Got a recommendation for staying within your budget. Keep the money separated, either in cash or on a prepaid debit card like you can buy at the store. Then if you go over, you have to actively pull money from somewhere else. And when you plan your budget give yourself a little wiggle room, like about $20 dollars that you don't put in the separated funds. That way you can cover the unexpected little bit without technically going over budget but still gives you a stopping point.
Sister Arts is not only a beautiful yarn shop, the owner, Donna is a very warm, kind person. Shout out to Sister Arts! So glad you got a chance to visit her shop. Your yarns choices are all beautiful! Looking forward to seeing your completed projects.
Honestly it's so refreshing to see a youtube creator who's as honest about money! I'm tired of influencers acting as if 120$ was nothing (even if it's just for show) when for most of us it's 1-2 weeks worth of groceries. Thank you for being so real!
PLEASEEEEEE, I’m mexican and the most expensive yarn is over $4, IT’S REALLY CHEAP IN HERE, you should visit my country and buy as many skeins as you want with a REALLY low budget
En donde compras?? 😢 La única tienda que conozco que vende mucha variedad y estambres no 100% plástico los vende igual de caros. Y en parisina hay buenos precios a veces pero muy poca variedad. 😢
If you’re ever in Chicago again you should go to the wasteshed! It’s a craft reuse place and sometimes they have higher end yarn as well my favorite lys in chicago is probably knit one but the woman who works at sister arts is always so sweet! I need to check out yarnify though… that discount yarn room looked nice
Yarnify is at the south end of the Loop- just south of Harrison on Plymouth Court (I forget which streets it is between but it is very near to the Harold Washington Library, Printer’s Row area). When I come into the city (from the northern suburbs) it’s where I stop and they do have some good deals in the clearance section. I’ve also been to Sister Arts Studio but only twice just because harder to get to and I have to make a special trip as I don’t have anything that takes me to Lincoln Park on the regular. Both shops have excellent selections and I know Yarnify tries to stock “local” vendors - for example the project bags are done by a local woman and often showcase fabric featuring the Chicago sports teams (which sellout fast). I’m interested in finding out more about the wasteshed- first time I’m hearing about it so going to google it. My son lives in the city so I can see if he’s heard anything. Appreciate the tip.
I have been to the one in Evanston, there are a TON of knit and Crochet accessories but I will say when I went the Yarn collection wasn't great but I am sure that changes depending on what people donate.
Don’t feel bad about going over budget. It’s so easy to do when traveling!!! You can’t put a price on spending time with friends and it looks like you had a wonderful time. Can’t wait to see what you make with the beautiful yarn you brought home. Thanks for sharing this experience with us ❤.
Thank you for the chciago vlog , I get homesick and it’s beautiful to see the city through someone else’s eyes. I can’t wait to check these shops out next time I’m back home.
I live in Chicago and never heard of those shops. Michael’s and Walmart are just too simple now Thanks for the vlog and inspiration keep doing what you do
Thanks for talking about Sister Arts! It's a great little shop and an opportunity to keep shopping local, the absolute antithesis of the big box stores. The owner is super helpful!
nina is also an awesome lys in chicago!!!! theyre always so sweet and willing to help there and have an awesome section for just sitting and working (or for storing your friends you dragged with you). they also have a great selection of non-animal fibers like cotton or hemp!!
Chicagoan here! I visited yarnify! for the first time a couple weeks ago and fell victim to the over budget too lol it's hard to stay the course when there's soooo much yarn there! Also our sales tax is ridiculous so I'm sure that didn't help either lol Blooming Spindle would've been a perfect LYS to go to because they are small and have so many unique indie dyed brands there. You would've easily found something you've never heard of.I hope you make a return visit to Chicago soon, and add Miss Purl's to your list! That's a black woman owned shop that has a nice variety of yarns in various price points as well as a welcoming community vibe.
I just wanted to say, you’re such a huge inspiration to me when it comes to crochet, I see you crochet and knit all these outfits and it’s so amazing. You’re extremely talented at working with yarn, and you’ve even pushed me to try out knitting. I love your channel and all your videos❤💕
Sister Arts is my favorite in Chicago! I was so excited you got to go there! Every year there is a Chicago Yarn Crawl, usually in late July-ish. There are some good deals, tho will require budgeting lol. Thanks for showing off Chicago yarn shops!
I've lived in Chicago for over 10 years and still forget EVERYTHING is closed on mondays. If you come back you should try and make it for the Chicago Yarn Crawl. All small shops, discounts and raffles, plus shops open on Mondays.
This video is amazing!! I am from Chicago but moved away a few years ago and this video made me homesick in the best way - so nice to see footage of summertime chi and some of my favorite yarn stores :) It’s so cool that you are knitting projects for your friends!
Loved that you visited Chicago! I live here and haven’t made to either of those stores yet! I am going to try to get to both during this years yarn crawl! TFS!
As always, I enjoyed your video! Loved the little Vlog style yarn, shopping trip! Don’t beat yourself up too much for going over budget! You will appreciate the yarn you purchased (PS, you are an awesome friend for helping your girls pick out yarn and offering to make them something!!)
Your other yarn shop vlog is the reason I managed to find a wonderful local shop near my house! Now I’m definitely going to check these shops out the next time I take a train into the city, thank you so much🫶
the yarn of the rope in sisters art studio is called lang cloud tweet yarn, langs cloud yarns are soooo fluffy, i adore them. lang in general has rly high quality yarn of all different kinds of fibers, highly refommend them!
I always find it so fun to watch people travel to Chicago after living in the suburbs my whole life. Definitely will have to check out these stores. Glad you loved the zoo! Its my favorite place to go in Chicago
I saw that ship listed in the Chicago Yarn crawl page. Been thinking of skipping out this year for personal budgetary reasons but would also love to see a new to me shop in the area. Seems like the crawl is much smaller and the city is losing LYS unfortunately so I’m happy to see a new (to me at least) one pop up.
The editing in this video is SO PRETTY and so cool!! 💕 I absolutely love all the scrapbooky details and fun transitions! It has so much personality! I'm sure editing takes so much time and work and I just wanna say that it's so good!!
I love the song choice for the ride to Chicago ❤ I have been loving that song for a few months and now it’s on replay at my house. Thank you for reminding me of it
I live near Chicago and JUST did a yarn crawl with my sister @ebknits I also love Sister Arts Studio!! Another one of my favorites was Bloomin’ Spindle, I definitely recommend that one!!
You should try Yarning for Ewe in the Atlanta/Cumberland area! It’s similar vibes to the first shop you went to, there’s huge variety of yarn and it’s POC woman owned! It’s my favorite place to buy yarn tbh
The yarns are sooo pretty, love the colors!! In my country there aren't yarn stores like that, it's so nice to see them, i love how u vlog and show everything!! Oh and that Jin cameo!! 💜💜
If you are ever back in chicago, there are some farmers who also sell yarn at the farmers markets! nothing too crazy ever, but really cool to know where your yarn comes from.
This is such a cool video! Im going to Chicago for the first time at the end of July and have been planning on visiting as many yarn shops as I can. Yarnify is one of the ones on my list! Seeing your video makes me even more excited to go!
This video makes me so excited to go yarn shopping on my next trip! I’m going in a few weeks and I have a whole list with projects I want to make with what fibres and in what colours. So I can look in the yarn stores if the yarn meets these requirements, because on my last trip I ended with all kinds of fun and beautiful yarn without a purpose, and a lot still unused😅
ahhh i definitely need to do that instead of just going in and wishing myself luck LOL having planned projects always makes the shopping trips more focused . have fun on yours! :)
I'm shocked because I just went to Chicago yesterday and came back today. I went to Yarnify. It has really unique yarns. Really wish I went early so I would have a chance to meet you
Please cone back to Chicago for the 2025 Yarn Crawl next July. During the crawl. Yarn is discounted by 10%, all stores have free patterns, and lots of prizes. I really enjoyed your video. I also love both of those stores.
Love this video, Chicago is a beautiful city. Unfortunately here in the rural northern territories of Canada, I'm quite limited to only Michaels like twice a year😂. However last summer I went to Minneapolis for vacation, the yarn stores were absolutely lovely.❤
Your videos are so fun to watch while crocheting I love your videos so much and I always look forward to watching them!!💗 Can you please make a marvel themed video pllllssss!💗💗
Thank you so much for this video! I live in Chicago and have been meaning to visit Sister Arts and Yarnify for AGES and thanks to you I'm gonna go to Yarnify tomorrow! There's another shop I recommend, but it would have been SUPER out of the way for y'all. It's called Cog Cycles and Yarn and it's a bike+yarn shop in one! I was able to get my bike worked on and buy some cute hand dyed yarn.
It is almost impossible for me to stay on budget when going to yarn shops like this. I have only gone to mosaic yarn shop in the Chicago area, but each time i spent almost 200. I am saving up more than that for the next local yarn store i go to, cuz it adds up fast and i always get fomo as soon as i walk in, and end up grabbing everything that gives me a little dopamine lol
Simplinatural by HiKoo is sooo soft. I got a pumpkin-ish color made with mulberry silk and wool. Gonna make a fall sweater with it, it's sooo nice :D expensive and harder to find color lots lol but sooo worth it

Agree 💯! Also, when searching for yarn shops find out their pricing to help set a more realistic budget.
that’s smart! i’m slowly getting better at budgeting and everything so i’ll def keep this in mind for not only yarn shopping but just life in general
You are so pretty!! I am excited to watch your videos
