  • After soggy footwells I decided to investigate and this is how I fixed the problem. Big tip, start from the bottom inside the engine bay. It might save you a lot of time and effort.

Hi Tony, I had a similar problem with my 2014 Octavia VRS with Pano roof when i first bought it (used) I found that water was travelling from the roof, down the passenger A pillar and pooling in the nearside footwells. The tell tale was the smell and water splashes around the bonnet release handle where it was finding its way out, with the A pillar trim popped off it was easy to see what was happening.
It turned out in my case that the bonding between the roof and the plastic hosing/tray which it sits in. Both had to come out and be re-bonded, touch wood no problems since. Had to shop vac a couple of litres of water out of the carpet but was lucky as it was the height of summer so managed to get it dried out, steam clean and anti-bac it in situ (I've dealt with a water logged fiesta where all the carpets and underlay material had to be stripped out and cleaned out of the car which was a nightmare).
I did a lot of research while trying to sort my problem and most of the time the issue is clogged drain hoses as you identified here. I now 'service' these on a yearly basis. I would be cautious about sticking wire or similar through them as I've read of people tearing the hoses, similarly with using compressed air, the white push fit piece that connects to the roof tray is only bonded to the hose and I saw one chap managed to blow these apart using compressed air and had to rebond them in.
I start by manipulating the rubber drain points on the bulkhead by hand as this seems to be where the majority of the dirt accumulates. To get to them its a case of opening the bonnet and pulling the rubber weather strip off the top of the scuttle trays. There are then some friction clips that need taking off the scuttle tray. The passenger side scuttle tray can be removed IIRC, however at the drivers side you will need to gently (they can be quite brittle) lift the scuttle tray up and squeeze your hand in to get to the drain point as to fully remove the full scuttle panel requires both wiper arms to be removed. I then flush it through form the roof tray using a good quantity of warm (but not too warm) soapy water. If this still isn't flowing freely then I use a length of plastic hedge trimmer wire, doubled over and fed from the roof down through the drainage pipe. I prefer not to do this, however its quite flimsy stuff so if it runs into any resistance I don't think it would cause any damage whereas wire could.
I also service the roof itself on an annual basis. Information online suggests you need expensive Krytox rubber treatments and a special lubricating paste from VW (which I bought at considerable expense and its not that good) to service the roof - however you don't. Open the roof and carefully blast any debris out of the runners with compressed air, once the majority of the crud is gone it can be further cleaned with a soft haired brush and a damp cloth, next clean the rubber seal with a damp clean cloth. I then treat the mechanism with a coating of WD40 Specialist Dry PTFE Lubricant and the rubber seal with nextzett gummi pflege rubber treatment.
If your Octavia is like mine and has the older style door seals that trap water between them, its also worth coating the rubber passenger and boot door seals with Gummi Pflege as it does an excellent job of stopping the seals from freezing to one another in the cold weather, as they are otherwise prone to doing.
I keep meaning to look into clearing the rear drain tubes, however as you say you cant access these from the roof as they are concealed by the roof mechanism. I've seen some technical diagrams for the MK3 Leon (which is basically the same car) suggesting them travel down the C pillar and out near the rear wheels, however I think they may be hidden behind the arch liner somewhere.
While the panoramic roof is nice and all that, it adds a lot of complication and weight to the car (which in TDI trim isn't exactly quick to begin with) and I would steer clear of getting a car with one in the future. I appreciate you've probably sorted your problems by now looking at when you posted your video, but just wanted to share my experiences in case they might help anyone else who finds your video.
    Cheers

@@darrenobrien6061 Hey mate i end up working it out myself to remove the plastic guard at the bottom of the window you simply remove the little metal clips that run along the length of the bonnet once you have that off you can get access to the spider guard nipple and putting some compressed air up it as well as a little massage to remove the dirt did the job for me
you can also get a small brush on a long poker from aliexpress i think they are pretty cheap.

Anyone had any issues with water sloshing about when stopping?
Its a Skoda Octavia estate 2016.
I have checked the panoramic sunroof for signs of a blocking and everything seems fine. The noise seems to be in the area of the passenger's rear seat above the door. Any info would be much appreciated. I haven't noticed any unusual smells or any damp in the car as yet. This started about 2 days ago.
    Many thanks.

Could it be in the actual door? I've had cars in the past that literally stored litres of water and there were plugs to let it out at the bottom
