  • Spent a few days camping at my favorite hang gliding site Shelley Beach. Met one of the local flyers Dan and his lovely wife Sharna (do hope that's the correct spelling).
Like me Dan hasn't flown for awhile so we agreed to meet up and get back into the harness. I strapped my GoPro2 onto his Fun190.

Glad to see you are still at it, what a great site you have and camp site by the look of it. But do you never get any air movment there it looks so smooth, We have a few sites here that are similar but we call them boring soaring and no camping these days, I bet your inland sites get exciting though. As for me I am staying at dune gooning, that way I do not have to carry the gliders too far I had great flight new years day but weather has been crap since. Roll on our summer All the best. Pete

Yes mate its good to get back into it but it took me 2 years to do the retraining and get my rating. At last I have it even though I'm flying with a red ribbon for a while. I started in 75 on Sydney's northern beaches and the central coast and stopped about the same time you did. I thing the gliders a much better now especially in the ground handling and performance department.
Dan's high nose take off in a light breeze worried me a bit but he made it look easy.

Yes the takeoff was a little dodgy but all good.

Nice video of a very pretty site, I love the aqua coloured water. The conditions look pretty light, what was the direction and strength? I'm just getting back into it after 30 years, so nice to fly again.
    Regards, Graham

Just a little late replying. Wind very light SSE. Smack onto the main ridge.

Dan, what a nice site. Turn around from LZ to take off looks short. Where in the world is Shellies? I see you have two ramps. When you use the left launch do you fly off to the left to stay up? Is that about the usual amount of beach or is that low or high tide? You lucky dog!

Hi Bill, Shelley beach is West of Albany Western Australia. Left ramp for SSE winds and right for Southerly winds. If you use the right you usually just fly the take off hill. The main ridge to the right needs SSE winds.
