    Thanks for your answer. I´m mainly philosophical but try to find modern/western interpretations of the great indian spiritual traditions.
    Hypothesis:
    Atma/Purusha/Spirit is neutral. When it descends into manifestation it splits into energy and matter. Energy (prana) is positively charged and is attracted by the negatively charged matter (prakriti). We as individuals feel this positively charged energy as desire. Yoga tries to avert our desire from the sense objects and instead by means of abhyasa and vairagya return to spirit by giving the desire a higher object.
    And this is possible because a neutral "object" actually attracts positively (and negatively) charged "objects". So instead of desire being our enemy it becomes our best friend.
    (Sattva according to this is whats left of spirit in this material world and can act as a helper to lead us back to our spiritual home.)

    It's totally possible to have a dance off to classical music! 😂 🙊hehe jk! This was good! So in terms of eventually reaching moksha, it is best to be Sattvic as you go through the cycles of rebirth. As one has high levels of Sattva, it is natural to use Rajas and Tamas (in a balanced way thru meditation, yoga, healthy diet, rest, fulfilling ones dharma, etc.) in order for our perceptions to be clear, which then encourages the activation of the nadis, opening of the chakras and then ultimately reaching higher states of consciousness.
    Excited to hear more! ✨

    You mention here that in Indian homes it’s common to hear the three gunas mentioned. I was under the impression that nowadays Hindus were no longer being taught the real meanings behind their tradition, but were only going through the motions, similar to Catholicism which I was raised in.
    Is this true? If so is there any difference between Indians raised in India and the West?

    So if the Rajasic man is strongly attracted to the beautiful woman, and if the Tamasic man is even more strongly attracted to the beautiful woman, can we say then that the Rajasic man would be more likely to eventually get tired of her and want a breakup or divorce, and move on to another woman, whereas the tamasic man would want to hold on to her forever?

    • @academyofindianphilosophy2022
      @academyofindianphilosophy2022  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jason Roberts This is a brilliant question. It seems to me that in a given relationship. A satvika person would try to direct it towards purity or a higher purpose (God, etc). A rajasika person would direct it towards competition, desire fulfillment, pleasure. A tamasika person would probably direct it in a similar way as rajasika but even more destructive. The issue is that gunas are constantly changing. So in a person, the gunas are changing-one moment they may be satvika, the next tamasika. The way I approach this is to take a concept (ex. Love, divorce, debate, career etc) and then ask how does each of the gunas act with this?

      tamasic man isnt attracted to women at all, all he wants is to take some alcohol or drugs and sleep.
      attraction to woman is a trait of rajas. so if man is attracted to woman it means he is rajasic to some extent. actually all people have all 3 gunas in different proportions.

I’ve seen people meditate while doing this repetitive hand movement where both hands come together pinky’s together and alternate to pointer finger/thumbs together. Back and forth kind of making a circle with the hands. Do you know what this is called? I want to learn more about it.

      In ayurveda it is writen, ah every gunas are neede, like in video, but the key is in the right proportion. it is writen (i do not know exactly by who, if it is chakara) that right proportion in human being is 70 % sattvic, 20 % rajastic and 10 % tamasic. Also your opinions might be true, but to start with all three gunas, are gunas, they aren't attributed to anything, infact how its worded tells you that. So we put it to use, like metaphor, we make use of it. So sure ghee can be sattvik and heavy in ur opinion, its ur use of it.

      If you pay close attention, this is knowledge directly out of the Sankhyakarika, not your conception of the purpose of the three gunas. I suggest you also read the Kapila portion of the Bhagavatapurana. Yes, sattva must predominate; however, the three Gunas function together, so one cannot completely remove rajas and tamas as even saints need to move and sleep. Good luck.

Isvarakrsna is said to the the author and there are many commentators: Vacaspati Misra, Gaudapada, etc. You must clearly do research as the very texts you cite are highly related to this text.
