transfer-vinyl/easyweed/. If your machine is struggling with small letters you may want to try a new blade or make sure the blade you are using is clean. If they are older or not clean they have a tendency to pull letters a bit.

    How long does your vinyl last on projects?..

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the project and how much wear and tear it is getting. If it is a decoration in your house it will last indefinitely. If it is on a mug or something that is getting used and handled alot I would say a few months. The type of adhesive the vinyl has is also a factor. Choosing something with a permanent adhesive will last longer.

    Intricate but NOT tiny girl. Try weeding a 2 inch by 3.75 inch American flag. The little stars , are driving me insane. I dont know how people are weeding those stars out, and then selling the decal for $2 on eBay. Takes forever , and if one flips and sticks to the decal, it leaves adhesive. So once i have weeded and cleaned the decal, i have so much time invested , there is no way i could sell it for less than $5. I MUST BE DOING SOMETHING WRONG.

    What did you put the pineapple on? Plastic or Acrylic? Did you cut it with a Cricut?

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Jessica placed the pineapple on a small acrylic piece. This was cut on her Silhouette Cameo 3 but you could also use a Cricut to cut something similar. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

      Thank you for the reply. What thickness would acrylic have to be to be cut? My friend wants a beauty and the beast cut out to hang from her car mirror.
