Born singer isn’t exactly like a cover to say…
J.Cole has a song called Born Sinner. BTS used the melody of that song, but changed the lyrics to fit their own experiences. They released the song as a “free song” on SoundCloud since it technically wasn’t their song to release back in 2013. To have it be released on the album Proof means they got permission from J.Cole and his crew to release the song which is amazing. The song is so personal to them and army. There’s a performance of it with the lyrics that is so emotional and powerful.

For Youth is also a song I want to talk about. The intro of that song actually plays a clip of Army singing the song “Young Forever” with BTS. Young forever is a song all armies hold dear to them for many reasons. The clip then faded out and leads to Jungkook singing (by the way his vocals in For Youth is just 🤌) and one of my favorite moments is the ending with V. His deep voice just gives the song a different vibe and is executed so perfectly. It reminds me of his ending in “Sea”
Edit: also I think it’s so cool that Anderson spoke in Korean to them for a little bit. Friendship goals 💜
Another edit: I miss BTS concerts! The energy from them and army were just amazing! I miss that feeling and really want to go back 😭 so everyone going to the concert in Busan, have fun!

@@roses2361 he’s a quarter Korean. His mom is half. His life can be a very interesting movie that needs to be made. There is a write up about his family history it’s crazy. The .Paak is an homage to his Korean roots by using a Korean last name.
One thing I love about BTS is that they are really comfortable putting raw emotion into their performances. It's not showy, but it's very powerful.

I’m so happy that you stumbled into BTS and we stumbled into your reactions. BTS has truly enriched all of our lives. I don’t understand what super powers they possess that make make them sing so perfectly together and that make us all feel their music so deeply without even knowing what the lyrics are sometimes. It enters our souls and makes the world feel more loved. I’m not explaining it well. Their music goes past my brain, through my heart and into my soul. Lucky us.

This was filmed at an abandoned waterpark called Rock-a-hula that is about 20 miles from Barstow, CA and 135 miles from Las Vegas.

First, the editor’s notes are killing me. 😂 Second, I was so emotional through this. The first time I watched it I thought it sounded like a goodbye. I know it’s just a break, but it’s like you can FEEL how much they love and appreciate ARMY. Like they wanted to give us something special to hold on to until they return. 🥺😭💜💜💜

Best performance ever from a watcher point of view because the sound was perfect, the balance between the volume of the band and the voices was great. We could well focus on their voices and how they vibes with the live band and backing vocals.
When u hear this live performance with headphones it is gorgeous the depth of the sound and how they improved their vocals. Even if i enjoy watching them dancing and singing, this kind of calmer set is perfect to appreciate their voices.
And definitly BTS with a live band hit so different, the groove is so GOOD i LOVE how they arrange the songs with live band it sounds soooo much better than a back track. I wish they could always performe with a live band even during an entire concert.
And i am totally agree with you that Anderson Paak was fire, he gave an other dimension to Yet to come.
My favorite is still For Youth i like the groove kinda jazzy/RnB and all their voices shined so bright in this kind of song.

I love this live band version! Even better than the studio recorded versions. Appreciate how you described it. They seemed to really enjoy it and it had a super fun vibe like the NPR Tiny Desk Concert or a couple of the MTV Unplugged performances. BTS seems to think we only love the singing with choreo, but their voices are so superb I hope they give themselves permission to relax and do more seated performing.
I also love the performances where we can just savor their vocals. What a treat!
I agree, Andrew. This performance was special---all seven hitting on all cylinders. Yet to Come and For Youth sound like completely different songs here--groovy, soulful vibes. I love, love, love me some BTS with live instrumentalists and background singers! Their live performances always take their recorded tracks to another level.

I was there at the first LA concert too and what you’re saying is dead on. I was also an Army for about 8 months at the time. The connection between Army and BTS is always palpable when they get together. I don’t want to be dramatic but it always makes me think of what Hobi said on V live once, “You see me? Yea, I see you.” BTS and Army’s souls are intertwined for life. The LA and Vegas concerts were some of the happiness moments I have ever had. Have never experienced anything like before. Such a privilege and highlight of my life. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

They really are the ultimate performers. When you find yourself smiling at a screen for no reason you know you are watching something good for the heart, a purple one at that 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜Finding these young men over 2 years ago has given me back the music that everyday life had taken away, they are my daily dose of happiness ☺️

I am a hobi biased and, as we all know, hobi's stage presence and performance skills have always been so impeccable that I didn't think he could ever improve, cuz he was already so good
but seeing him during his verse in this perfomance of for youth, his gestures and the way he moved, he showcased a completely different character from everything he's done in the past
I honestly felt some lady gaga vibes from his posture in this, and it actually made me wonder if he was at all influenced by her show that he had just watched in Vegas before this was recorded
then his single more came out and, once again, I saw a new character being displayed by him
not gonna say too much not to spoil things for you, but his movements, the way he delivers lines and holds himself during that song and music video, felt again so new and fresh that I was one more surprised by his endless facets and talents
seriously, please pay attention to his body language during performances, it's crazy how he's so subtle and so expressive at the same time

I am also a newer ARMY (Butter Era), and saw them D1 LA & D4 LV live (D2 LA & D3 LV LivePlay-which was awesome), and your description of the purple aura & ARMY+BTS synergy at the concerts is...something that must be experienced to fully explain! The sheer love & joy & shared tears in the stadiums, the crowd interaction with bombs & fanchants & members...I've never experienced anything like it. An almost spiritual experience, a good cult, I guess?! 💜

I had tickets for Dallas TX concert ... then covid... and all shows were postponed but not cancelled. I held onto those tickets for over a year and cried when Big Hit finally cancelled. Most of us were willing to wait even longer but I did go to LA show later.
That For Youth made me so emotional too

Always a pleasure, Andrew. I remember being so in the moment with this Live that the end felt incredibly abrupt. I didn't want it to end. Born Singer is an emotional piece always. I am a sucker for vocal harmonies; I wish they would do this more often. Yet to Come: soothing and quietly addicting. For Youth: the prettiest love song ever. The mutual respect between BTS and Anderson Paak was beautiful to see. I respect the later for speaking the Korean he knew with the boys--that was a class move. I am looking forward to the Proof demo comparisons. Great idea!

You really should’ve done this reaction with Caitlin because you obviously needed a hug. All those songs are so emotionally charged. Thank you for pointing out Anderson’s drumming. A good drummer adds so much colour to a performance. It was a wonderful touch having him there. That key change in For Youth really adds so much passion and V’s ending is the icing on the cake. It was lovely that they included all those who’ve been with them from the beginning and not just fans but staff and family too. Moving away from the music, I’d like to know which sadist dressed poor Jimin and SUGA in jumpers in the desert. They all looked so incredible in shades of blue and grey but those two must have been so hot. The makeup ladies must’ve been working flat out on all of them to keep down the shine.
Born Singer was only on Soundcloud and some live at their Japanese concerts i believe
This is their version of Born Sinner which (I think) Suga wrote either right before or right after their debut. It's basically about how they preserver through their hardships because they're meant to be singers. It's really beautiful and I would check out the stage mix youtube video because I think you can react to it without it being blocked. They performed it only a couple of times and they modify the lyrics depending on where they are in their journey.

This performance was so amazing. It came after Proof was released, and I had already heard the songs, but they were even better live! I had heard the two early performances of Born Singer before, and considered it one of their most underrated songs, but now that it's on this album, I don't think it can count as underrated any more. That song is like the soul of BTS, and the fact that it was one of the first songs they sang, back when it was all in front of them and their dreams were yet unrealized--is telling. It's the prophecy that came true. Best to Come and For Youth just gain in beauty and meaning every day, as we begin to see their new endeavors, and bask in the knowing of how special ARMY is to them, that they write us love songs and promise us their lifelong devotion, for which we reciprocate in kind!!!

I am so glad you were not spoilt with the special guest!!! BTS live is heavenly. Also Born singer is so good! I know you haven't heard the original but just know that some of the lyrics got changed in this version (most notably RM) so that would be one thing to keep in mind when you listen to the original one Andrew! Amazing reaction as always!!! This proof live is even more emotional to watch knowing what we know now about the current break.

I know they have several performances of Yet to Come and For Youth but this is my very favorite. Do I love their dancing? Of course! But I also love hearing them just sing! I enjoy listening to their beautiful ad-libs and harmonies that are harder to hear on the track. All of these songs show their depth of talent and synergy. They truly are a unicorn. Not just in K-pop, but in the music industry as a whole.

Andrew please analyze for us the different versions of their songs demos. It will be sooooo interesting to me (or at least a few). The draft they submit to the production/writers/composer team and the end results are so different sometimes. I would be somewhat frustrated to witness my version modified so much there's almost no trace of my work anymore although the end result justify the process and benefits to everyone. PLEASE DO IT 🙏💜 🙂

I loved your reactions to this, some of them were like mine the first time I watched it. I am happy I watched it before the Fiesta because I may of cried at the end! Born Singer has always been a favorite of mine since the first time I saw it. If you find the footage of them singing it at concerts it really is an emotional song! ( I will look forward to you finding the different performances and comparing the lyrics). I am so glad they got rights to it and were able to add it to the cd's. Now I just have to find the cd's (they were out of it at the store I went to :().
For Youth I love the song, I liked everything about it! Yet to Come in this live was amazing with Anderson on the drums and the backup singers! I love when BTS performs live with bands. I agree this was a perfect stage to their last as a group for a little while. (I say little because we don't know how long, with solo's and if military duty call's but one thing I do know is Time does seem to go fast)!.

Just another vote for Born Singer! Definitely start at the beginning: that live version Sunshine Sam mentioned. It's impressive on many levels. My favorite part is hearing Jin sing, "I'm a born singer / Perhaps it's an early confession / But I'm so happy I'm good." 💜

Yes, please, Andrew, please review the demos and compare with the released versions. Some true gems that would never have seen the light of day… My favourite is RM’s demo for Young Forever! It contains gold nuggets of genius… but I’ll let you judge for yourself!

A transcendent performance. One of their best performances vocally from all the members. SO SO impressive and nuanced - so perfect and raw at the same time.

1- There is a video in Twitter with Daechwita without his voice. I've tagged you twice and erased both times, minutes ago haha. I think that it's a great song for you to react.
2- Epiphany's demo is a completely different song. And it's beautiful too. I'd like to see you react to both together.
3- There is a word in Born Singer that Suga decided to omit in this version but that marks a note in a silence, you will notice it easily the next time when you react to it -it's in English, and it's a curse-.
4- I was really waiting for you to react to For Youth. After their concerts, after filming the Festa Dinner but before it was aired, they filmed in three different music shows live versions with ARMY of Yet to Come and For Youth. Each of them, but in special the three of For Youth, is so touching and special. You can find them in Music Bank, Inkigayo and M Countdown. But yes, in their new three songs, in Proof, I felt what you said: in each song there is a moment when each of them is shining. And I was so surprised and happy for Jin in his verse here, and his growling in Run BTS, I wish he can trust and explore to the maximum the incredible voice he has.
5- Thank you so much for your reactions, I don't mind at all when you stop to share your thoughts or your knowledge: I have already watched and heard the real material before and I wouldn't watch someone reacting to it if they would just see it making faces. Hey, sorry I couldn't watch till now, but YES! Anderson brought Yet to Come to life in a sense. And as I, as a pagan xD, would say "he was singing-drumming", like he was accentuating the vocals as opposed to just support, being underneath, the drums was the 8th voice in the song if that makes sense? ^^UUUU again, non musician here, but usually the instrumental melody doesn't have to coincide with the vocal melody mmm... Whatever. I loved it as much as you, so no worries, you were not over the top there hahaha
