hi there, You actually need the GNS3 VM if you want to install virtual machines, most especially if you want to build a virtual network for your LAB test. Well, some say, we can install virtual machines on hypervisors like VMWare which is possible, but they cannot build a mid-huge network.

hi there, you need to install first GNS3 client before installing GNS3 VM, you cannot install VM without client. 😉
