The first part of this clip reminded me of a work colleague who unfortunately knocked himself unconscious due to working in a false ceiling without a helmet. It was a telephone exchange and the upper floor was solid concrete !! You produce very informative videos - thanks.
Jordan nails it with his hiring every time, 6 months to a year and Reuben will be smashing Bundy and CJRs apprentices. And he’s more charismatic from day 1
TBH good on you for sticking with it - in my day I would have walked away. I couldnt bring myself to leave VIR live and this was in the 80s. Saying that, Circuit protection is better now also.
Polystyrene tiles were never actually outlawed, as they’re only (really) dangerous when painted with gloss paint by well meaning but ultimately incorrect DIYers. People just don’t use them anymore.
I personally wouldn't have touched that house with a barge pole. EICR first and the outcome would have been a rewire. If the customer doesn't want a rewire, then walk away. I'd rather sleep well at night knowing i hadn't put my name to that.
From the original board change, how were you able to issue an electrical installation certificate if the property was not safe with non compliant ZE readings and failing insulation resistance readings?
I agree. An install cert doesn't have codes attached and to install a new board everything has to be satisfactory it's not an EICR. Once your in it if the customer won't pay it's down to you at least that's what Ray Waterhouse told me on my first assessment in 2006 with the NIC. You touched it last, you are liable. This should have been agreed before or not started. Good luck with the customer signing the danger report if not, it's on you. No one should touch jobs like and leave them unsafe. This is a typical scenario where I would say to the customer you need to do x y & z and another contractor says no we can just do y and they win the job and you look like your ripping them off.
My main concern wouldnt be the vir cable it would be the polystyrene ceiling tiles they are highly inflammable, drip scalding hot and release toxic gas takes on little spark
that is the problem with reno's you basically have to rewire the whole place doing a halve arsed job is still a half arsed job at the end of the day, fixing patch-ins is fine though if you aren't actually fixing the faults properly then it is a bad policy of repair to a point and not fix it...
Tbf you’ve got tncs, a full rcbo board, as long as bonding etc is up to scratch and the fittings aren’t metal it’s not really that unsafe. You’ve done the best you can under the circumstances you’ve been dealt
Sounds like its an old person who may have limited funds or may not cope with having the house turned upside down , look at the wardrobes hardboard dors courtsy lights all 1960's style , same with decor , the polystyrene ceiling tiles are 1960's
You would probably be arguing against someone saying its been working like that for the last 40 years so I'm not going to turn the house upside down now!
@@nickhickson8738 Probably is my daughters bought one recently similar to that full of VIR cable everything works , still amazingly getting good readings on insulation . Will be getting rewired in the future
As an Australian watching this now, I can tell you your accent is rubbish. It sounded more like a New Zealand accent than Australian . Lucky you're videos are entertaining in other ways, so can forgive the odd cringe moment.
If that house burns to the ground you lads will be in trouble .... I wouldn't of touched this as you could disturb that rubber and make it worse. Why wasn't a eicr done before you changed the CU. For a well known TH-cam electrical business this looks like amateur hour.
I took my meter readings today and noticed my meter intermittently speeding up and slowing back down despite knowing there is virtually nothing on in the house. I tried isolating various circuits and found the circuit labelled "Outside Lights" to be causing it despite there being no outside lights on! Any ideas what would cause that?

Great to see Lee settling in nicely with youtube following him round. Great job guys.
Great job done under difficult circumstances. Thumbs up to the DNO for finally providing a safe earthing arrangement.
Thanks
some of the best electrical content on youtube. interesting content. great editing.
Yeah I agree mate between him and Nagy I think
Thanks a lot
Great to see Lee far more chilled with the guys and camera now!
Thanks yeah he is getting in the groove!

Full rewire lads or walk away bloody nightmare cheers for the video
good to see the team working to gether trying to to resolve all the isuse , Cory , Reuben and Now Lee jelling together . keep up the good work guys
Thanks a lot!
Genuinely enjoying every video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks

Top job chaps..enjoying some honest opinions under some challenging situations 👏👌
Have you ever seen VIR cable in Cappin and casing ,which is a wooden trunking with two channels for the live and neutral?
Sounds a lot like in the states the knob and tube lines I'm in the northeast and run into it constantly including my rentals for the past 30 yrs lol
I have but wasn't in use, just been left in the floor.
I did on a job a few years back, they even trunked all the cables in the loft with wooden trucking. It was exquisite
Worked in a house in Northampton that had original dc wiring under the floors bare wires on porcelain insulators stretched between the joists
Great job... watching from Italy..

People just don’t use them anymore.
Good tip for all sparks, if u can’t get to a certain area video with flash on to see what’s going on
Well done the 3 of you.
Brilliant lad spark now for 35 years 👏 still learn from u chaps stay safe 👍
Thanks 👍
Would it be worth installing an AFDD on the downstairs lighting circuit, as a precaution in case the VIR further degrades?
We did a rewire in a bungalow in Staffordshire 30 years ago and the company had chocoblocked VIR and Twin and called it a rewire. How do people sleep?
Wow that’s awful
As a spark myself I have to say - Cory's Aussie H20 Just Add Water impression made the video.
Thanks
With quinetic you need a different receiver for dimming. The switches are the same (at least the newer retractive ones)
That switch board location is nightmare fuel haha
Is it £80+vat per hour per man? If so, not a surprise Jordan isn’t about anymore I guess he’s in the Caribbean on his yacht 🤔
19:25 Looks like we've found Lee's hidden talent as a director 😎
Yeah what a great shot!
Lee can I have a link to your headlights on the van they are sickk
Does anyone know what the work trousers Cory wears? Cannot find them anywhere, cheers in advance
Bläklader
Really good content, enjoyed that.
What is the black stuff you use as grommet strip , I know Cory has mentioned it at some point but can’t find it
it's car door trim
Always good viewing.
Cheers

Hey ask Jordan what the speed limit is on the M11, and did the Aston Martin leave him standing 😁 great channel by the way👍👍

Indeed please explain how you changed a CU and only found out it was vr after.....don't you guys so eicr before a CU change ?
info on reciever and smart switch please??
Quinetic from TLC
Nice content as always! :)
I pissed myself when you explained Jordan’s hidden talent.
Makes my house look good !
My main concern wouldnt be the vir cable it would be the polystyrene ceiling tiles they are highly inflammable, drip scalding hot and release toxic gas takes on little spark
In this guy situation I would use indoor conduit it can be done nicely without tearing the house apart.

Have a drink every time anyone says "literally"
I have seen you in stevenage this morning. Do you live in here ?
Shhh we don't talk about Stevenage LOL

Button location is the job of an apprentice. A true master knows not only where but what type. Go forth and point the finger of justice....
Teeny tiny earth rods we have to pound 8ft rods in US 6ft apart minimum.
Great video
I'm curious how old you guys are ?
11:05 😆😆😆
Oi oi. This little 2 core cable went to market.
Next Cory can try a South African accent.
But which one? There are so many!
Where has Ruben gone?
Please, Please stop the background music while people are talking
Why don’t they just have a full rewire and it sorts it all out
Tell you what Cory, your Spanish is more convincing than your Aussie! How is that even a thing? 😂 🤣 😂
Rewire !
What is VIR ?
Vulcanised Indian Rubber (cable)
LOL TH-cam wants to translate your comment to English.
What is FOR? It says.
Probably thinks its in Afrikaans.
If only they used UK rubber in old cable. Buy cheap….. buy twice 😂
Fuck sake. Croydon. Literally _anything_ could happen 🤬
Lee's Gigantor right-tatted arm looks dead good, though.
Upvoted for Nando's alone.
VIR is the future
Will the little guy fit in the gap 🤣
Sorry Cory, doesn't sound Aussie to me bud _(Aussie here!)_ 14:50 😂
More like New Zealand. Not very much like New Zealand but more like New Zealand.
Hey 👋🏼
The key is off
My mate does the exact same with nipples😂😂
Why can’t a re wire be done? Am I missing something 😂

@@paulf2529 i say try to find a code a owhat it call when you have to fix the probme if it realy look too unsafe
The elderly customer cannot bear the hassle of moving out and having his house ripped to pieces to rewire it.

Hey Cory that’s a nz accent not Australian ..
What a nightmare
if its no broke dont fix it lol ;)
Unfortunately Cory you can’t do an Aussie accent.
Cleo no
"Well old"........
That house needs gutting.

House bashers

Hopefully the resident signed a statement to agree that he was aware of the potential danger, etc.
