    This is actually common practice among royalty around the world, Though Egypt dynasty took it to another level by practicing direct sibling marriage. I have half a sister running around here somewhere. I haven't seen her since the 7th grade. I found out she was my half sister the year prior. I was told not to tell anyone. I told my best friend and that's how she found out that the man who loved and raised her, wasn't even her father. I still feel horrible about it, to this day. I wonder if she knows our father died?

    • @vianjelos

      The same goes for adopted siblings..legally and ethically there is no issue..they arent biological so no harm will come to the children they produce(the only reason incest is illeagl) but morally its wrong because they grew up as siblings and were raised by the same parents. Step siblings are less taboo tho because its not uncommon for them to either have not been raised together from a young age(if their parents got together when they were adults or teens already they arent seen as siblings since they werent raised together) or sometimes the kids are together first and then their parents get togehter and marry from meeting through the kids..in that case its more fucked up on the parents end for marrying their childs partners parent.

    Technically in this period, the main successor to an emperor would be his wife (half-sister, patrillineal cousin) since she would be from imperial family as well, not some outside clan. This would also ensure the line of succession, as a child from 2 emperors would have better claim than that from 1 emperor.

Since they would already know everything about eachother, the only thing stopping the relationship is that they are blood related or something. In fantasy, pesky things such as logic can be ignored. So people are free to explore such taboo topics like incest. Also I think many of these incsst with the little sister things are written by women. They like to explore things that pull at their emotions.
      I personally have no issue with the topic so long as no one is exploiting eachother and they don't have biological kids.

    Hawaiian chiefs did the same thing, weirdly enough the disabilities found from limiting the gene pool was not present in their bloodlines, they were perfectly fine. They did this because Hawaiian chiefs were related to the gods, because of their godly nature it was said that you must marry someone who is also of equal status as you so the chiefs would marry their siblings.
    Little side notes Hawaiian chiefs had multiple wives, Kamehameha III actually had 30. Hawaiian chiefs didn’t have to be males, their were female chiefs as well. If a woman had a kid with a lower rank man the kids rank would be the same as his/her mothers.

    • @Linfamy
      @Linfamy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That's right, many of the Baekje royals who fled to Japan married into influential families, including the Imperial Family. They also created their own clans, of course. It's a popular idea among historians that the Soga clan originated in Korea. The Nihon Shoki states that Emperor Kanmu's mother was a descendant of a Baekje king.
