Was an Alaskan Ice Road Trucker for about 5 years....ran the ALCAN and Cassiar Highway between lower 48 and Alaska. Miss it, but it was a real challenge at times! Thanks for posting this....brought back memories.
What a beautiful video! This is in my bucket list, to drive to Alaska. I live in Houston, Texas and we've road tripped thru the USA and Canada (and of course Mexico) for the past 15 years.
Of the many AlCan 'windshield videos' I've watched, this one is the standout. That last segment showing the mountain range, after clearing into Alaska, does this best job I've seen of capturing the dimensions in that landscape. Tremendous. Thank you.
Nice video. I was just in Alaska last week. Anchorage, Talkeetna, Denali, Girdwood with some stops in between. 2nd time going solo. Love it. PS- I know somebody that has 20 dogs in Two Rivers. Not too far from North Pole. I mushed last March.
I had to drive though Canada on my way home to Wasilla, AK in July of 2021. The Canadian boarder agent that interviewed me first was unfriendly and insisted I drive completely out of Canada in 3 days. Being on a motorcycle that was unsafe and unreasonable. The second agent I showed my plan and detailed hotel reservations to approved them and said my 5 day plan was fine to him. They did not do the Covid test at this boarder crossing and it was quite difficult to do it on-line. My phone had issues with the site and had to be guided to do it by phone. I did not feel welcome in Canada and couldn't wait to get back in Alaska. The roads in northern Yukon were very poorly maintained. Not a good trip via Canada. The route I drove was not very pretty with lots of forest fire smoke that limited my visibility. I have driven the highway many times over the years and enjoyed the people and country. Thank you for doing this video.
I had a horrible experience when I bought a home last Sept in Anchorage. I was completely self sustainable with food and water for the 4 days and I didn't know we had to stay in a hotel despite the fact that the website said we just didn't have to have contact with anyone. I wasn't going to stay in White Horse as people had told me my new truck would get vandalized and that is the hotel they told me to stay in. Makes no sense to me. They don't want us to be around anyone, but we have to go to a hotel. They told me to go back and I was homeless for 2.5 months waiting for an opening on the Ferry. I got a job doing heavy equip operating work for a few days for room and board and some money for the ferry. I have to do it again in 20 days and if I get refused I don't know what I'll do. I have to go back to pick up my trailer.
Any recommendations for people new to driving through because I'll be coming up late july early august driving up. I'll be going to Anchorage as well because I'll be going to APU and for context we're coming from NJ.
Yes so true. A longer stay in in the works after this COVID crap is under better control. I think I will keep my visits to the states of Utah, Arizona, California and that is it.
Where were you going cause you said 4 and a half days that means you are going through canada to get to maybe washington no... washington state is 2 days from alaska, maybe Montana or North Dokata
VERY rude on my last trip past Sept. They refused my entry. I was completely self sustainable for 4 days in my truck but they said I had to stay in a hotel. The website was so confusing. I ended up having to take a ferry. i have to go again and I'm not looking forward to it at all. They don't like Americans........liberal xenophobes.
My father helped build that as part of the US Army before he was transferred to Australia... I hope to drive that road before I meet my maker... He passed away 22 years ago. I better get to it!
I bought a home in Anchorage last Sept. I had all of my ducks and had worked like a bear to get my COVID test in time. I was self sustainable for the 4 days as I had food etc. and could sleep in the back of my truck under my canopy. They refused me at the border saying I had to stop and stay in a hotel for each night of my trip. I didn't know what to do as I was technically homeless at this point. I wasn't going to stay in White Horse as I had just bought the truck a week before. People told me my stuff would get stolen and truck damaged. My only option was to take the ferry and be homeless for 2.5 months until I could get on the last ferry north..........$3000 later. I'll be doing it again and don't know what I will do if I'm refused again.
@@joyoflife2020 Thanks, I appreciate the vote of confidence. Does this mean I won't have a time limit to get out? But yes, I'll be checking the app. The website is confusing. Some say you don't need a Q plan and other places say you still do which is confusing.

Just did it from NY to AK in 5 days solo in December. That was a intense. Especially with their time limits to get through Canada. I got lucky.

I’ve done the Alaska highway a couple times and I wonder why they call it Alcan.. wasn’t that an old mining company or something like that?
Love the fur baby...

Super enjoyed this video.
Thanks. But Canada is better when you can stay longer. COVID sucks.
Beautiful. Too bad you couldn't stay longer. We are hoping to visit Alaska when the borders open up.

@@joyoflife2020 Did you find it harder to find free camping in the other states?
No we stayed at various places. Never paid for camping. That’s the beauty of a van conversion. No one knows you are inside at night usually
The clip of the bear is wild 😮

What’s the beat at 1:10 ?
I was just at that boarder crossing in 2018 they were so chill but the other boarder crossing a little bit west, they were so much more rude.
Yes. It’s a head game

Do you know what the highest elevation you encountered on you driving route to Alaska?
How did you go during the COVID

It is in better now than years ago. Except the Yukon is the worst part in some spots closer to Alaska.
@@joyoflife2020 thanks for the info!!!
Who is singing? it is wonderful. Awesome video. Living vicariously through you
I don’t remember the singer. Sorry. Life is good

Canada dropped the requirements. All you need is proof of all vaccinations. Check the arrivecan app
