    This video (and your channel) is such a breath of fresh air. Tons of games I've never heard of but look amazing. I saw your review of Vijayanagara and was so impressed by the quality and presentation of the video. I think I'm going to have a lot more games for my wish list, and more videos to absorb. (2 thumbs-up!)

      Ah, shucks... thanks for the kind words. The subscriber count is probably due to the fact that I haven't had a high volume of videos, I tend to focus on longer pieces that take longer to produce. I'm trying to mix it up this year, but still prefer quality over quantity. As you can see, I managed to fit in a lot of games last year, so I can't always be doing videos - a nice problem to have!       Thanks for the kind words and feedback! This was my first video where I rattle off a bunch of games, so yeah I didn't think to title all of them (thought that would take me a loooong time).     Just discovered your channel good to hear from someone with similar tastes. I struggle to get the same games played. Granada and Dual Powers flew under my radar thanks for mentioning them! Happy New Year! If drive down for Origins we play a game of Here I Stand / Virgin Queen.

    Great video! I won't go through your whole list but basically, I either own or have played most of the same games and I enjoy them as much as you do.       Hoboy... I set myself up for that. I wasn't planning on doing a video on FitL, I figured there's already lots out there, but since we're coming up on the 10 year anniversary of the game's release maybe it is a good time? I've been fascinated by the Vietnam War for a long time... probably worth an analysis...

    Thanks for the comments on Stationfall. That is weird, but awesome for narrative that i've quite enjoyed. Pax Transhumanity is my favorite. Strategy is not strait forward. Managing the end game regime is critical and usually critical to winning. But I do enjoy Pax Porfiriana. Viking, and Pamir also. I also enjoy making TTS modules for some of these.

      Welcome to the channel! I tend to cover and focus mostly on games that have to do with conflict and revolution, in some aspects the "ugly" side of history and how the stories are told through gaming narratives.
      This was a unique video as I did get to play a lot of different games this year, so I thought I'd speak briefly to each of them. Ultimately I think it is hard to separate the political from the "fun" of pretty much all of the games I talk about; they tend to be about economic systems, if not area control or even direct conflict, thus they exist in a world that is inherently political. Heck, even something as innocuous as "Bus" represents something political - I say this as someone that lives in a city where urban transit has been a hot topic for decades.
      It's been surprising to have so many views from new people, but I thought that might be the case so I decided it was appropriate to express my message of peace this holiday season. I do not believe that wishing peace and a ceasefire, as thousands of innocent civilians are being murdered, ignorant. If anything, ignoring their plight and suffering in the face of colonial settler violence is far, far worse.
      And I regret not saying it on-camera with more conviction and feeling.
      So let me say it again, in writing : FREE PALESTINE

      I have enjoyed your channel, Joe: I like the topics you raise, the board games you highlight, and I tend to sympathize with your perspective on many issues, particularly on the convergence of social and historical issues as represented in board games. Your contributions are valuable. But I do believe that on this matter, you do appear rather uninformed-and I say that from a socialist, internationalist and feminist perspective. Reducing your thoughtful perspectives to cheap slogans, such as "Free Palestine", or your support for the BDS movement, and for a "liberation" of Palestine, "from the river to the sea" is dangerously deceptive (with an emphasis on both dangerous and deceptive).
      To me, your comments here does not signal courage, but ignorance. (After October 7th, they certainly does not come across as messages of peace.)
      Of course, there is no room in a YT comment to properly elaborate on why I think you are wrong in these matters, or to dissect every problematic sentence in your reply above, nor do I want to soil your thread here (I really don't). Furthermore, although I have a hard time understanding why you want to cheapen your analyses to sloganeering, it is your call. You are in your full right to profile and promote your channel as you like. I think, however, that the original poster had a point here (and perhaps I got some of the same "huh, is this all propaganda?-vibe" that I sense provoked his reaction). I am aware that politics, conflict and cooperation affect everything we do and how our lives are organized. There are room to engage with ideas, values and topics. I don't mind disagreeing with you, even in issues that I am most passionate about. If you discuss the Israel-Palestine conflict, fine; if you discuss public transportation, fine, if you discuss women's rights, fine. But here? In this way? It puzzles me. To be honest, it seemed so blatantly out of place that, to me, it puts all your other well-thought out videos in a different light. I can't help it.
      I wish you well in your efforts to build your channel, Joe. I just had to explain why I am not prone to follow you anymore.

      @@eirikhasvik5438 One of the goals of this channel, as stated in previous videos, is to explore history through games to understand how we got to where we are in the world today. I believe tabletop games, when given the right treatment, should be viewed in the same light as books, movies and other media that tells the stories of the past. So you can expect some intersection between the real, the political, and my discussion of games.
      In short: my channel, my messages.
      Anyone that wants to point at the horrific events of October 7th, 2023, without contextualizing those events amidst the decades of colonial imperial oppression against Palestinians that preceded, or the genocidal state violence that followed, can kindly move on.
      A parting message to you, and anyone else that feels the need to move on: FREE PALESTINE.

      My problem is not that you bring up political issues, nor that you have political opinions. I do too. Indeed, the fact that you do have some more or less explicit political lenses through which you analyze board game mechanics, design and aesthetics are the reasons I got attracted to your channel in the first place. I just thought you’d be interested in lifting these conflicts, to use them to discuss the broader historical and political issues. Of course I know I «can expect some intersection between the real, the political, and my discussion of games.» That is not a problem, as I clearly spelled out in my last post. My problem is that your recent sloganeering seems to undermine that very purpose.
      Why you need to repeat: «In short: my channel, my messages» escapes me. Indeed, as I mentioned, that was precisely what I wrote in my last post. I just wanted to provide some explanation to why I-and Collin, I assume-was disappointed in your recent take, where political analyses are reduced to cheap out-of-place slogans. After making so much effort to build up your channel, I cannot understand why do you want to jettison it all with this new take. Of course, «Free Palestine» may not be more offensive than «All power to the soviets», «End patriarchy» or «Smash the state» (positions I can sympathize with). To me, however, sloganeering just seems to undermine the serious channel profile you are building.
      As for the conflict in the Middle East: Yes, we disagree. But that is not the point here.
      Of course, how anyone see the need to excuse rapes, brutalizations, torture, and targeted murdering of civilians, as happened on October 7, is something I probably will never understand. But I would be ready for an argument, particularly on the possible meanings of «free Palestine» and Zionism; or imperialism, colonialism and nationalism; or possibly other relevant concepts, like co-existence, normalization, tolerance and inclusion. If you ever come to Norway, Joe, get in touch and I’ll buy you a beer or two and we can properly discuss these issues.
      However, if you want viewers like me to simply move on because we point out the seemingly dissonance with how we have understood the mission of this channel-as has been developed over the last year and a half-then why do you have this channel in the first place? Who is your target audience? What do you want your viewers to expect from you? It cannot simply be «some intersection between the real, the political, and my discussion of games» because that was precisely what I came for in the first place.
