After serving as a long-time opposition leader, incoming Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent electoral victory - as well as his winning coalition of opposition parties, civil society organizations and broad public support - stand in sharp contrast to the growing threats to democracy seen in other parts of Africa and globally. But as he assumes governing responsibilities, President Hichilema will need to immediately address several urgent economic, regional and COVID-related challenges while also making headway on his long-term plans to fight corruption, strengthen democratic values and ensure protections for human rights and civil liberties. How President Hichilema balances these priorities will have a major effect on future peace and stability in both Zambia and the region.

There is a peace, love, civility, kindness of heart and community in the country of Zambia that perhaps is unique in the world. However it has been kept locked up for quite a few years, imprisoned by corruption, poverty and authoritarianism. Every time I hear President Hichilema speak, hope wells up in my spirit, imagining what Zambia could be with the prison bars removed. I pray that this intelligent, educated, God-fearing man, who has genuinely suffered and yet persevered will keep his hand to the plough and not look back. Oh that we could develop Zambia for all, through a conscious inclusion, participation and true partnership with those who love Africa and Africans and not just those who want to abuse the country for what it has to offer them. Oh that we could stop trying to copy the failed policies of the 'developed world' and realise that in many ways Zambia is a paradise that needs socio-economic policies arising from an African reservoir instead of a western/sino cesspit. The utterly inappropriate inclusion of Communist China in the life of Zambia is something that has to be brought to a halt as soon as possible. We are part of the Commonwealth and not just another region of China. I pray that Ba President will pay attention to the depth of resources available in the Commonwealth and turn the tide of new Chinese neo-colonialism. The President has a heart. He has a God. He has love. He has a soul. Fill in the gaps for yourself of what the Chinese don't have. Ba President, my President, stay fit, healthy, rested, and may God keep you safe and secure in a world that may soon turn against you. As Oliver Cromwell once said 'Trust in God and keep your gunpowder dry'.
Zambia is a leading country when it comes to strong uniting policies. It's citizens loves to make sure they go in the same undustanding and take over.. I did my primary schooling in Zambia and I knw what d country holds as it's strength

It was better both for my country and the rest of the world when Trump was president. As an American, I recognize Hichilema and PLO Lumumba as black conservatives. Devolution sounds like federalism. Already the IMF is stabbing Hichilema in the back. They want him to raise the taxes. Thomas Sowell said that economics is a dismal science. Now they want to shoot the economist and apply the acid. I am from Uganda, I pray someone shares this video with our president who believes no one else but him can lead Uganda after 35 years and runs the state like a sole proprietorship. Our debt situation is out of hand, Corruption is at its worst and the constitution gets molested every now and then.

South African opposition parties must learn from this, iam a private political analyst. The ANC discovered its strength by incouraging for people to open their political parties to weaken the strong opposition parties. As long as there is division by having alot parties with the help of a discouraged youth in the country when it comes to voting. Then the ANC is xpected to be ruling for a long time.. It was great to follow live conversation with His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, a long-time Zambian opposition leader, now incoming President following his recent electoral victory.The event provided an honorable opportunity to learn lessons from Hichilema's and selected experts' valuable views on Democracy Strengthening in Zambia and Accross Africa, and particularly how to avoid a backslide in Democracy in Africa as it was recently noticed in West Africa in Chad, Mali, Guinea. My concern is how to share this wonderful high-level conversation with the Heads of State of the Africa region, mainly those of West Africa sub-region. I really appreciate this event and seize the opportunity to thank the USIP administration, the panel of experts, the moderator and His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia for the conversation.

Finally, Zambia HAS a thinking president. Her people have the right, the freedom to think, be innovative, and with the President's leadership, move this otherwise wealthy nation to the next step - to become a mid-income nation that will provide social benefits equitably. Democracy is the fuel that ignites development, avoids violence, brings a sense of belonging to all citizens, irrespective of their ethnic composition. "The people must be at the center..." (Bally).
Totally agree! He is by FAR the most brilliant president in Zambia and most likely in south and central Africa.

Messy bringing in Rwanda but they did inspire change we should see on the continent and so did Ghana 😆 I am sure more upcoming leaders can copy and paste this better approach to rebuilding 🌍 one country at a time.
