  • On this episode of NABA Perspectives we speak to Chipokota Mwanawasa, Policy Advisor to the President of Zambia and Deputy Head of The Zambian President’s Delivery Unit, about the country's recent economic turnaround. We explore what is driving Zambia's economic revival, and what the future holds for the country, which is fast becoming an important investment destination in Southern Africa.

Good interview with our knowledgeable & articulate young lady of what is going on & is expected under HH’s administration. When we say that Zambia is currently in good hands, this is partly what we have in mind. Thanks

You people all we need is implementing them, you can articulate them nicely and sound as though we're heading somewhere and yet not, in Bemba we say, "uwakwenda ubushiku bamutasha nga bwacha" meaning we can not appreciate anything that is on paper no matter how good it may sound but that which we're able to see and touch anyway.

This girl is a theorist. We have more experienced people who can take up that position but the problem we are now facing systematic tribalism in these appointment. HH is a let down many youths are disillusioned in the current government.

Her introduction says it all, she can't bite a finger that feeds her, but deep down she's knows that they have failed miserably.
The only thing they've highly achieved is talking and blaming others.

Chipo i guess you're an upcoming leader having known you as kid but please advise the President on regional grouping set up in government and public institutions that is being much pronounced by concerned citizens which he may not be aware off .The investment in the mining sector has attracted allegations in particular Mopani which is being connected to himself as Chief Marketing Officer of personal interest and his friends which has not been refuted officially. These are key determining factors of the next election results if not clearly handled.

Now this is really high level and that's the reason I would suggest that such is brocken down to a far simpler layman's language and explained to the land common man at the grass roots. This is what grassroot leaders such as Ward Counsellors should be tasked to explain the the common ward membres. The Ward officials aught to have a quarterly action plan along with a reporting template for which they will be held accountable. As it is now, there is a blinder between the decision makers and the people being decided for. We really need a 2 way communication system. The electorate need feedback on the progress that is being made on a regular basis. That way they will not be manipulated by a few unscrupulous and greedy individuals. Accountability should be transparent and easily visible. No matter how well a job is done, is equal to zero work done as long as it is not reported back to the requeter in this case, the electorate who are in the dim.

Guys come on let's not placate, the policies are good on paper but we ain't seeing fruition of the policies, so all I can see is all the guys in government are good speakers but they can't implement, it is sad we are riddled by such individuals, the rigidities haven't been unlocked the pricing of goods for investment are stagnant, the beauracracy is still there, I wish there was a 3rd party which can interject than her just rumbling.

Let me come in, high prices isn't something which the government has over looked.. the Government except the critic on that, but firstly the policies have to be put in place some have to pass through parliament which takes time. The Job done on the mining sector isn't something to belittle, that will change the economy and looking at the inflation rate, the GDP Zambia it shows that the government is working, so sad that climate change altered our rainfall patten which has affected on agriculture, we the confidence the investors get to have and bring their money that will hugely impact the cost of living by seeing the prices going down. So yes prices aren't okay now but work is being done making a good base so that the full structure built will be strong

@@remyarts847 Regardless of the the mining sector starting to run there is a mess at KCM sources say that due to HH's poor timing to re open the mines there is close to 6 Billion USD in mining expenses at ko nkola deep and vendata is broke. Every government has had good policies but the implementation is little to be desired. Sometimes I blame us Zambians for the people we elect. Let's wait and see the 3rd year is elapsing , we don't have a viable health sector, agricultural sector sector and mining sector, so let's wait and see, they promised they would do better but I can't see it.

@@remyarts847 the economy is something that is an enigma as long as government intervention isn't so strong rigidities in prices of commodities will still there in the free market economy. That's why I thought the government would invest in manufacturing and local investment, but it's like we can't do it us Zambians we need foreign aid. In my opinion the government is a huge let down. They have failed to handle KCM, they talk about giving the mining investors leeway from paying tax to enable them to grow investment all these policies are bad in the long run.

@@kamindwasikazwe1560 the mine was given a holiday from paying tax not that they won't be paying tax always, the President has called on upon people local people to bring ideas and the government will see how it can support , but as citizens we don't want to think big and challenge, we are used to being employees than employers or founders. But need to be implemented otherwise it's empty talk.

And Norway is not a leading country in EV Technologies, they have instead been quick to promote the use of EV through huge government subsidies.
But china is on Top when we talking about Ev Technologies. BYD a Chinese EV car maker actually have surpassed Tesla as the leading EV manufacture. And it's just one among other huge Chinese car companies.

You are the one talking about division, the first step is to remove the tribal details on our IDs. All those who live in Zambia are Zambians first and then their tribe.
The articulated everything wonderfully, though I wished we moved away from mining and invested heavily in agriculture and the production of finished goods in all areas of our economy.
We need to awaken our research and development technologies and expand our IA and IOT field. That is the future.
