Think biking should be allowed most of the way as there are actually signs for bikers for “bike friendly” options around the technical sections. The only part you need to avoid (by re-routing along the suggested bike trail) is the Patvinsuo National Park in the southern end. Just discovered we're talking about a different bears trail. :) I was thinking of karhunkierros (might be a bit to rough to bike as well, don't know). Confusing if you don't speak finnish. :) But this also looks very good! I'll be doing a long tour from the Netherlands, so will keep my eyes and ears open for nice routes.
Had my food on the bike outside through the nights. Everything was packed in sealed plastic to avoid smells that might tempt the animals as I kinda wanted to eat it all myself 🙂
The rumour has it that this is one of the most probable areas in Finland to see a bear. Having said that, most people don’t get to see any (I didn’t either) as bears tend to really do their best to avoid people. I’ve roamed Finnish forests all my life and I’ve never seen one. They do exist out there as every now and then there are footprints on the ground. I was a bit nervous of bears before my trip to Bear’s Trail as well, but once there, the beauty of nature took over and I pretty much forgot all about them (until coming across the footprints on my last day) 🙂
