This is exactly what I try to teach people, no matter the instrument, it’s all about these intervals, and the magic of dissonance. Thanks for this!

Noticed the Ry Cooder t-shirt! Remember how He kept throwing away His Cry Baby Wah pedals, eventually found that the 9 volts were dying? Haha. Cool interview decades back. This video though, is really awesome, specific.

Thank you for this demonstration. I knew nothing about this instrument except that it can sound really cool, Now you've given me ideas for technique, tuning, pedal set up and more. Great video! Really appreciate you!

Troy reminds me of David Gilmore in this video... DG is the master of ethereal Lap steel.

Funny you mentioned the synthesizer… I play electric guitar and synth as a studio musician, and started switching much of my synth playing to lap steel around 2 years ago, just because I wanted a fresh sound added to what I was doing. So this is actually the primary way I use a lap steel, and I could get lost in it for hours.
Good stuff! Your videos are always great.

This is the style of playing that really got me into Lap Steel. I play predominantly worship music and I’m no stranger to using volume swells. A lot of worship guitar players use a slide when they are playing more ambient passages, and that works great. The fluidity of pitches moving with a slide/bar sounds amazing with the style of playing. You can definitely do more with a lap style instrument though. Slants, chords/intervals with the bar. With a slide guitar you really just get 1 note or maybe a couple notes straight across. Great video man!

This is great ... Thank you. I have been working with my 1939 Vega Lap Steel for many years trying to create ambient soundscapes. Now, working with digital DAW's I highly recommend the free app Valhalla Super Massive. The kind of sounds it can create with either an electric guitar, or midi keyboard are really amazing.

Thanks for another great video, TB.
I like it but I like it better without the fade in, just using more connecting notes and a bit of echo.
Guess it's just my taste and simple tuning allows for this to be done very simply and easily.
Followed this one all the way through. That was fun 💕🙂

Tryin something like this I'm finding my Ernie Ball volume pedal ramping up real fast, so the foot movement has to be very delicate. Is this something you have to live with or can you actually make the pedal swell less steep somehow?
