@axiomsofdominion yeah it’s this kind of assumption that leads to disappointment. Civ 7 is definitely looking a lot better than Ara is and I love Ara and hope it succeeds. We need to see more from Civ 7 before you hurt someone with your pitchfork.
@axiomsofdominionThe game is 6 months from release and they have shown minimum game play so far. How can you give it even a grade yet unless you know something everyone else doesn’t.
Sorry after watching the Civ 7 gameplay reveal and invested thousands of hours since Civ 1....Ara History Untold looks way more in-depth (organic borders, millenia-style battles, 30 leaders) and can take my money!
Yeah I've been playing since the first, eventhough I have them all, I still only play CIV4. Until they bring back unit stacking I'm going to pass on CIV7. Nothing better than stacking 40 mech infantry on one hex that's sits on a railroad connected to all your enemies. That's another thing I hate about the new CIV games, you get punished for building roads and railroads it's the exact opposite in CIV4. I kinda wish that has a classic CIV setting that allowed you to play the new games with old rules.
@txDDS I never played 4 but imagine my reaction going from civ 5 all dlc with workers going to builders and districts. I also really don't like civic and miss the standard culture policy tree. Not they go from like 7 ages down to 3. I couldn't finish 1 game of 6.
Looks very promising, but I hope they make cities denser. Having skyscrapers separated by a teeny tiny street and literal patches of grass doesn't make much sense
Agreed, the houses, roads, structures need to be much denser. Every tile looks like a low-density suburb. Perhaps they can make several models, based on how many of the adjacent regions are claimed? That way, the centre would naturally look denser, and the outlying sectors less dense. That would look great
are they even randomly generated? Because if they are prerendered, then hexes will be fine for long time. Even without it, I still prefer hexes because I like symetry.
Okay so, for a split few moments during the opening cinematics, I thought I was seeing a Rise of Nations 2 or something. Wow. This looks very interesting and I will be watching this game's career with great interest! Subbed!!
At a glance this looks amazing and feels more like it captures the "epic" scale. I love the art style at a glance. Calling the game "Ara" may be a hard sell though, because nothing about the title or branding excites me. It's going to be an uphill battle to make random casuals decide they want to pick up a game called "Ara" instead of something called "Civilization." Even "Humankind" sold itself pretty well with a title that was self-explanatory. I'll probably be buying this though as a fan of the genre.
Idk, when all the other similar games have titles like "civilisation", "millennia" and "humankind" having a name like Ara will definitely make it stand out and memorable. It seems like its trying to be different so we will see how it works out.
They just have to make a good game and you already have the 4x fans across the board buying it. But yeah I agree, that's the weirdest name they could come up with. ARA.. what does it even mean? Sounds unrelated to a civ game.
I love the detail on the map and seeing birds and wild animals roaming around. Small immersive stuff like that helps the map feel alive and shows a breathing world. Now we need a game like this with dynamic weather
What really impresses and excites me here is the sense of scale provided by the graphics. In 4X/Civ-style games, it's always been a given that you can't take the size of units relative to buildings literally. Otherwise, you end up realizing that the soldiers running around the map are apparently Godzilla-sized, which tends to be anti-immersive. I've always been willing to accept this because the only real alternative seemed to be making the units too small for many people to see and control effectively even at very close zoom levels. In fact, my one major misgiving about Civ 7 is that something about the art style makes it just a little harder for me personally to suspend my disbelief in that regard. It almost feels like a kind of uncanny valley, as if the improved realism of the units and buildings in isolation just puts the lapses in relative scaling into sharper focus. From what I've seen of Ara, they seem to have quite successfully circumvented this issue entirely by not even trying to be realistic at any but the closest zoom levels. Instead, it looks like units are moved and otherwise manipulated via more two-dimensional icons, and the more high-fidelity, three-dimensional animations are only visible at sufficiently close zoom, and even then, they can only be passively observed and not directly controlled. I'm cautiously optimistic about this approach, as it just might produce the first 4X/Civ-like game where you actually can take the visuals more-or-less literally without breaking your immersion!
Ooooo thought this was another video about civ but this is a whole new game! Leader art is so much better than civ 7, excited to see more of this game 👏🏻

Fully disagree. Been playing these games since Civ 1, I'd much rather have an icon than some guy (or rather some woman now, with wokness) standing there scratching themselves with their spear while idle. Adds nothing to the game for me. I have Skyrim Super modded or Cyberpunk 2077 for graphics, I just want gameplay from these. Also, during battle you do have animated units, just on the map screen they are icons. That is much better IMO.
I like what I saw. If the combat is any good then CIV may have some serious competition. Although, the short clip of combat featured, looked ludicrous.
The game gives me the feel of more micromanagement, which greatly slows down the pace of the game. Not saying it won't be good, but it quickly turns into a second job and not a second past time.

I just want a new 4X game where the leaders are either attractive, funny, or very interesting, and where there is a backdrop (like in Civ 5) when you interact with them. Beyond that, the game can be whatever tbh.
This game looks very promising, like a real new Civ as it would be developed by genuine Civ players. But it still doesn't get the attention it derserves.

A little note regarding sound: As you're rotating through the leader selection screen at the beginning of the video, your voice, the game narrator's voice, and the game music all compete. This makes it harder to hear you, and I'm not sure where my attention should go.
After the reveal of Civ 7, I'm actually looking forward to ARA more. Looks gorgeous. I was a little sad that Civ7- the districts are gone and if you pick American at the beginning, you have to pick someone else later and the game might force you to end it. Bummer. I'll still keep an eye on it but not sure if I will pre-order.
Really like it ! Small thing ^^ do the foreign leaders speak during diplomatic exchanges ? Their lips seem moving but I did not hear their voices … also how battle are resolved finally ? And siege ? any news ?
Raptor on Ara: "So kinda think of them as like babarians. They are kinda neutral, but if you go near them, they will attack" Meanwhile Civ 6: "WE HAVE SPOTTED THE ENEMY CITY! SEND THE MESSAGE TO THE BABARIAN CAMP, AND RALLY A CONVOY TO ATTACK THEM!!!"
Very intrigued by what I've seen so far! Kinda sad that his big formation of spearmen were going to slaughter that poor mamma polar bear and her two cubs at 43:03. 😱
So my main take away is that as the acts progress (3 acts with 12 ages between them) the worst preforming civs collapse into ruins. Leading there to be only a handful of superpowers to duke it out at the end.
@@Ericshadowblade I feel this collapse of the weakest nations is actually quite unnecessary. Possibly I will have stopped a game anyways when I am in single player that terrible, but why would we just have 4 super powers in the end? Maybe one has an alliance with a smaller nation, which is still useful and then... it is gone. I always liked how Alpha Centauri presented it that a vassal state was basically also a winner... junior partner. That there are really just 4 nations left feels extreme. More like some sports tournament. But we will see if it is fun playing it. Certainly unique.
This looks really good. I'm really liking the world details and tile design. I prefer these leader portraits compared to Civ 6, not a big fan of the cartoony looks, but don't hate them either. Would really like to play a demo though before buying it, still not sure on the game mechanics, especially the combat. Looks interesting though.
I wish some game took the old "Black & White" concept, into a game like these. You don't play any actual civilization, but you aid them in creation. Crafting the whole world, to a point. The final result of the "world", summed-up and simplified, in the end. Then you move back in time, or continue in time, on a new "world", in your system. Ultimately, with DLC and expansions, the game advances to something more like a space-trade civilization of worlds. This looks like a nice break away from the prior games of civilization, without being a total duplication or being too far gone. Though the "rulers" almost seem a bit too similar. I'd really love to see them break away from the whole historic aspect in these games. I always find it odd that we have america playing right along with ancient egypt. Neither of them actually being time-appropriate or true. (Egyptians conquered the lands and people, taking the things that were built by other civilizations, as if they built them themselves. Americans, present day ones, had done almost the same thing, but didn't claim to have built anything. They just destroyed everything that was built, or left it to rot and crumble.)
I think they wanted to keep a lot of this development under wraps. If this is pulled off, they will without a doubt siphon off Civ players and may not want Civ devs to take ideas. Civ devs seem to have latched onto some features from Humankind so there's def room to believe it could have happened. I'm excited to get my hands on this especially if its a full release. No early access crap.
I really like the look and feel of this. Have it pre-ordered. Can’t wait to play it. (A little less excited about Civ7, but I’ll probably still get it and test it out. I like 4X and they all have a little something different that’s enjoyable.)
Is there a civ game where the tech tree depends on the resources available and NOT an abstract "science" or "research" points? That way diplomacy or conquest would actually makes sense
Ive had my eye on this game for awhile and im very excited. Im glad its coming soon also bc i think it does just enough differently from civ to really establish itself in the space
This definitely looks better than Civ 7, and I've pre-ordered it to support the devs. But, likely won't play it until mod support and we get a true starting location earth map as that is the only map I ever play on. Until then, I'll stick to my heavily modded Civ 6, and will eagerly await the mod support.
Just pre-ordered the premium addition, seeing as it's exactly what i was hoping to see in civ 7 at a fraction of the cost, on and its 10% off on steam currently to boot
Gameplay of leader > “historicity” of leader. Fucking lame ass mfs getting so upset about women. Do these basement dwlers just have their pants fly off them when they see a female in their strategy game?
The worse part is it looked better in the very early videos and screenshots, I bet those old images/textures are still in the game and can be easily replaced
as Civ7 is going the automated play route to put quick games on autoplay with very few things to do per round for MP purposes...a new competitor can take the crown this/next year for those who want deeper challenges.

i think thats just the downside of the artstyle, if you zoom in the little dudes are on the map but they have the token so its more readable
This is the direction I wish Civ 7 had taken
This so far from the identity of civilization
The game gives me the feel of more micromanagement, which greatly slows down the pace of the game.
Not saying it won't be good, but it quickly turns into a second job and not a second past time.
At least art-wise, it looks better than Civ7 right now.
@@thaliatherasdotter9175 -- Art style can only take you so far. After you play hundreds of hours, people don't care so much about the art and more about the playability.
@@plamenneykov2512This was what Civ was before it became casualized.
I've been waiting for this game since its first teaser, can't wait to play it
Was looking for civ7 game play. Algorithme proposed this instead and i m sold.
This game looks damm impressive and everything i wanted out of a civ game.
This will get my money for sure (this is if my computer can run this 😅)
I just want a new 4X game where the leaders are either attractive, funny, or very interesting, and where there is a backdrop (like in Civ 5) when you interact with them.
Beyond that, the game can be whatever tbh.
Wow! LOVE they got Debra Wilson to narrate. I recognized her voice immediately.
She sounds good too. I want to hear more.
This game looks very promising, like a real new Civ as it would be developed by genuine Civ players. But it still doesn't get the attention it derserves.
I saw these exact same comments when Humankind and Old World were coming out lol
@@JorgeM270 Exactly, the trailer instantly gave me the impression that this looks like a Chinese mobile civ ripoff, lets be real this game will almost immediately die on release
4x fans will naturally gravitate toward it, especially so given how poorly Civ7 was received
looks like humankind but has so much more from other games like civ, anno, empire earth, europa etc added into it can't wait to give it a shot
someone get the dev some marketing campaigns - this needs to be hyped.
The important question is.. will the ai actually be able to play the game and.. you know, give you a reason to care
I think Ai is good look at score table they are far better than raptor
@@Skyfall8865 I guess being solely focused on score rather than fulfilling specific goals makes it easier for AI. Also the combat is way more simpler so it should be good for AI.
@@mrTannu666 I think numerical superiority will be the biggest factor.
I was very impressed since i saw this game for the first time and seeing this now, i´m even more impressed what they acomplished to develop. I hope they release a stable and optimized produt on launch, i cant wait to see it.... we allways needed options to the genre and this one here seems to be a great plus and a Civilization-series dangerous contender..
The Chinese would use balloons instead of kites for surveillance
Looking like a really fun game there's plenty of room for tons of civ type games, looking like a winner in my opinion great first look man!
From a purely visual perspective, I wish the buildings weren't so far apart. It looks more like a suburb than a historic settlement.
suburbs are packed tight... This looks like someone built a home near where they found most beneficial for them.
A little note regarding sound: As you're rotating through the leader selection screen at the beginning of the video, your voice, the game narrator's voice, and the game music all compete. This makes it harder to hear you, and I'm not sure where my attention should go.
Wow I'm surprisef how much better this seems than Civ7 based on what we're able to see thus far. I really wasnt expecting that.
20:40 I like how you said that they're realistically limiting where the player can go while looking at a polar bear in the desert 😁
And siege ? any news ?
Beautiful graphics and very interesting ideas in the game. Let's hope the concept and mechanics make the game fun and playable.
Raptor on Ara: "So kinda think of them as like babarians. They are kinda neutral, but if you go near them, they will attack"
Meanwhile Civ 6: "WE HAVE SPOTTED THE ENEMY CITY! SEND THE MESSAGE TO THE BABARIAN CAMP, AND RALLY A CONVOY TO ATTACK THEM!!!"
Notice how rivers originate as a small spring in the mountains. I like that attention to detail in map generator
Very intrigued by what I've seen so far! Kinda sad that his big formation of spearmen were going to slaughter that poor mamma polar bear and her two cubs at 43:03. 😱
I feel cheated and robbed. Shohreh Aghdashloo Is not the narrator.
Nice,.. but I hope we see also some later action at one point to have an idea how the concepts of this game can really shine (hopefully).
@@m_hut you can turn it off though
This looks really good. I'm really liking the world details and tile design. I prefer these leader portraits compared to Civ 6, not a big fan of the cartoony looks, but don't hate them either.
Would really like to play a demo though before buying it, still not sure on the game mechanics, especially the combat. Looks interesting though.
21:39 I like how you have a cap on air forces in the stone age.
This honestly looks like a solid middle-ground between 4X/Grand strategy and city-builder. Might actually try this one out when it comes!
Aachen (a tribe on your map) is a twinned with a town that's quite local to me, Halifax.
i might buy this because they put Sappho as the leader of Greece. fantastic call by the devs
The models default animations give big civ rev vibes lol
The only thing that worries me are the combat mechanics. Gonna wait for more playthroughs. Thanks for the upload!
Great informational video and thanks for sharing. Chris
Is there a civ game where the tech tree depends on the resources available and NOT an abstract "science" or "research" points? That way diplomacy or conquest would actually makes sense
I hope it comes soon...looks better than civ 7
why did the choose the wife of a dictator for argentina, its like putting eva braun as a character for germany
I'm both glad and sad it's not civ. We need competition
the opening clips reminded me of Rise of Nations
Just pre-ordered the premium addition, seeing as it's exactly what i was hoping to see in civ 7 at a fraction of the cost, on and its 10% off on steam currently to boot
Curious to see if it will run on a current m2 macbook. Civ 6 plays fantastically and 7 will have a steam/mac release on launch day.
Sapho doesn't really make sense but they are really pushing for it
Gameplay of leader > “historicity” of leader.
Fucking lame ass mfs getting so upset about women. Do these basement dwlers just have their pants fly off them when they see a female in their strategy game?
Digital DEI
Hmm! This actually looks good. Very diverse civs too. I'll wishlist it.
I literally just heard of this game and it's coming out next month? Seems like they aren't doing enough marketing, which is a shame ! Looks amazing !
Ok this is what I was waiting for, actual gameplay. I'm sold!
It's like Anno and Civ had a child
You not settling the forest on the other side of the river is giving me anxiety.
Looks like a cool game. I always wish they would do more of a creative effort with the UI though....
yeah good point. the ui is super important in 4x for the sake of presenting complex information clearly.
First thing I’m doing is modding the awful UI lol
@@CausticSpace Please. This looks horrendous.
The worse part is it looked better in the very early videos and screenshots, I bet those old images/textures are still in the game and can be easily replaced
Looks like this will be the true Civilization game. The mechanics seems pretty realistic, so the immersion will be there. The close-ups look great.
If it weren't for Civ VII which I'm not gonna buy because it sounds terrible I would never have found out about this amazing game
This looks better than Civ 7! & we won't have to change Civs every new age that comes around, right? And will we get more leaders with each update?
As a fan of CIV 2-3-4 looks much better than 6 and coming 7!
as Civ7 is going the automated play route to put quick games on autoplay with very few things to do per round for MP purposes...a new competitor can take the crown this/next year for those who want deeper challenges.
beautiful game, can't wait, Civ7 has serious competition
I just hope they have a full earth map - not like many other publishers forgetting the most basic things. I don´t want to design maps, I want to play on earth map.
This looks/sounds great. I have given up on CIVILIZATION games. FCK em. But this...I will get!
