Well I received my viper last week and the build was one of the easiest ever. This Viper is sweet! I did my maiden flights this past Saturday. I use an NX8 with 50c 2200 4s smart battery, Wheels on. The Viper tracked straight down the runway and lifted off in about 10ft. All I can say is SMOOTH, VERY SMOOTH. Flight 3, wheels off was amazing. A flying buddy did the hand launch as I throttled up past 70% he let her go with barely a toss and the launch assist preformed as advertised! .A NICE steady climb out and off I go. I really enjoyed the way this viper fly's. Very easy take off and very easy to land. GET YOUR HANDS ON ONE!
You bet! This plane is really good! They're getting so good, if I could just avoid hitting 65 foot tall trees, we'd have nothing to complain about - LOL ;)
Buying this using your link. Love your content and your transparency. Everything isn’t “the best” with you and that’s a green flag when watching reviews!
The radio setup was beyond more complicated than it should have been. All you had to do was download the settings from the transmitter and go fly. We know that you know what all the settings do, you didn't have to show us all for an hour. You made it more intimidating than it really is. - Cole Trickle
Hi Brian, Great videos! I had the same issue with the esc. I got the esc programmer and all good. Took mine out today! Wow! It’s quick. I’m a first runner of edf and this thing flew terrific. I had to keep it in safe just to get used to it. Packed it in early due to wind . For a first time edf guy, hard to land if you’re not used to it . I don’t think this should be a first EDF , but I’m in it now!
I could not, set up thrust reverse on my viper with my NX10 I had to use the programmer. I wonder if there are any other avian esc like this all my other eflight planes with avian esc I could do on my transmitter. Thanks for your help on this. Tom M
If you have an NX8, you have spoken flight modes. If you don't have it, update your firmware ASAP, as you're probably WAAAAAY behind. The new stuff available is HUGE...like 20 Channels HUGE...rather than 8 only...plus AS3X+ which is WAY better too, but won't work on the old planes in your memory, just the new ones you get, or ones you remake.
Thanks! We do share our real experiences, and answer to you guys - not the companies. That being said, Eflite did a great job with this plane, and it's really been great fun, and we really enjoyed it...until the tree caught my landing - LOL LOL LOL ;)
Maidened mine today and it is awesome 👍🏻 I found the problem accessing the Avian ESC must be related to the BNF firmware file on the receiver. After reflashing the firmware on the receiver to access all the hidden features I could then access the Avian ESC as normal through the transmitter
@ it’s done using the Spektrum programmer PC software and the SPMA3065 USB interface cable. It’s easy to do and there’s plenty of information on TH-cam but you will have to set up your receiver as a new model (just the receiver, not your radio model settings)
@BrianPhillipsRC EDFhobbies, they're out of business now I think. Built it maybe 8-years ago. Runs 12S power and she's a big beast. Very nice bird, no bad habits. I still have it, Now it has a FrSky Tandem RX, since i recently switched from Spektrum (JR 12X) to FrSky (X20S). Maiden flight of the big yellow T28 is an hour away. God dammit, it's really hot today! th-cam.com/video/IX2HslHAn64/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jdSTURB1ezF5wZjm
will a 30c 4s battery work in the viper 64mm. it says to use 50c. and the guy at horizon said 30c doesn't have enough punch. But I'm asking you because you fly often. thanks
They might be substantially different (lights/flaps/rudder), but where does this sit as a belly lander compared to the Arrows 50mm for you? Can you get the true Viper experience from the Arrows, or is this a better pick?
This is Twice the plane as the Arrows 50mm, quite literally...it's about 2X the size, and all other features. You took away the most prominent in your list, but even those LEFT out, the planes are just different sized. I LOVE THEM BOTH, but not a fair comparison. bprc.me/Viper - Horizon bprc.me/FMS_Viper - FMS bprc.me/Arrows_Viper - Arrows
I'd stay with smaller 2200mAh, since it's not a huge plane...if you need the extra flight time, go for 3200mAh - that being said, if your 2200mAh 4S is beat to heck and old, puffed and been through a bunch of crashes, you might want to start fresh for this or any edf jet...they tend to chew these packs and spit them out. Get as high a C rating as you can afford (or are willing to afford)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I didn't even know you can change the bank limits on a BNF. In forward prog, you can change the settings to the installed SAFE technology? thanks
You can help if you want. Just send the time stamps over. We have 2000+ videos...get one for us, and we'll see how it works. I know the comment will get flagged, but we'll get it in the "Held for Review" when you send it back. Thanks!
Hey Brian, great setup video. Did you ever figure out getting into avian programing to set up reverse thrust, I have done it on other planes, but I cannot get into it on my 64viper, 100% everything, safe off, watched tons of videos, trouble shooting, nothing, any suggestions, thanks for keeping it real, good honest reviews!!
Hi guys, awesome content as usual and awesome camera skillz from the camera crew 👍🏻 just wondering if you found a solution to the Avian menu through the Tx? I’m having the same problem accessing it which is the only plane I’ve had an issue with. Seems strange so many people seem unable to access the Avian menu just with the Viper 64. Anyway I’ve had to order the programming tool but looking forward to it’s maiden flight 😃 Also is hand launch assist active by default on the BNF version? Keep up the great work
Hello sir , would you do a video of how to use the new combo switches / Logic switches/ with mixes .. After upgrading my NX 10 I can’t make heads or tails out of how to use and / or when . Thanks for all you do for this hobby . I’m getting back into it after 10 years of being idle , new tech blows my mind .

I always open up the Pitch and Roll Limits in Forward Programming.

No, it's probably a step or two past the Habu, if you ask my opinion.
