Thank you for sharing your reinvention! Still a Registered Nurse today, I had my “ah ha” epiphany at 4 am on the way in to cover a shift for nursing. It was that I would write my resignation and retire in March. The following school year I did some substitute teaching and loved it! My principal at the High School offered me a full time position. Having obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree at age 55 qualified me to teach Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Medicine and Health Science. At age 63 I started my second career after the loss of my husband. You and I have shared the heartbreak together, grieved and started our jump back into the dating pool! I couldn’t be happier with my next chapter! You’ve helped me so much. I’ve been following you since November 2020

I’m a teacher and it isn’t what it used to be. A lot of work is done on the computer and they change programs every year. It gets a bit exhausting going to all the trainings. Many of my friends have retired earlier than they wanted to because they were tired of the trainings.

You are an inspiration! I was blindsided by a divorce in my late thirties and after being home with kids for a few years, I had to figure out how to earn a living. I discovered my dream job in my forties and had not known it existed prior to that time. Fast forward: I'm now age 57 and run my own company doing work that is deeply meaningful to me. I love your upbeat attitude and chic style. Thank you!

I embrace my music and feel that actively working on it, keeps my mind sharp. I have been a church musician for 62 1/2 years now, for 6 local churches, plus just 7 years ago, I started playing the baby grand at a local rustic resort every Saturday night. Finding new music and working on it has been a lifetime passion. Thank God, I have been really healthy all these years and so far, no arthritis in my hands. I have friends my age who were into ballet and tap, and I was so jealous of them. Fast forward to my current age, and my friend's passion for dancing stopped 40 years ago...while mine continues. It's what gets me out of bed in the morning and sometimes keeps me busy late at night. I have no regrets with my life, at this point!

You are indeed busting the myth that MIL = Monster-in-law! And what an important message you bring to us today. I have to admit that I was well into my adult years before I realized that I had to live my OWN life, not the life that someone else wanted me to live. (That’s tough when it’s a family member who has those opinions.) And never too old? Absolutely! I took early retirement 11 years ago, since when I went back to university (part-time over 8 years or so) and graduated with a degree in archaeology. Completely different from my previous career, and the fulfillment of a life-long dream to engage in something that has fascinated me since childhood.

I’m 69 now. When I was approaching 50, I was terrified. I cried for weeks in the run up to my birthday. I have no idea why it affected me this way. I enjoy being older now (apart from the ageing body part). I dress how I want, sometimes way outside the box. More importantly I have learned the importance of patience and thinking before I open my mouth.

When I turned 50 I did something similar. My poor husband and kids! Hahah! But it took me several years and the ear and advice of a great friend to stop worrying about being 50 and embrace a new chapter. It took me a while but I got there! Now I’m proud of my age 65 and who I am. I still sometimes feel old and get down but I pull myself back up! Thanks to my wonderful family who were always available-husband and two daughters to pump me back up!!

Thank you for this positive video. I’ve played the piano since childhood, now retired after 40+ years in the business world; loving that I now have more time to play and study , learning new pieces for the sheer joy and challenge of it. People tell they wish they had kept playing ; I tell them it’s never too late to start again. I was recently turned down for a part-time accompanist job I was more than qualified for, I suspect because of my age. Their loss, says my healthy, happy 60+ year old self! Something better will come along.

@@BethDjalali This also means after 25 years in Alaska, I will be leaving the State. I have a lot happening this summer. There's much to be done in order for me to drive out before the pass freezes in September. If the dominoes don't fall just right, I'll be stuck until next Spring. It's an exciting but scary time for me. I have to live off my savings for 3 months until my benefits are processed, and I have an unexpected surgery at the end of April that may but a damper in every thing. I traveled extensively to about 15 different countries. Two years ago I bought a house and am currently remodeling it to what I want it to be. Luckily I can retire in a few years and I don’t think I’ll have a problem wjth trying new things to keep me busy. Great speech! All what you say is true.

Thank you so much for this great video. I love all of your videos, but this one with the great message is the best one yet. I'm going back to teach French once a week. Maybe now I'll teach more! I take ballroom dance and am starting a new ballet class at age 65! Maybe I'll start learning Italian? Thank you so much again for this wonderful message that inspires us! ❤️

I'm certain that it was interesting for you to live in far-flung places. How about videos on fashion that's popular with the native populations of the countries in which you lived.
I've re-invented myself so many times that I've lost count. My greatest motivation is and always has been BOREDOM. I started as an academic at Princeton (still am the youngest PH.D. in Comparative Literature @ NYU) but after mastering teaching & publishing, I went to work on Wall Street with my portable skills. I hit the ground running, became a marketing/PR executive, & I also taught marketing to investment bankers. Then I got bored, took a pay cut to work in City government. That was an eye opener, and yes I taught there too & wrote reports on audits for public/media consumption. Then my sister asked me to be her theatrical producing partner (she's a playwright). Since I have the clothes (I've always been a fashion plate), I agreed. I was also wooed by a prestigious think tank for whom I consulted. At the end of 2021 -- during the pandemic -- I was stuck indoors without going to the gym, movie tributes at MoMA & other venues, or to museums, operas/theatre/ballet/lectures/galleries -- I decided to subscribe to a streaming service with only foreign programs (I'm fluent in 7 languages). My posts have not only brought me recognition from major media outlets but enormous popularity with the subscribers & a contract as a blogger & cultural historian. At 72, I'm not ready to retire; those who meet me can't believe my age. I lost my dear husband when he was 42 & I was almost 52 after 5 yrs. of marriage. I think about him daily -- we were soulmates. I socialize constantly but haven't found someone I want to date yet. Who knows what tomorrow will bring!!
