  • How to tighten GM tilt steering column so that it’s not sloppy. The removal process is slightly different for 73-78 square body trucks. This is a 1978 K5 blazer.
    If you’re just removing the ignition cylinder: • Video
    Back story:
    When I bought this car it had a steering wheel wobble and the steering wheel felt like it was coming off - I think some people call this a “death rattle.” After some reading, I realized it just needed some adjusting, which meant that I had to remove the steering column (or a good chunk of the steering assembly in the cab at least) and tighten down four bolts.
    Some say you can do this without any special tools, but I’d recommend a steering wheel removal kit and a pivot pin remover. Both are pretty cheap to buy (under $50 for the set) and sometimes free to borrow from most part stores.

    Usually I don’t like videos that have excessive talking. everything you were noting was not only the proper way, but also good tips including obstacles you overcame. I appreciate you trying to save the next man who runs into this problem. 10/10 Bro

      Glad it helped. I based it off the notes I took when I first did mine and I tried to focus on the parts I thought were tricky.

    Super helpful video, thank you so much for posting this. My truck is a 1984. Would you happen to know what “differences“ I would need to look for when performing this on my steering column while using your video as a guide?

    I'm currently having the loose steering column issue with my 1990 squarebody Suburban. This seems like a great reference but I was wondering if you happen to know of any differences

    • @Kyle-ry5kg
      @Kyle-ry5kg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Should be largely similar. Only slight differences in the screws used throughout. I don’t remember where exactly, but I referenced a few manuals on late squarebody’s before doing this job.

      You probably shouldn't be doing any of this then if you don't know how to use tools.

    How did you get the pivot pins to come out so easy? My anchoring bolt busted the head off on one side and it never budged the pin. Gonna let then soak overnight with p-oil.

      You use a pivot pin remover? I hit them with some kroil and let them soak for about 5 minutes. They came out fine.
