Italy is actually one of the easier countries to get citizenship if you have an Italian ancestor.
The paperwork for renovation is said to take forever and can have lots of red tape.

I think you should live there one year round before making any long term decision. You have fallen in love with the the view and the idea of permanent home in that beautiful environment, but the reality will soon strike in as will the winter too. Think it through. Yes, the property is charming but will you love it after, maybe five years of hard work and discomfort. You might do that, who knows?

    • @marie-evepitre9294

I was thinking the same. I travelled a lot and felt in love with so many places and seriously thought about moving there. Though you never really know what you get yourself into before living somewhere. I moved to Germany and I much as I like it at the beginning, I realized after a year it is not for me.

Good advice . All I could think of was wintertime. How will anyone get up there? What kind of winter service is there? In Austria many small roads have no winter service. I imagine same in the mountains of Italy. Long term, how will you heat? That's a lovely fireplace and reminds me of one I saw in a house in Sicily except there was no damper to close it off. I think that would have been my biggest concern, access. My second would be snowfall and run off from the hillsides above the house. You are so enthusiastic and in accord I wish all the best. My 8 years in Sicily were some of the best.

Don't forget to look into the school system there. In most European Union countries it's obligatory to have your kids go to school. I believe that in Italy it is possible to do homeschooling but you have to prove that you can properly home school your kids. Where I live in the Netherlands for example homeschooling is not allowed. Do look into that before living there with kids! But it does sound like an adventure so I would say if nothing is stopping you go for it!

I spent a couple of months traveling throughout Itay and soaking up the art and landscape. I had only seen the master works of art in pictures. And the scale, vibrancy and ethereal quality of the cathedral/museum paintings and sculpture cannot be replicated. The landscape is supernaturally beautiful and the people are an eclectic mix of amazing colors. Italians have the most brilliant sense of style and you can sit for hours in the public square, admiring people dressed in the type of couture, which is almost exclusively reserved for the runway. Watching goofy socialites try to look dainty, wobbling over the hundreds of years old cobblestones, in 5 inch heels can be thoroughly entertantertaining as well. I was a bit overwhelmed by the fashion district so found the local flea markets selling magnificent handmade treasures at nice prices.
Oh my goodness, I'm thinking I want to move now too. I better stop.

I don't know what I am doing either, but I think things through and use common sense.
What I would attempt to do with moisture along the back wall would be to keep water from draining from down the hill and also rain water coming off the roof. If you are going to do rain water harvesting that is where I would start, I know it is a pain, but maybe your geometra can come up with something simple.
That space between the back of the house and the hillside is probably really cool in the summer too. You were mentioning how hot it is in the summer so too bad it can't be made into useable space.
Also for heat, I know wood is great but it can be daunting just how much work it is and you don't even have what I call a "stove" or woodburning stove- something where you can heat water, and they retain heat too. Also have you cleaned your flu and cap? That is what gets clogged with kreosote from burning pine. So whatever you decide to burn you often have to be cinderella and not only remove ashes but climb on roof and check to make sure the crown/cap isn't clogged and air is flowing through it and smoke is going up and out.

Will certainly be an interesting project. If I was you I would come back and spend a few weeks there in winter to see what it will be like. Also whatever you expect to spend triple it and it is likely to be that at least. But if you want to do it go for it.

    Hi, liking the show.
Stella is adorable. You showed where she’ll be for winter, the little shed? You’ll weather proof it? There’s no insulation and small.
    Have fun remodeling

This is so exciting! What a great new adventure you all are on. Thank you for sharing your lovely family fun with all of us.
One of the questions that occurred to me after watching your potential new house (!!!) video was that, if I were in your position, I would ask more knowledgeable people: (1) Where does this home's energy come from? (2) How much energy is from trade between Russia and Italy? (3) If it is a large percentage of Russia energy in Italian homes and businesses and government facilities, I might wonder about the current relationship status between Russia and Italy. I would look at newspapers from the United States and perhaps some well-known Italian newspapers that have been translated into English (which I believe is common with online articles). (4) Or maybe you could ask the hosts and your other recent community contacts about their thoughts on energy supplies in the region and thoughts about this coming winter.
I wish you all the best on this grand new adventure. Your family's reasoned, thoughtful, democratic spontaneity is contagious.

This might be too personal, but would you be willing to share price ranges for a property like this, and how much the architect thinks it would cost to bring it up to code? We have also dreamed of doing a similar project

It’s a big decision to buy an old house and renovate it in the old world and Mediterranean countries because of the nature of the culture and the process that can be complicated sometimes… but well done 👍🏼 you made it

Ha Ha as I said on your last vidio I knew you were going to buy there from your insticts that you were giving, as I done similar 3 times now. Only thing to remember is the winter and snow requirements of access in and out , good luck with it :)

Hi guys do it. As long as you do your homework first cost plus expenses of renovating which will be more than your original estimate for sure. As long as you get all your ducks in a roe. All the best.

Congratulations on the selection. As a non Italian, I dreamt about living in that area at least during summer spring and summer. Where is the house actually located? Nearby Bellagio, Other side of the lake? Menaggio, Lenno? Further up north Lake Como? Way to Lugano? Love the whole area but curious about the choice you made.

i thought it was some side of Romania, but then seen that there is too much stone, and a car on some house there 1:02 , and just told myself sure is some other country.
Italy is nice, wonder how you would renovate that to make it functional, because is full of stones, and idk if the country legislation there, leaves people to modify the walls of old houses, but maybe i am mistaken. I just want to see how it will look at the end, looks like a nice area there, and doesn't look at all boring or unpopulated, as it happens to some villages in some other countries.

I wonder how much you pay for it, you must take there a water system, electricity somehow {wheter is clean energy, satelite television}.
There are hundreds of zones you could move in, but now depends on your needs and costs, and how you plan to survive if there you need to work?

Just curious. Where exactly is your home? We have a house overlooking Lake Como in the small village of Fordeccia. "Epoch Times" article mentioned "Limbadia" but that is in Calabria.
Could not find a "Limbadia" around Lake Como.
    Thank you .

i started to watch your channel for about 2 weeks, and enjoy it a lot. You are giving your daughters the kind of life, knowledge, and experience that no school or university would ever teach them. my husband and i are planning to move to italy as soon as my son finishes high school (in two years) i also have a daughter that just turned 18, but unfortunately they wont be coming with us, they are just to use to living in the united states (southern california) we started to travel to italy this year and we are trying to decide where to buy a house. Do you mind telling us how much did you pay for your beautiful house? thanks a lot!

WOW just watched your video, how exciting, You have enormous decisions ahead to buy/stay/keep travelling but whatever you both do will be what you WANT , remember this is your lives (and your children) and whatever you decide you will all be together and that's the most important thing. Good luck and may you make the right informed choice, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.😉

I've built, restored or renovated 12...and now onto 13 homes, in 3 different countries including Italy and although I feel your passion and see your enthusiasm, I would be concerned about the access to the house, during the winter in particular, especially with a young family. That road is narrow and would be quite treacherous in the snow. Also access for deliveries would be almost non-existent. Most delivery services will not attempt a road like that. Also is it already connected to power and water? That's a huge thing, depending how far the closest access is. You may need to be totally off grid. I'd look into everything very closely before getting too emotionally attached. Projects are awesome, I agree but accessibility is crucial. Best of wishes with anything you chose to do! 🤗
