One of Canada's largest train bridges stands almost forgotten in New Brunswick

- For 112 years, the Salmon River train bridge has spanned a valley in northwestern New Brunswick, but locals say few in the province would know about it.

Atlantic Canada is so beautiful.
I've lived here in Fredericton for the last two and a half years. I confess it's not the Southern Ontario (London, Toronto) I'm used to or intoxicating like Vancouver or even Calgary.....but it's growing on me. It's very rural, that's for sure but it certainly has its charms.
I’ve walked it, I’ve cross country skid under it and flown over it. Very impressive structure.
As a railfan/ model train enthusiast this is amazing!
This country needs to support more rail travel, invest into rail and shipping more goods by rail.
The auto industry is too powerful... they do everything in their power to diminish the rail industry.

That bridge was completed ahead of schedule and within budget .
I’m from Massachusetts and now live in Georgia. I miss hearing the French Canadian accent.
I have never been here or have ever seen this bridge that I can recall. I have lived in the Gagetown Fredricton area for a few years. I am from Liverpool Nova Scotia and grew up next to a passing train daily and the bridge was the favourite swimming hole on the Mersey River. From that I have always been fond of trains and bridges. It is sad the bridge is not celebrated more.i live in Lethbridge Ab currently and it is commonly referred to as Bridge city by many local businesses. Celebrate your bridge. Use it draw tourists. I can testify to the awe of watching a long train cross over a long trestle bridge.

Surprisingly many such bridges were built over valleys in Britain. Most are now gone. Martin Zero here on TH-cam has had a look at what little remains of some of them, sometimes in remarkably isolated places.
We had a twin rail line going by in my area and for some reason one line got removed..now it's a single rail line remaining. Seems like our infrastructure is falling apart and not being replaced.

Lol not true at all, I lived here my whole life and I know it’s true colors. Everyone is working hard in NB while the job market is pretty poor, and our salary ain’t very good neither so that doesn’t really make us living friendly, if so well it’s a ‘2 face welcome to our shop’ thing

Having moved here from Ontario, I have been surprised by the animosity directed towards me.
Most of the rail track has been turned into walking and running trails. There is two active train tracks still being used by trains. The other one goes to Saint John city

You ought to see the Gavin Creek Bridge in North Dakota. Also Two Medicine Creek bridge in Montana. Engineering landmarks that are scarcely known.
In the 70's, I worked with a Ray Christianson on the south side of Chicago. I may be spelling the name wrong but I wonder if there's any relation.

What is wrong with the title, why is it “almost forgotten?” The video indicates it is used plenty!
The information in this is somewhat incorrect the battle River Trestle located west of Wainwright Alberta was the largest in Canada until the Lethbridge viaduct was built as it was 1400m long the west end of the bridge was made of wood and was filled with dirt and ballast in the 50s to shorten it to 860m. The wooden trestle is still buried today
No, "at the time" in 1911, it was the second next to the Battle River trestle, before the Lethbridge structure was built.
The reason the train runs so frequently across this trestle is because they didn’t ask Irving where to build it, leading to a mess like they have in Saint John with Harbour Bridge

Very cool, however why did we stop building? The Ambassador bridge in Windsor for example, there needs to be second bridge, long over due.

The Ambassador bridge is privately owned (crazy right?) The owner fought any new bridge or crossing tooth and nail because it would cut into his revenue stream!

How don't we have that in Canada from Vancouver to Halifax?
Not enough population.
If Canada made a high speed rail from Van to Halifax that single line would be more km of high speed rail than Japan has made since they started.
Population and country size make direct comparisons tricky.

The idea of one from Van to Halifax is crazy. Calgary to Edmonton in the next 50-100 years maybe, because the terrain is easy, though still unlikely.
