21st century is Green day's most ambitious and artistically satisfying album. Lyrically it's their showcase piece. Musically they experimented and tried ventured into some different soundscapes. Message of the album and Billy's voice will stay relevant for ages. It's the only album I listen end to end and I don't get bored. It's a masterpiece truly..

My thoughts after watching the video:-
    1. I had no idea I just watched a 50 minute long video in a single sitting.
    2. Billie Joe is a fucking poet.
    3. The album is really well-produced.
    4. I agree with the statement that it is mostly overlooked due to the fact that it had to follow-up American Idiot. A very high bar to climb.
    5. You really did your homework on this.
    6. The research, isolating the vocals and instruments, track by track explanation, and tying the loose story together. You did an amazing amazing job at this!
11k views doesn't cut it. This deserves more views. Kudos brother !

Could not agree more, this is a stunningly good album. I think it gets overlooked because Dookie was so huge and then AI was so huge.. and one band is not meant to do keep doing this, also many people just couldn’t digest everything in 21 CBD. I wish your delivery was not so rushed though, it’s difficult to make you out at times.

    • @KrisBryant99

I think it gets overlooked because Dookie was unconsciously NOT a good album and AI confused the hell out of people as a result so in other words, Dookie haunted the band like mad crazy.

I feel like they did so much in this era because American Idiot was so successful they had HIGH enthusiasm and hopes for 21st CB. This album was like a much more elaborate American Idiot. Then they had the Broadway American Idiot musical, the Foxboro Hot Tubs, Green, the 21st Century Breakdown tour, Green Day Rock Band. They were doing lots of interviews and trying to bring attention to charities. So much going on. And then it felt like everyone forgot about all of it immediately, it was wild. I think this album is the peak of their talent. They tried really hard and you can tell. American Idiot is one of my least favorites and it absolutely breaks my heart all the time that this album in particular didn't get more recognition. It's everything American Idiot wasn't for me.

It by far is my favorite of their works. I sort of which it actually were a story that was completely knitted together. I also loved the motifs that bled into other songs. Much like an actual opera.

I know this level of analysis isn't always possible with simpler records, so the fact that is with both American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown says a lot about their writing. But after the albums they put out over the years, and having liked a few tracks even before my reappraisal, I can’t help but just appreciate this album a lot more. It was the last time I feel like Green Day made something truly special. It was the closest to a follow up to American idiot as we’re gonna get, but on its own merits, you can’t help but feel the ambition

I have the exect same nostalgic relationship with it. I was born 2006 and once my dad played the whole thing on a car journey when I was like 8 yrs old. I became a fan of green day over the past year and a half or so and realised that the songs were the ones I had listened to all those years ago and there were still some riffs and lyrics sin my head like "little girl", "a fire burns today..." and "21st century deadliiiiiiinnnne". This sort of revisiting made listening to it again all the more magical and it's definitely my favourite album to listen to by green day.

I definitely think this album gets too much hate. Songs like The Static Age, American Eulogy and East Jesus Nowhere are some of Green Day’s best songs to date. The guitar sound is definitely weak compared to the albums before it and I think that’s one thing holding me back from loving it more as well as some of the tracks I don’t ever come back to (Before the lobotomy, 21 Guns, Last Of The American Girls) however I can just pretend those aren’t there.

The weak guitar distortion is the worst thing about this record. I think that's why its less popular than AI. Songs like 21CB, Viva la Gloria, Little Girl, or The Static Age could have become big hits if it wasnt for the bad mix.

As a restless heart syndrome glazer, I do not agree with this take. While I do believe the lyrics can be a bit corny, the song is very well crafted and made for Christians mind.

@@LITERALLYSPidERpunk161 Agree. If the lyrics were better and the guitars louder it could become a big hit. The piano intro is so iconic. (btw I think it's Gloria's song)

The problem with you young reviewers, it’s all black and white, you claim a masterpiece then also claim five tracks are skippers. Okay then.

Controversial take. I think American Idiot is overrated and was overplayed. Don't get it wrong, I enjoyed the album but, it was hard to escape because it was being shoved into my face everywhere I turned. Even in the 2010s when I was in highschool you STILL couldn't escape it, it became annoying very quickly. But this album absolutely slapped. It is in my top top 3 albums from Greenday. The other two being Revolution Radio and Insomniac as my all time favorite.

I don’t think thy is album was underrated, once 21st century breakdown was out, every music channel was playing one or the other song from the album, may it be vh1, mtv back when these channel played actual music , green day became the band for the voice of them at generation for rebel teens and people in their 20s, green day reintroduced itself to a whole new generation , at that point green wasn’t just a band with few hits a couple of years ago, they redefined their genre , had a whole new story to tell, they really tapped into the rebel genre with punk rock and grunge music , green day was so popular that every tv show wanted them in their show, they made it to the Simpsons, their tour was book for a year , my music videos awards named them artist of the year for 2010 and winning them a lot of awards , they came to back to perform in 2011 and 2012 too, u till they were eventually replaced with other modern artists. This was the time when bieber fever and jonas brothers and one direction were the go to artists for most teenagers and kids among them greenday came and swept them all up, yet being true to their music and fans , I remember my TH-cam was flooded with green day covers and live concert videos , major news channel were covering almost all concerts, and radio was thing a thing people listened to while driving around and guess who was on it the most, green days new album and they also played their other hits boulevard of broken dreams, American idiot, holiday and Jesus of suburbia etc
