    I have just almost finished my beginner level wheel throwing class and I have learned so much more from you than my teacher. :) I switched over to using your finger placements and it has worked real well for me. The studio I have been going to also uses a reduction kiln so it was neat to see yours in action. My first 8 pieces have just come out and the glaze looks nice. My only complaint was that I placed it on too thin because they made me so paranoid about the $50 charge for an item sticking to the kiln shelf. My colors were just not as bright as I would have preferred. I do like the iron spots and such that the reduction firing seems to bring out. Thanks for your vids! I appreciate you.

I've commented this so many times before, yet with every video I learn more, bettering myself as a potter and an artist. So thank you for your obvious hard work, just know that it has paid off in the influence it has given to another potter looking to make this his career.

    Nice prepared and explained as always. Yes, I was here until the end 😊
    Is there a particular reason why you never (except for bowls) make round shapes? Or is it just personal preference?
    I really like your clean lines and straight walls, but when I make pots they are never straight, always curved even my mugs are goings outwards on the top. I tried straight-walled mugs. I like looking at yours, but I don‘t like using mine, it‘s just not my „Cup of tea“
    Have the gas prices affected the UK as much as Europe’s Center?

    • @floriangadsby
      @floriangadsby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! Well, I suppose it's just my style, personal preference, simple as that. As a potter/maker it helps carving out a style that's recognisable as yours and that is a tremendously hard task as there's such a vast variety of styles and shapes one could choose to make. So, I set limitations for my shapes and it does to some degree help make my range/style more recognisable, I think. Everyone has their own 'cup of tea' and that's what makes the world of ceramics so interesting, variety is the spice of life.
      As for gas prices - yes, it's going to be hard but thankfully my income from TH-cam does help cover costs to some degree, I just hope it settles back eventually...

    another fantastic video which manages to balance information and aesthetic satisfaction so well. I'd be interested to know more on the economics of being a potter, have current events affected your work, for example if gas is becoming more expensive, do you rethink what forms you want to fire based on the financial return?

    FYI - Warning to all. I received a notification that I won a collection of Florian's pieces here in the comments. They asked me to pay $50 shipping. I assumed it was a scam, so please be careful. Something that comes across as too good, is usually too good to be true. :)

    • @floriangadsby
      @floriangadsby  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is indeed a scam! I’ve blocked that user and deleted the comments. I will NEVER do a competition where I ask you to pay anything, and any giveaway I do will always be accompanied by a post on Instagram or a video here. Sorry this happened though and I hope no one fell for the scammers ploy - it’s crazy the lengths people will go to in order to scam people…

    This jar form is intriguing. I wonder what it would look like if the angle at the top of the jar could be matched by an opposite angle on the lid. Idk, but it would be an interesting thing to try someday.

    As always, so inspiring and watched until the end. I’ve been learning the wheel for the past 6 months and find turning and trimming so satisfying. Thank you for the detailed videos. They have been the best learning source - recycling and wedging in particular. I love that working with clay is not a wasteful pursuit; so much better for the environment and our waste-inducing society.
    I’d like more on making glazes please (although I’m not really at that stage yet but find the chemistry interesting 😊).
