Sprayway good to see that OBS content coming back. Rest in peace to southern Chevy tv. When you did his shortbed that’s what gave me the confidence to body work and spray my truck. But I think raw might be right on 12 inches total to shorten the 9 inch. That will give you that clearance on the bed lip.

This is the kinda build I'm diggin! Don't go over 20's here in the PNW. Roads are rough! 12" shorter would be perfect. Working on a square body myself.

Bout time. Been waiting for this one. Raw right about the 12 although most times it's never the same on both sides. That rear-end must be perfectly centered from factory. Some be 1/2"-5" of difference from what I experienced. I'm sure you gonna have it right tho. You the goat this build is gonna be pressure I can already see it.

You would need a 255/35 to get a similar size sidewall as the 295/30. The second number is a percentage of the width to give the sidewall height. 30% of 295 is 88.5, and 30% of 255 is 76.5. So if you did 255/35 it would be 35% of 255 which is 89.25. Much closer to 88.5. 😁

When you measure for your rearend you have to account for how far the caliper and bracket sits back from the axle flange, a drum brake backing plate is flat which has more room till it contacts the leaf spring. I dont think you have enough clearance to shorten 6 inches per side unless you relocate the leaf springs inbord of the frame.
Best bet to assemble brakes on one side and measure to the leaf spring.

Check the clearance to the frame and inside bed. Make sure you dont have to narrow the frame as well.

I'm guessing 2½ to 3 inches each side maybe. Guys in Miami usually get the rear end shortened 1½ to 2 inch each side and that's for 7 inch lips. Your truck looks so HARD and it's not even painted yet. The Rucci wheels are 🔥🔥🔥, can't wait to see what color you paint it.

Hey @SprayWay ; quick question. What grit bare metal prep do you use for epoxy primer ? I have my 89 Toronado down to bare metal, cut paint off with a purple polymer disk, then smoothed with 80 on a DA, then 120, then 220, and I then did the hood and trunk with 320.. I think that 320 surface may be too slick, and I'm thinking I may need to go back down to 220 or even 180. What do you do to prep for epoxy ?
