- Oconee Hill Cemetery is another one of my favorite Georgia cemeteries. I was gifted a book by my Aunt and Uncle of the history of the cemetery, and all the obituaries of the people buried in the old section of the cemetery.
This this video, I walk around the cemetery and share some of the history from the book, and find monuments that I find beautiful or interesting, and share about them from the book.
If you're ever in Athens, GA, be sure and check this place out! I barely scratched the surface on the history of this cemetery, and there are lots of stories to be told!
I Love this!! Live in Athens & Love visiting it. This is where I’m wanting to be buried. In J section there lies Ian near a tree full of wind chimes. Ian was a 15-16 yr old that was a friend of son & daughter that tragically died from alcohol use with the wrong friends!! Anyways, I usually go there❤🙏🏻🕊🙏🏻❤️

Found my picture history book of Athens. Bridge in Oconee Hill Cemetery was built in 1899 to connect the original 17 acres to the 90 acres over the river!!

I need that book too!! Where can I get it? Just subscribed!! I think the cannon might be near the UGA bell which I think is near the UGA Arc!! Thinking when going thru arc, take a right before building then a left at back of same building and that should be the Bell Tower on left.
Amazon has 'em! Just google "Oconee Hill Cemetery Volume 1", and you'll find places selling them. I'm sure some book stores or history museums in Athens will have copies as well.
The double barrel cannon is on the NE side of the block the courthouse is on.

The Covington and (probably) Athens, GA library have a copy you can read but not check out.
Amazon currently has a copy for sale.
Just google “Oconee Hill Cemetery Volume 1” to find it. I always take the dust cover off my hardcover books so the photos may look a lil different.
