EP 16: Albany Rural Cemetery - Albany County, NY
Comin' to ya in HD! I swear I thought I was filmin' in 4K but what can ya do. I filmed this on my iPhone, but I wasn't about to miss an opportunity to shoot a video while way up in fancy New York!
This is Albany Rural Cemetery in Albany, New York! Another beautiful day in the life!

In this episode, I visited Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio! It is home to the Dexter Mausoleum which is the opening/ending title shot for all my videos! UNFORTUNATELY!!!! But, sorta fortunately in a longevity sense? There was scaffolding and all sorts of people poking around the mausoleum doing repairs T.T So, I've got a damn good reason to go back and make another video one day! Unti...

Another beautiful day in the life! This time I'm in fancy ol' Commonwealth of Massachusetts! I got a free ride to Harvard, and popped over to that fancy rural cemetery all us taphophiles hear all about! It's been a minute since I made a video, and I was a bit out of practice on this one. Some of the shots aren't all I was hoping and dreaming for, and some of the shots wanted to act up on me. Bu...
EP 13: Historic Madison Cemeteries - Morgan County, GA
มุมมอง 1115 หลายเดือนก่อน
Took a trip down in to Madison, GA. Where chicks don't get their nails dirty, and dude's culinary exploration begins & ends with a chicken nugget. As I reflect writing this with the video uploading, I could prolly redo this whole thing after spending some time in the library. I'm sure there are books on these cemeteries, and I could find endless info on specific burials with interesting stories...

Savannah, Georgia is home to some AMAZING Georgia history. But first and foremost, it is home to Laurel Grove & Bonaventure Cemetery. They are on my list of "must see" cemeteries in Georgia. Both rank in my "Top 10" list for Georgia cemeteries. I did ZERO research in this video!!!! If I got stuff wrong, I cannot stress enough that I have zero desire to speak with any historical authority on any...
EP 11: Mayhayley Lancaster - Heard County, GA
มุมมอง 5578 หลายเดือนก่อน
This weekend, I visited the Oracle of the Ages: Amanda Mayhayley Lancaster. She was a psychic/mystic/fortune teller in the first half of the 20th century. I crossed the great state of Georgia to Heard County where she lived and was laid to rest. I read the biography of her "Oracle of the Ages" by Dot Moore, and I cannot recommend that book enough! She was very much a beloved character in her co...
EP 10: Oxford Cemetery - Newton County, GA
มุมมอง 1999 หลายเดือนก่อน
Today, I explored Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Georgia. Oxford is home to Emory College which was a school that was founded in the early 1830s by the Methodist movement. The cemetery is the "Westminster Abbey" of Methodism. I really enjoyed doing research on this cemetery. One of the greatest challenges I came across was inconsistencies in the history books. Mix that with having no desire to be *...
EP 9: My Favorite Home Cemeteries - Walton County, GA
มุมมอง 46010 หลายเดือนก่อน
This Christmas break, I travelled around my home county of Walton County, and filmed some of my favorite cemeteries! Walton County has two cemetery books that I referenced, as well as the history book Wayfarers In Walton. What do you think about all those settlers "killed by bee stings"? Can you help me visit Mr. Pike if I promise no photo/videos? Can you find that German guy headstone at Rest ...

Located in one of Georgia's old capital - Milledgeville - is Memory Hill Cemetery. Founded in the early 1800s not long after Georgia expanded it's border to the Ocmulgee River, Memory Hill Cemetery is a beautiful 19th century graveyard with *tons* of history. I actually did research this time!!! I went to the library where I looked through a book on Memory Hill Cemetery. I had to *go to* the li...

Rose Hill Cemetery!! This is one of the top 5 must-see cemeteries in Georgia in my opinion! Now-a-days, it's famous for The Allman Brothers who are buried in the cemetery. There are multiple monuments within the cemetery they wrote songs about/for. But, beyond them, there is a rich history, spectacular monuments, and plenty more to see! If you're ever driving up or down I-75 through the middle ...

On Thanksgiving, I visited Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Floyd County, Georgia. In my opinion, it's one of the top 5-10 must-see cemeteries in Georgia. If you're ever in Northwest Georgia, be sure and stop by for a visit. But remember, you gotta go straight to the top of the hill first thing! At then end of this video, I stopped by Budapest Cemetery in Haralson County, GA. It was home to wine makers ...

R.I.P. my sweet baby doodle bear pants nugget Jezebelle. You were the best dog a man could ask for, you showed me how to love cemeteries by taking me to this cemetery every day, and I am forever grateful for you. Stay tuned til the end to see a couple videos of her. Aannyywho, wipe away the tears, it's Decatur Cemetery! Check it out, y'all! It's the oldest public burial grounds in the Atlanta a...

Oconee Hill Cemetery is another one of my favorite Georgia cemeteries. I was gifted a book by my Aunt and Uncle of the history of the cemetery, and all the obituaries of the people buried in the old section of the cemetery. This this video, I walk around the cemetery and share some of the history from the book, and find monuments that I find beautiful or interesting, and share about them from t...
EP 3: Oakland Cemetery - Fulton County, GA

Oakland Cemetery! One of the more popular cemeteries in Atlanta. I've been a volunteer at Oakland Cemetery for almost a decade, and it is a special place for me. I used to look out over the cemetery from the MARTA train on the way to Georgia State. I've been around the cemetery long enough to know some of the more popular stops, and in the video I briefly show some of them, as well as some of m...

No, not *that* Arlington... Just outside the perimeter, on the North side of Atlanta in Sandy Springs is Arlington Memorial Park. This is a very active cemetery with loads of new monuments being installed. Already there are multiple *beautiful* monuments. I chose this place as my second video because of all the monuments. While I don't mention anything particularly historical of note in the cem...

love the cemetery videos. if you get back to Macon Ga look me up. I'll show you around the cementers here.
I wish I’d included the older Macon cemetery in the rose hill video, but that just gives me an opportunity to do another one down there! I’m sure there’s a few in the county with rich history I can make a video out of!
Sir, you have posted here the best, most informative video I have seen of Oakland. Well done.
🙂↔️
I am visiting soon as part of my family research. My great great grandmother is buried at this cemetery so I watched to see how to actually find it. You stopped on a stone at 2:37 & it read Rosetta Catlin -- my great great grandmother. That's freaking cool. She might not be so hard to find after all.
One correction, the greenhouse was owned by the Atlanta Mens Garden Club and located at the Atlanta History Center. When the Cyclorama was relocated from the Atlanta Zoo to the History Center the greenhouse was moved to Oakland and opened up a space for the housing of the Cyclorama. Oakland is my favorite park in Atlanta - full of so much history, great architecture and wonderful horticulture - a real treasure. So happy to see it's receiving so much love and care after being in disrepair for so many years (back in the 70s & 80s). Good for the city and the Historical Socieities for stepping up an "saving" this very important part of Atlanta ...
Thanks for the video.my grandparents are also Pittman and are buried here.its a beautiful place.
Love all the extra info about the Creek and the big crystal. Very cool.
My Dad’s family is buried at Oxford. I grew up playing in that cemetery while my parents changed out the flowers. The headstone of Sami Nelle Fuller always fascinated me with her picture on it. My mom told me that the little girl ate rat poison and died. They didn’t have a picture of her so they laid her on a bed and took one and put it on her headstone for her family.
Great video- just found you! You have an amazing voice for narration, enjoying the snippets of the lives of the people buried there. And a snog for your lovely dog - amazing markings on her coat and face. RIP Jezabelle.
Thank you so much! The doodle bear was the best dog I coulda ever asked for! More videos in the future!
'consort of' = died before the husband. relic of = died after the husband
Today I learned!!! Thank you! I feel like I’ve seen “relic of” on tombstones but have never really payed much mind to it!
How did you skip the Confederate lion ??????????????????????????????
Confederate Lion’s been in an undisclosed storage location since 2020!
Interesting my family comes from Baldwin county actually found out one of our former enslavers is buried in that cemetery William A. Sanford most of them burned there were rich planters.
Headstones aren't cheap so if they've got a fancy one from the early 1800s that money came from somewhere!
@@quietparks yeah just wish memory hill would highlight them more so slave labor built the majority of Baldwin county’s wealth.
Absolutely beautiful, thank you for sharing.
We love this cemetery! It's so beautiful.

Hi, I really enjoy your videos. Love the scenery detail that you capture and your sense of humor lol. I'm from Alabama but my mom is from Atlanta. I have alot of family buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in East Point. Take care.
Big $ buried there. Kinda looks like a Hollywood or L.A. cemetery.
Found my picture history book of Athens. Bridge in Oconee Hill Cemetery was built in 1899 to connect the original 17 acres to the 90 acres over the river!!
I need that book too!! Where can I get it? Just subscribed!! I think the cannon might be near the UGA bell which I think is near the UGA Arc!! Thinking when going thru arc, take a right before building then a left at back of same building and that should be the Bell Tower on left.
Amazon has 'em! Just google "Oconee Hill Cemetery Volume 1", and you'll find places selling them. I'm sure some book stores or history museums in Athens will have copies as well. The double barrel cannon is on the NE side of the block the courthouse is on. Thanks for watchin' my videos!
I Love this!! Live in Athens & Love visiting it. This is where I’m wanting to be buried. In J section there lies Ian near a tree full of wind chimes. Ian was a 15-16 yr old that was a friend of son & daughter that tragically died from alcohol use with the wrong friends!! Anyways, I usually go there❤🙏🏻🕊🙏🏻❤️
does he have a little skateboard toy on his headstone?
Well done my friend, very informative.
I started exploring this place back in the 80's. It was a much different area back then, with the cemetery surrounded by abandoned factories, a liquor store, and a barbecue place. The cemetery itself was in pretty bad shape. It's great that its value was finally recognized. Even after going through every inch of Oakland through the years, I always find something new. It's weird going now and seeing condos overlooking the back, and all of those abandoned factories turned into loft apartments. It's also nice that the walkways aren't like minefields anymore...lol. You did a great overview, by the way. It truly is a special place.
I really enjoy your videos and hope to see many more. I live in northeastern metro Atlanta and also like to visit cemeteries. Hope you have a great New Year! I appreciate your efforts!
I'm open to any recommendations! It's rare I'm stopping in any of the cities up I-85. I'm thinkin' Marietta, Roswell, or Alpharetta next, but that traffic puts the fear of god in me. I also gotta do another library run and study some of the county cemetery books in the reference room.
Yeah, I-85 is crazy, LOL. I think you mentioned Westview in a prior video. That would be neat. Southview would also be a good visit if looking for famous graves. The Hollywood cemetery story (northeast Atlanta) would be interesting based on it's original design and expectations. It's sort of a sketchy area though.
Thank you for this Christmas video, you have some peaceful cemeteries in your area. I hope you have a fantastic day filled with family and friends!
Hughes Cemetery is especially peaceful! Always a beautiful place to visit. Hope your Christmas is as well!
Gorgeous place !
Terrific cemetery meanderings. I love to do the same thing, just mosey through them to see what they're like.
You should have mentioned the civil war battle fought from here and ,across the river.
Where can we find that book?
The Covington and (probably) Athens, GA library have a copy you can read but not check out. Amazon currently has a copy for sale. Just google “Oconee Hill Cemetery Volume 1” to find it. I always take the dust cover off my hardcover books so the photos may look a lil different. ISBN-10: 0972530215
I had no idea Margaret Mitchell died after getting hit by a car😢 Gone With The Wind is my all time favorite book/movie.
yes, 1949 by off duty taxis driver ! needless to say there was out cry !
Very Enjoyable Tour, Of A Beautiful Cemetery!!
Jezzy ! You’re the top dog! I’ve had many Jezzy’s good videos! Different and interesting!
So when you went to England did you explore any of the magnificent seven?
Just Père Lachaise Cemetery in France. At that time, I was *just* sorta getting in to them, and I'd say that cemetery also led me to fall in love with them. There were cats in there just floating around that let you pick 'em up and pet them! That said, next time I'm in London, I'm going directly to Highgate Cemetery from the airport!!!
Love your video and love your sense of humor!
The cedar is a Lebanon Cedar and is found in most cemeteries. It is a long lived evergreen and that one is original to Rose Hill, I am guessing. I looks to be approximately over 200 years. Beautiful! Consort means "the spouse of" who ever is named on that headstone.
There’s a cemetery a stones throw from the one I did in my very first video on this channel, and there’s an *enormous* cedar there. I wish I had visited it for that. Cedars are very common in cemeteries around here! Very powerful & energetic trees IMO.
Thank you for doing these,I enjoy the history as well. Do you take requests? I have ancestors buried in the Gwinnett county area one being pvt Christopher Ramey @ zion Hill Baptist church he was killed during a battle in Fredericksburg va 1862 and buried at home. I lived in Macon, and Milledgeville and have visited rose hill a few times.
I'm always interested in new cemeteries to check out! I've found the cemetery you mentioned. It's just a matter of researching some of the burials, and making content out of it! I will say though, I rarely frequent that part of Gwinnett. It's a hell of a drive from where I am traffic-wise lol. I'd love to do some Gwinnett Co. cemeteries, and ultimately I may start doing 2-3 cemeteries in one video so that I can make content with some of these smaller cemeteries!
@@quietparks i found my 4th great grandfather Joel Graham was a POW he was captured in Macon. I wish I had learned that while I lived there. I know a lot of the older cemeteries are forgetten. One in old hog mtn tho I think there's a mechanics shop there now. I remember the drive from Macon to atl oof the traffic up there is terrible. I've also found I had a relative that was a POW in Andersonville and died there. I didn't realize when I moved to Macon in 1939 that I had so much southern history most of which fought for the union. On my husband's side (Ramey) his roots go very deep for the CSA many being injured or killed during battles. I found many hidden secrets in the family doing this research. Thanks for responding
Check out the Georgia Archives in Morrow. They've got a wall of filing cabinets where people who have gone there to do genealogical research can store what they discover, and sort it by last name. I was able to flip through folders and folders of research done by someone in my lineage. So, if you've got a couple last names in mind, go check those filing cabinets, and see whether some ancestors have already done a bunch of leg work for you!
@@quietparks I've been doing the research by hand so to speak since about 1994. Before computers started making the connections for us 😂 I have been to the libraries on Jones, Bibb, Baldwin and that's how I found the secrets in the family. Like some of mine were called malloto which in those days meant anyone not white such as native Americans or evert the first recorded slave Mr Punch/Bunch is one of my gggg grandpa (yes Obama is a 10th cousin 4xs removed to me thru the Dunham line) it goes back my great grandmother was Choctaw she to says malloto. Sorry didn't mean to go there. I lived in the deep south for nearly 20 yrs and even in the early 90's my dating anyone not my own skin color was frowned on and often kept hidden my own niece was disowned for this very thing.
I came, I watched, I liked, so I subscribed. AND It's official, I'm your 100th subscriber 😁
What an honor to meet you! Thank you SO much! I am so grateful that my little channel is enjoyed by others. I was so excited to hit that number I posted about it on my insta story! You've even got a brindle dog in your thumbnail like my sweet Jezebelle who got me in to loving cemeteries on our walks through Decatur City Cemetery!
@@quietparks I love ANYTHING to do with old cemeteries, monuments, crypts, etc. A cemetery 2 blocks from my apartment complex has a Revolutionary War burial. Several family plots with iron fences here as well.
@@quietparks Thank you! The brindle dog in my photo is Jed, he is a Black Mouth Mountain Cur. The dog in the movie Old Yeller was a BMMC also, Jed may only be knee high but he weighs a muscular 60 pounds! I'm taking today to watch all your videos, and the notification bell is on 😄
Thank you so much! I'm anxious to make another! Between work, bad weather, and holidays, I'll have another as soon as I can! I'm shootin' for another by the end of the year, but time will tell.
@@quietparks Like I said, my bell is on!
It's so sad that that's so much history is lost in forgotten grave yards around the world.
What happened to the 8-year-old boy?
I’ve not been able to find any info. It’s probably buried in newspaper articles from back then, or requires a trip to some archives to do some research.
@@quietparks his parents or someone really loved him to give him such a beautiful memorial site. It's stunning & sad at the same time.
www.findagrave.com/memorial/7843748/john-b_ross-juhan According to Find A Grave, his memorial was erected by the fire station.
This is a terrific tour of a gorgeous cemetery. So well kept, and like you say, it's art and history that count. When some of the sites doing old graveyards start up with the spook shit, I'm done with it. Some legends and folk tales are amusing, but that's minor to the aesthetics preserved. Your tours are the best...
Thank you SO much!!! I’m grateful there are others like me that check out over the spooky shit!!
I apologize if that "triggered" anyone I've always considered myself a heinz 57 anyway. Knowing enough about the hidden secrets ya know? Like all by 2 of my ancestors fighting for the union tho the lived in KY, GA, Ms, TN, and al
Good morning from Roswell! I just discovered your video from a month ago and you are showing the opening shot of walking through the main gate at Oakland, and that is me taking images with my camera that you are showing in front of you! I photograph Oakland all the time, and I am quite shocked to see myself in your video! Absolutely smashing job! Sean
I remember! I even reshot that clip 'cause I felt "caught" when I first saw you lol. And, then we chatted a bit. Cool to see that you get to see the video I made!
@@quietparks thank you! That absolutely made my day. I’m wishing you and your family, a very happy holiday and take care.
Thank you very much for every detailed information. Awesome and interesting work.
Thank you! One of these weekends I'll do a video of all my favorite cemeteries in Walton County using these books!
