The thing with Green Day is that they hold onto songs for a really long time. Haushinka was a Dookie outtake, When it's Time was first played live in 1992 and was released 18 years later. A song the ends up on a b-side list could be an outtake from that album or could be a rerecording of a song from a decade ago and we'd have no way if knowing (unless it mentions an action movie actor's move to politics).
I could have sworn billie in a interview said that youngblood was from cigarettes and valentines but got new lyrics. If i ever find it ill link it here.
Same, I remember him saying something like that, but I could’ve sworn that it was originally for Dookie and was written about his wife, hence the line “She’s the cedar in the trees in Minnesota.” That could’ve been a line that stayed from the original take, but my guess is still unconfirmed.
Correct me if there is more history but my theory on Shoplifter is that it was going to be a part of the song Homecoming alongside The Death of St. Jimmy or Rock N' Roll Girlfriend for example. I don't know when in Homecoming it would take place but probably before The Death of St. Jimmy because it does references Jimmy in it. Homecoming was a bunch of separate songs that the three members wrote that got put together as one, so I think Shoplifter was one of the songs that just didn't make the cut for Homecoming.
Shoplifter was never planned as part of Homecoming but The Pedestrian does, just compare the chorus of it to the chorus of We're Coming Home and you'll see.
Another great video, i actually liked the direction they were headed with Nimrod and then Warning so would of loved to here this album. American Idiot obviously went a totally different direction and i think Saviours has the first songs since then that feel like the next step from Warning
It is fascinating now watching this video in retrospect after the ai 20th anniversary release. Some possible thoughts I have is it is entirely plausible that Clusterbomb was written for C&V, especially since the demo does not include the final bridge, that ties it into the ai story, but instead repeats the chorus. Another thought I had after seeing the list at 6:46 is that Lately (One More Year) could have been the infancy of the demo Just Another Year, which of course became the beginning to Homecoming. This of course could just be another Waste Away/Walk Away scenario where they just happen to have similar sounding names. All in all very informative and fantastic video. Thank you for your hard work!
Cigarettes and Valentines needs to be released, they have the tapes. Thank you for this video, all the attention to this project very well may spark the boys to put it out finally. Hopefully in its original form… 🎉🎉🎉
theres a possibility that "end of the world" could of been renamed to "last night on earth" they couldve changed the name and mixed up some lyrics. For me, im an all time Green Day fan so i know most lore, but you made this video very well and understanding!
I believe there are some pieces of lost media better off lost, such as the album “Pseudoscorpion”, but, in my opinion, “Cigarettes and Valentines” should be found.
Edit: I saw you mentioned this at the end. But I have an additional idea: American Idiot 21st Anniversary Edition. Not 20th or 25th. Complete C&V demos and a callback to 21st CB. It's like an AI sandwich. Imo this has to be the way to go. Give Saviors room to breath in 2024, then release Warning 25th Anniversary late '24/early '25 and then the absolute 20 hour monolith of AI Anniversary with C&V, BiaB, B-sides, etc, in mid 2025. I just had a crazy thought: Green Day can release C&V with the 25th Anniversary edition of American Idiot. We can finally hear those songs with the original tracklist in a fitting release, not on its own but as a part of the complete AI history. That could make it the most hype anniversary release ever.
It's ironic how you started the video out by apparently complaining on how the search ends up mattering more than what it actually is and you spend the rest of the video talking about the search for an album that we know wasn't good enough and end up replace by one that was worth it and released. I thought you would address that at the end of the video by being aware of it but, you just kinda mentioned that again without being aware of you doing the same thing. Anyway this may be the most informed video on the album to date do congrats for that!

Green Day is one of those always writing bands where for every 1 song you hear there's 10 you never will.

end of the world just became roshambo, its pretty obvious because of the lyrics and the fact that both songs have the exact same time lenght
Like all the Green Day stuff

I hope Billie Joe sees this comment
Talk about The Paper Kingdom album next .
I really doubt it was stolen to be honest if it were stolen at THAT time it would have been leaked all over the internet and limewire and shit
I heard that Roshambo and Supermodel Robots were also in Cigarettes and Valentines .
bro istg roshambo is originally titled as end of the world (referring to the AI b-sides disc) and supermodel robot based the drum intro of lights out
@@gran.9169 Homecoming Demo was created during Cigarettes and Valentines production .
@@gran.9169maybe , just maybe . Wake Me Up When September Ends was also a song from Cigarettes and Valentines based on the lyrics .
New Video Idea: American Idiot Album By Green Day
