Raiden III is a game that can be described as 'the awkward transition between old Raiden and new Raiden'. You have a tiny hitbox and the bombs are more like actual smartbombs now. Enemies also shoot directly at you from all angles now, instead of just a select few. This is quite fundamentally different to what Raiden was about. They didn't quite figure out yet how to bring Raiden into a more modern shmup format until Raiden IV. Raiden III is probably the weakest entry in the series as a result. The stage- and boss design is pretty lackluster. The music is also pretty weak apart from the first and last stage and maybe the boss music. The game is also fairly easy for a Raiden game and doesn't even loop. Lastly you go to space in stage 4 which is outrageous.
The purple missiles are by far the best in this game. They do ultra-mega damage.
There are two secret extends in this game. There is one in stage 3 if you destroy all the cranes. The other is in stage 6 if you destroy all the rotating turrets on the tower. The easiest way to do this is to switch to the blue laser.
For scoring in this game they introduced speedkills. If you kill an enemy immediately you get x 2.0, this number decreases the longer the enemy is on screen.

The first time you get the green weapon you finish the game. Damnit. Not a chance of seeing that.

i'd restart in frustration if i'd die on st2 boss, but you carried on and beat the game, nice.
I also think he should have used his bombs, i have this problem too... :s
somehow that 3d intro is a lot cheesier than the attemp they made back in raiden project.
Not a bad game but all of his errors are resolved in Raiden IV what i think is one of the best of the saga

Lots of the bullets in the game are way more intimidating than they actually are. Knowing when to tap dodge and which weapons to use is enough to wipe out the bosses.

Btw, where does the hitbox usually lie on both ships? I know it is somewhere in the middle below the cockpit unless I am wrong.
I like this game, the lack of looping is probably the worst part of it, but it's still harder than a 1-All of Raiden IV i guess. Oh and the lack of horizontal scrolling is also weird.

maybe raiden 3 was made by moss to do warmups... before making a greater raiden project comebacks... raiden IV seemed a great successor

Cool, a Cyber Front port. They also did Raiden II and Darius Gaiden waybackwhen (late 90s I think). How does this version compare to the one you can buy off Steam?
EDIT: Sikraiken just informed me that the speed changes ONLY occur in single player sessions, but so far I am only seeing speed differences between the ships in Raiden DX.
Yo Jaimers, just wanted to run by you real quick I tested this out on the original Steam version and both ships moved at the same speeds in all directions, at least at the very beginning of a run. I'm visiting the different Raiden games and ports right now to figure out which games truly have different movement between the two ship sides. There's not some weird thing like the ships changing speed based on power up level or anything like that is there?
Yeah it's probably old farm misinformation that bled through here, I removed that line from the description.
Why does this franchise insist on difficult to see bullets? The only result you get from that is surprise deaths which is pretty unfun.

I think 1P has better horizontal movement while 2P has better vertical movement speed

逆に昔のドット絵雷電の方がいいんだよね..苦笑。背景がムーヴする事じたいは..とてもいいけど..プレイヤーの意図する自機のムーヴメントによつての連動性..その遠近的な動きじゃなきゃ不自然感ばかりが目立つんだよね苦笑。ドット絵の..敵ガジェットが壊れて行く様..その経過過程のグラフィックスにこそ..雷電ファンとしては..よりこだわりを見せてほしかった..というのがあるんだよね苦笑。ゲーム性というのは言ってみりゃ..プレイヤーが..現実世界では弱い(戦士)でも..ゲーム内世界では強者を駆逐していく..言ってみりゃそうした世界を具体的に描くべきなんだよね? 苦笑
