Australia did a great job with USA in Vietnam. It was a regional balance-of-power issue and upset and the British refused (most likely) because of poor finances, domestic politics and revenge for US anti-Anglo actions in Middle East 1951-1958 and 56' suez. Australia was known as the toughest and did a superb job; they were much more strategic and experienced than US equivalents. Australia has always done the best. Australia is the dominant Major Power in Southern/Central Asia and it posed a Triangle of US-Western Sphere of Influence (Indonesia-Australia-Japan) though later Taiwan and PRC China would be added. Thank You, Australians.

A great story of our soldiers in Vietnam as wives at that time. It is very interesting. Of all what they did for the people. As the soldier would say just doing my job.. Australia should be proud as some soldiers never came home RIP.

Always proud of the vets who fought against Marxists in Vietnam.
If the National Film and Sound Archive is blocking comment on videos they have released those responsible need to be named and sacked.
    And release the damned lot.

Pity we can't put names to some of those blokes, one of the APC commanders shown has a strong likeness to a chap at a military museum I work at, an ex M113 APC commander of two tours, 68 and 71 if I remember correctly. I will make sure he sees this video.

How did you guys decide who kept FNs and who took M16s? Personal choice? How many decided to keep the FN, by rough percentage?

Be great if this was coloured. By the way Australia won it’s war in there, half of it by hearts and minds.

This footage appears to be from the Aussie ABC TV produced 'Diggers in Vietnam' tv shows broadcast in about 1965 or 66. In the Aussie Army in the early 1980s, we were told Aussie infantry in Vietnam did not wear helmets in the J due to helmet's negative affect on being able to detect the direction from which sounds made by the dreaded en (army speak for dreaded enemy) came from. The soft hats the infantry are wearing in the J, we called giggle hats! cos they looked silly! Heard the Yanks call them Boonies.

A War Memorial film. Why they not use colour film for such a descriptive documentary? Relatively common in the Sixties. The. B/W quality looks like ww2 quality. This would fantastic in colour.
