Kai zen.
The encore segment is truly amazing, there's no band, jazz or otherwise, that's making music like that...they're in class by themselves. There will never be another Wayne Shorter!
All I know is that when I hear this group play, I am glad to be alive. I feel emboldened, uplifted, yet daunted and opposed: it's rife with strife and struggle. But it embraces the headlong wind and tacks into it with great beauty. Perhaps Wayne is the only musician whose contemporary work makes me feel grateful.
sorry to be off topic but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost my password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Rogelio Beau thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
That is not just a concert - it is an experience!! This is a group playing as a group, individually brilliant musicians but collectively - something else! Great writing and ideas which have been executed faultlessly- I wish I had been there!.
I am guessing Brian Blade on drums, John Patitucci on bass and Danillo Perez on piano and the inimitable Wayne Shorter on Sax. At 80 Shorter still has a treasure store of music spinning in is head . Amazing....
So the intensity and the detail progressive and delicate sound of Mr wayne one of the most influence for the most powerful music writher of modern jazz
Tracklist: 1.Zero Gravity 2.Lotus 3.Myrrh 4.I Got My Way By Myself 5.Joe Rider 6.Adventures Aboard The Golden Mean Wayne Shorter - tenor & soprano sax Danilo Perez - piano John Patitucci - bass Brian Blade - drums
I may be exaggerating but I think this quartet is as legendary as the Charlie Parker classic quintet, the Miles quintet (both of them) and the John Coltrane quartet. Despite of the differences of course but Danilo, Patitucci and Brian Blade are among the best "jazz" musicians of our times, and Wayne is a legend.
Shorter studied a lot of Miles Davis of course 'Trane and quite obvious in Zero Gravity especially. Those notes that seem not too 'fit' changing the color of the arrangement completely. Every young sax player needs to know well who Wayne Shorter is. As a Latin jazz fan I love Danilo Perez whose piano work does not omit the percussion roots of the piano, a seldom omission in any Latin jazz Perez is not a Latin Jazz pianist, but bangs away when called for, as any great classical pianist would. Blades is sympatico with every note in melody and improvisation of the best of old school Max Roach and Philly Joe Jones with some Haynes mixed in there it is a signature sound for sure. Dave Holland just a master craftsman with an amazing ear never cliche and wonderful taste. Outstanding ensemble would be an understatement.
its not at all about "rock"....Rock is a form just as Wayne's music or as his drummers may form their style-their music! Do ya' feel me? Power and form/style/feel is to be held without any limitation or classification...Its not about a "last one is the rotten egg" race but rather the expression of how one interacted musically with Wayne in this piece. Any great drummer is held in the same-but different-regard.
Listened to 25 mins and enough for me . Call me old fashioned if you like , but I was weened up on Be Bop and post 50's Modern jazz. I am not knocking Shorter as I have his albums when he was a Jazz musician . Ellington summed up Jazz very succinctly " It dont mean a thing if it aint got that swing " This doesn't in any way suggest I have closed ears to progression , Eric Dolphy's " Out to Lunch " is a master piece . But that contained a lot what is missing here originality and interest.
i just commented seconds ago that this music does NOT swing which a prime element of jazz. As great as the musicians are at their instrument, it appears that they play for each other and not the audience. And I fully understand that a musician has to change and grow as well, so perhaps I am not appreciative of this cosmic phase of Shorter's.

I love your rich, aptly metaphorical style of description .. matching the style and atmosphere of the music which stimulates such description!

I may be exaggerating but I think this quartet is as legendary as the Charlie Parker classic quintet, the Miles quintet (both of them) and the John Coltrane quartet. Does anybody know that name of the song that's being played after the 2nd encore?? At the 39:37 mark
Never mind I found out... It's called Joy Rider.
is that a "new classic" kit Brian is playing?
Which is the name of the tune that starts at 39:35?
Joy Rider

Beh forse
Ciò, invece, è qualcosa del tipo:
a) ogni elemento fa ritmi aritmici che ce ne ha voglia , free;
Distinti saluti
