I was talking with someone who identified as a hoarder about what worked in their treatment. It struck me that their healing was in directing their attention and will to the *one* specific spot they were clearing and doing that in stages vs undertaking one big cleaning crusade. The hoard had emotional resonance and needed to be respected and understood before it could be cleared. That gave me a new perspective on things and energy. I think the desire to go on huge decluttering life makeover is based in disconnection, just getting rid of pain and discomfort rather than engaging with it.
Likely true. I went on a decluttering crusade of removing piles of college papers and homeworks after she shock of breaking up with an ex. All that stuff taking up space was entirely disconnected from immediate experiences.
My friend is a hoarder and it is the same, almost like she has grown energetically into the web of it all, but is also in shame of it. Like someone who lives in a lot of drama, but they're also saying "it's my drama" some part of it serves them though they know they're responsible for dismantling it
Benebell this was perfect. As a creative software developer my inner child needs feeding and stimulating. To that end my workspace is a complex structure (untidy) while other rooms are minimal to allow a release of focus and relaxation. Much love 💗
Old libraries, maybe 30+ yrs, have always made me dizzy. Similar to going through an antiques store that's packed full. When I'd mention it as a child my mom told me that was claustrophobia. So it took many years for me to connect it to the energy connected to the objects. Usually it's a pleasant sensation in libraries but the junk shops can make me nauseous.
This was great. I learned a lot. Looking around my house... I now have new understanding of why I love my home office to be wall to wall bookshelves (philosophy, political theory, and history) with "currently using" books out on the desk, like most other rooms to be pretty streamlined, and even why I don't like too much on my altar or reading table -- clearing the space + clearing my mind with only what I want to focus on present.
Me to anyone telling me I can’t have lots of books: “Get out!” 👉 😂 In all seriousness though, this explains why I (a writer) have always looooved the energy and atmosphere in bookshops and libraries. 📚🥰📚
I come from a chaotic household and neighborhood when I was younger and I used to hide away in book stores for hours drinking coffee and reading and I always felt at home and safe there along with libraries. ... 😊 it was like a safe place where I could run off and live in a fairytale land while the world burned around me lol
Most things in the esoteric or occult or magickal don’t seem so complicated to me that I couldn’t learn it in time and be engaged and have fun the whole time, so long as I was interested in the first place. But feng shui is the exception so far. I’m interested. I want to learn some sort of house related magick and I like systems but I think I’m intimidated because it’s....aesthetics...? And I don’t understand aesthetics. I randomly tried making a display at work once to see if I could and my boss was like “....that’s nice....maybe let’s let K handle it though” and I was just like “that’s wise.” Even just putting flowers in vases. Rage. Neon eye hurting clashing colors and patterns make sense to me though. So soothing. It’s like it’s organizing itself for my brain. Loudly. I don’t have to think about whether rainbow blocks go with neapolitan ice cream pastel stripes. They don’t. ✨ I suppose if I’m distractable and naturally generating ..creative.. chaos (reverse sponge?) a clear organized space would be my goal. Part of my brain was like YEEAAH CREATIVE CHAOS WOO 🚀🔥🌈⚡️🎨 but the other quieter part of my brain was like ........clean your desk. 👓 This is cool, I didn’t know you could approach feng shui in relation to your goals or preferences. I think I thought it was mainly objective in relation to astrology or the physical building or something.
Totally agree, I'm a guy with books, books, books.....and some more books! For the most part my space is pretty spotless, then when it's time to get crafty, I pull out the Journal, get, "The Tao of Craft" out, bust out my Book of Maps, grab my Metaphysicians day Planner, grab "Kabalistic Tarot", pull out My SKT deck and stand the hell back!!! Creative clutter chaos engaged!Love that painting on the wall though 😺!!! Nice.
Ok without even knowing it was “bad” feng shui with my bookshelf and the clutter, I had cleaned and stored the books I’ve finished reading or no longer want. Definitely something to it and the energy in my room is so much better. For me I can’t be around clutter, dirt.. it drives me nuts.
I like reframing the clutter on my desk as creative chaos from which to draw inspiration. My mind tends to make interesting connections between things/ideas when I take a bunch of different things/ideas and group them together... oftentimes not intentionally, like on my desk. I start to see the common denominator between them, which both consciously and unconsciously gets funneled into my creative endeavors.
Benebell, I'm new to your channel, but have just recently purchased your Tao of Craft book. I am learning a lot from your channel too. I am wondering, can you speak more on Spirit Keeping? Perhaps share your Gargoyle story! Love how he's guarding your Grimoire.
There’s this new book on Chinese talismans that was released just last September! It’s called Forms of Chinese Talismans and Related Taoist Rituals by Ricardo Choo, Id love to hear your two cents on it!
We emotionally imprint on objects, too. Consider the time, context, emotional state in which you read a book. Maybe we won't actively look at a book which we read as part of college course which was torture and absolutely hated the instructor, but when human gestalt feature kicks in what does the brain see ? That bit of negativity we associated with the object still there. Even without seeing, subconscious knows it's there
Great video. So many good points. I like you have subtitles. I have that too in some of my videos. I am a Tarot reader. Hope you want to see a video. I will follow you. Thank you for making this.
I have so many questions about the occultic aspect of Taoism, but can you talk about the 8 immortals in a video? If you haven’t already I’m still a little new here
While listening to this video cleaning dead flies out of my room 😶. For books, we have consolidated our books many times, we have them all in our living room which also has the tv, we want to have that room as the homeschooling room, but it's energy is the opposite of teaching. Whereas the kitchen clean organized but lots of plants has a very energetic creative spirit. I'll have to do your course on it and get the energy sorted. I notice your house does not have a lot of plants, I decided last year my energy needed it, when I had only a few they were not healthy but I've revitalized all those plants when I exploded them and accepted plant clippings from everyone I knew. Though now I'm talking this out my living room which has the least appeal to me has the least amount of plants. I'll have to get to work on it.
One reason we don't have a lot of plants inside the house is because all of our plants are either planted and growing outdoors or we have a couple in the solariums. 😊
@@BenebellWen I grow a lot out side too, cold frames, summer beds raspberry patch, I run a community garden too full of young trees flowers, herbs and vegetables. I have a romantic memory of my great aunts house from childhood (my mentor and most beloved family member) she had a room completely stuffed full of trees and vines and lush life and it was the most magical place, added that to my home has added so much more to my sense of belonging and inspiration at home. My daughters room being the most lush with life and my creative projects, as they inspire my venus in cancer the most.
@@BenebellWen just have to say my husband and I are gushing over having a conversation thread with you, your videos are definitely a theme of conversation in our house, and now your book. ❤
Just out of curiosity for some clarity I have a skull collection it brings me joy however you could argue at least symbolically it represents rot and I keep two collection in my room how did that work for French way would it be positive or negative again out of pure curiosity
When I was producing with Michael Jackson (whom him and I shared blood ; Dixie cup and a shot glass two of mine to one of his .) Michael Jackson had the skin disorder and said, "I would be dead if had not met me in 1979". While I keep a very tidy home I love huge used book stores and junk shops, but I also always loved undoing huge amounts of knotted string and yarn.

Your outlook on things makes me pause and think deep. Some of the concepts you speak are so yogic in essence!
Glimpses of the blue owl gave me joy
I like how your explanation lines with Terry Pratchett's premise of L-space, just without the warp-stress.
a prophetic message from pre-quarantine
I loved this. Last night, I went to bed listening to this. Then, I woke up inspired to start an organization business. Thank You, Benebell.

A simpler way to express the main message of this video is to say, do whatever works for you as long as it makes you feel productive.
Thank you so much! This appeared just as I needed it.

Holy wow!! ...you are speaking to me!
The sigil analogy makes perfect sense to me. Animism is very much a psycho-spiritual concept within my view of the world.
