    Actually, releasing the secret records to public for decade actually happened in real life.
    For example, United States' World War II archives (1945) were still highly confidential records that were not officially declassified for public until over a decade later in 1958.

      Which actually explains why war movies released immediately after WW2 were for the most part, totally inaccurate and kinda trash...
      I assume part of it was because they didn't want to offend the actual veterans by telling stories too close to reality so soon after it happened, but at the same time, even when they did attempt it, it wasn't until the mid-late 60s that you actually saw war films even slightly attempt to replicate real life battles and strategies.

      Correction on the 20:00 sin. If the player slowed down, Pixy will attack YOU, not the allies. It caught me off guard when he started shooting me, so I had to try and shoot back with my guns ( since I couldnt lock onto him), but his Wingman AI made it extremely difficult to do that. I was mad and sad simultaneously when I played this for the first time. This guy who made this footage was on full after burner which prevented Pixy from locking onto him, but if you just idle the throttle and simply fly on autopilot, you will see him break formation, get behind you, and THEN start attacking you.

    "Let the victor be justice."
    >Epic line, but it makes no sense.
    In terms of literary meaning, the one who carries out justice is expected to be morally right. Kupchenko wants the victor to be the more virtuous person, as opposed to an archetypal villain who is morally inferior yet more powerful than the hero (considering you're the protagonist wearing the title of Demon Lord, purposely playing up this juxtaposition can refute his epic line). I think the worst possible person to both refute and defeat him is a Demon Lord who is morally bankrupt yet either too lucky or too skilled to die.
    On the flip side, perhaps he WANTS to be defeated, as long as his opponent was someone more influential in the grand design of the universe than himself (thus interpreting Kupchenko as a man with zero regrets).

    • @raindrain1
      @raindrain1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Or more simply- trial by combat, the victor is ex post facto the one who had "justice" on their side. Considering the whole chivalry/arturian mythology theme surrounding the whole game, it's pretty obvious.

    • @alum202
      @alum202 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Perhaps another way to interpret is, whoever the victor is, that person's perception of "justice" will be the one used. Kupchenko's form of justice seems to remove borders with a nuclear weapon. While Cipher's to prevent that.

    The attention to detail is one of the reasons I like Ace Combat. For those that don't know, "Magnum" is a NATO radio call used to announce the launch of an antiradiation missile. Seeing as how the particular missile was visually modeled on the AGM-88 HARM, an antiradiation missile, having AWACS announce Magnum was only partly wrong. But with Cipher being a silent protagonist...

    I really hated how AC Zero ground attack missions end as soon as you get enough points, instead of like in four and five when you had to survive by running out the clock and have fun causing as much damage as possible in the mean time.

    • @SlyAceZeta
      @SlyAceZeta  6 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      RepublicofEthan The counter-argument is that in 04 and 5, you had way more time than necessary to get the point requirement so you end up flying in circles. I can't count how many times I 100% cleared the map in Invincible Fleet.

    First they refer to them as the 101st airborne, now they're recklessly dropping them into hot landing zones in the early morning risking the lives of every trooper.
    This is too close to reality to be a coincidence, there is no way they didn't entirely base this mission on Operation Market Garden.
    Keep in mind, the Belkan War is Strangereal's equivalent to WW2, so the fact they would make such an obvious error in judgement actually kinda makes sense, because in this world there never was an Operation Market Garden or Crete to teach them the hard lessons about parachute operations we learned in real life.
    Also, "left behind" in this context means left in the plane, in other words, if you hesitate, they kick you out of the airborne... not exactly something they'd have to say in a combat jump because all of these guys should be fully trained and prepared for what's coming. But in WW2 during parachute training, if you ever failed to make a jump, you were immediately disqualified from the airborne, some guys got second chances, but usually they were transferred out the moment they showed weakness...

    To answer why the Belkans used nukes rather than offering peace negotiations, the Allied forces were so dominant that the Belkan leaders knew that any peace settlement would likely carve up or otherwise destroy Belka. Therefore they used nukes as a way to gain leverage and preserve their independence, at least in the north. We saw after the war that Osea simply annexed all the Belkan territory they held and had the nukes not stopped the Allied advance then all of Belka could have suffered the same fate. Belka had to agree to disarmament, but AC5 shows us how badly that was enforced since Belka was able to produce the V2 and several squadrons worth of Su-47s and YF-23s. This shows why major nations have nuclear weapons, they are a guarantor of independence even if you lose the conventional war and have no cards to play.

      Megalodon64 Unfortunately I can't record the PS2 games, so all of the Everything Wrong With videos thus far use footage from other TH-camrs. Check the description for the credits. But despite that, yeah, having to watch so many videos and pay attention to every minute detail, then record myself and edit it all together does take some time.

    Man. There's a LOT of sins I didn't see in Zero. Regardless, I firmly believe that Zero is tied with Ace Combat 5 for best game in the series. Such a shame that it didn't get the recognition it and the series as a whole deserves.
    But then again, that's what's nice about niche games. Enough people know about them and are big enough fans that the devs know what makes their games great. AAA games all suck now. Give me Ace Combat any day!
    Anyway, great job as always Sly. I love your work and these videos.

    This game's story revolves around a militaristic country trying to rule [part of] the world; one of the main characters is voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch; and another one of the main characters is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal. And this game came out in 2006.

    5:40 Its big, round, and flat
    8:20 That actually happens in reality. Paratroopers are specifically trained to brace their hands on the outside of the plane right before they jump so that if they lock up, the jumpmaster can push/kick them in the butt and out of the plane.

    You should have knocked off a sin for the location of the Stage of Apocalypse mission with the nukes. When you first start the mission, if you fly low enough you will see the castle from Ace Combat 5 that the Osean President was imprisoned in. I liked how they included it in the game because in Ace Combat 5, your teammates talked about how gruesome the location was adding more to the emotion of this mission in Ace Combat 0.

    Quite a few interesting details I never noticed here. More than just the Ls and Rs, it seems quite a bit was lost in translation, and even the base game seems to have more erroneous minutia than 04 and 5. Of course that might be just selective memory and Zero having less major flaws that force us to delve into the details to find them, but I suspect it's a reflection of the time and manpower constraints in place during development - working on AC6 and supervising X at the same time, and presumably trying to launch before the PS3. Good work.
    PS. A piece of advice - I'm not sure if that's the case, but if you're using Sony Vegas, it looks like you left Smart Resampling on, at least for my clips, resulting in heavy ghosting. It's an terrible feature that's harmful 99% of the time, and extremely annoying as Vegas defaults to it and AFAIK there's no way around it other than manually changing it for *every single clip* (right click, switches, disable resample). But I do find it necessary as the distortion's terrible. And that's why I try to edit as few of my caps as I can...

    • @SlyAceZeta
      @SlyAceZeta  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I mean, it's still all nitpicking, that's all these videos are :P Translation quirks will always be present.
      Yeah I'm using Vegas, I had no idea it was the resampling causing the ghosting. Thank you! Now that I've upgraded to Vegas Pro 14 (thank you Humble Bundle!) I'm hoping to make all of my videos in 2018 and beyond with much better editing (which is partially why I published this video on Dec 31 2017). If you have any more suggestions, please let me know!

    As to sin 15, I'm not sure but I've kind of gotten the impression from playing AC 4, 5, and 0 multiple times that freedom of information policies are less of a thing in Strangereal. Everything surrounding military campaigns is more secretive as far as the public is concerned. It would explain some things like how the protagonists can just fade into history as a legend instead of a well-documented public figure. Maybe in Strangereal fighter pilots are treated like deep cover operatives and names are released on a strict need-to-know basis. Just a theory.

      It _would_ make sense to try to keep secret the identities of pilots so incredibly skilled they're capable of singlehandedly turning the tide of a war. I'm sure any nation who faced one of the Aces would have a keen interest in neutralizing them by any means possible, like taking their family hostage or something for example.

    • @MrAllofyourbase
      @MrAllofyourbase 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We got our answer by implication in the cutscenes for AC7 SP03. Analyst North is specifically making the case that Trigger is a fundamentally good man who shouldn't just get bumped off or forcibly disappeared as a threat to world peace merely for being a "singularity." Captain Torres is cited as an example of the kind of person Trigger is not, and by implication somebody whose death would have made the world a better place.
      It seems that military figures like Torres and Trigger and potentially many others are routinely *forced* to "retire" and enter isolation, or else they die of suicide by three gunshots to the back of the head, to head off any possibility of one going rogue or defecting to a hostile nation and causing massive problems and potential mass death.
      Which explains how Mobius 1 keeps getting recalled to active duty (AC5 Arcade and AC7 VR missions say hello). The Osean military is keeping a close eye on him and drafts him back into service whenever something needs unfucking until he gets too old to fly.
      @SlyCooperFan1 , thoughts?

    1. I never really payed much attention to the callsign names while playing Ace Combat Zero in the past until now. Once I saw that, I couldn't help but bust out laughing. As you said, we're they even trying? No. I don't think so.
    2. In relation to 1, the name "Macarena" reminds me of that mock name that Tidus from Final Fantasy X used for Macalania Temple. He called it the same name as Marcella's call sign.
    3. The whole "Macarena" subject sometimes makes me crave Mac & Cheese for some odd reason. I don't know why.

    I'm still a little tilted at the whole laser beam killing PJ thing, as it doesn't seem to make sense.
    If it was aimed at PJ, then either A) PJ should be fine as he broke away. It's a laser beam. It goes in straight lines. Any movement at all would've moved him out of the way. Or B) That was a terrible shot by Pixy as it looked like PJ broke INTO the incoming beam, meaning the beam wasn't going to hit him at all, and he just screwed himself.
    If it was going for Cipher, then either A) That was an awful shot, as the beam passed by his plane. Or B) Both Cipher and PJ should be toast. It's a laser, not a bullet. Jumping in front of it doesn't make it stop.

    According to the official book Aces of War and to the good ol' ac0 guide, the war was because of the economic crisis Belka had after creating Excalibur, the XB-0, the Morgan and the V2 during the cold war. Also, Osea suggested Belka to spend lots of money in an enterprise whose purpose was to extract the resources of the Five Great Lakes region. However, there weren't any resources there, so the enterprise went bankrupt and the economic crisis got worse. So, if it wasn't for Osea, the Belkan War might not have taken place.

    The Su-37 was the first Flanker to be fitted with thrust-vectoring nozzles. Its test program pioneered the "somersault" post-stall maneuver featured in Ace Combat 7. That may be what's happening here, and the game is simply too low-res for us to see it happen.
