Looking forward to part 2. The "rooms of a house" alternative desktop gave such a nostalgia hit haha (and I've never seen it before). When everything today is distilled to the same fundamental designs you can't help but remember back when digital spaces were fun and different just because they could be. Thanks for sharing this stuff with us man!
LG stands for "Lucky Goldstar" It's the exact same company. They decided to rebrand with the slightly less Korean sounding name in the late 90's. Back in the day, I gambled on the X2 modem standard, as it was a bit more technically advanced than the K56Flex standard. I was upset when it lost out. But then the Modem manufacturer released a firmware update for the new standard, and all was well and I had the new v.90 speeds. That's an interesting machine, I don't believe we had that particular model here in the states. Packard Bell was pretty well going downhill here by late '98 as they'd achieved a "reputation"
Cool, I had no idea, always wondered where goldstar went. I vaguely remember v90 coming out, not sure what I had at the time. I always remember not thinking much of packard bell, I dont think they really hit europe until later and were a chain store kind of pc. It's still a nice kind of home office machine and seems pretty well made.
The new name "Lucky Goldstar" (and later, LG) is the result of a merger of Goldstar and Lucky Chemicals in the 1990s. Both companies had already been parts of the same conglomerate which used both the ""Lucky" and "Goldstar" brands separately before.
A bit of info, LG stands for Lucky Goldstar. It is simply a rebranding of the same company in South Korea. As just Goldstar they had a bit of a bad reputation for quality, hence the rebranding
Cool. I never knew! I always wondered where goldstar went, used to see goldstar a lot when I first started getting into pc's back in the day and they just vanished! Now I know😁
nice vid, love that monitor "ring" on the top. on no a flex modem! is that velcro on the back of the mb? unimpressive ram amount. it looks great inside.
Thankyou! Yes nice round clean patch on top😁. Wasn't velcro, it was a bit of adhesive foam, guess to hold the board in place when it was first screwed in.
Nice! I have a Packard Bell with a Cyrix MII as well.. and... yeah... I saw your X comment, I am with you 🤣. I feel that Packard Bell's life in the USA got cut short, for better or for worse! I personally have four Packard Bells in my collection.
Cool, they are nice machines just not very flexible. I have 2 others too and I like them all but not really for gaming. I loved the style with the monitor speakers and software stuff.
A voodoo banshee would have a given similar performance for the most part probabaly, It made quake playable. I guess it depends what you were doing and what you were playing. I never played fps games so might not have noticed so much when I was playing civ and the like.
it would be interesting to see this computer compared to the pentium mmx 233 mhz, something tells me that the pentium would be the winner, even if the lower frequency is not taken into account
The "Face of Technology" PB logo is forever my favorite
Yes its cool and iconic!

Thanyou for check8ng it out! Yes it was all very experimental and creative back then as new tech came in. Hopefully get part 2 done today.

I love the stickers from that Era with all the specs and other blurb on!
A Dream early windows/late dos machine :)
Me too, got a couple of machines with them, emachines did it a lot as well😁
That Packard Bell is making me jealous! lmao
Its a nice one!

we had a similar spec super 7 machine. i seem to recall we stuffed a voodoo banshee in there and managed to make do for quite some years!

Interesting retro PC. With the Voodoo2 I’m sure it will very well run early 3D games from 1996-1998.
Yes I think so. Struggled with fpu intensive stuff, unplayable with out the voodoo but playable with (just) 😁

Yes, alas I dont have one but will be comparing it to a 200 in part 2
@@66mhzbrain дякую (thank you)
Was my first computer.
Coo, nice machine😁
My family’s first PC! We didn’t hold on to ours unfortunately. Would love to pick one up someday 🙂
Cool, they do seem to crop up fairly often, so you may. They're nice machines, I'm happy to have found it!
just for your info, LG and Goldstar are the same company (LG is the abbreviation of Lucky Goldstar)
Haha, yes, everyone's telling me that, never knew!
This was my second pc I no longer have it but I have it's heart at least I kept the cpu 😂
Haha, at least you have something to remember it by😁
