It really is 😅 i usually play Isengard and a friend of mine runs the dead LL. it's so hard to kill their soldiers while Aragorn tears apart your lines and calls Heroic combacts each turn, Terror is a problem too
I’d say the opposite! Army of the Dead hates F4/S4 troops, and C3 is an important break point as well. Berserkers are incredible, crossbows are incredible, ballistas/bombs are incredible, and Aragorn is the best possible target for Saruman or Grima if they're around. The particular lists here may not quite have that dynamic, but in general Isengard is one of the best possible armies into Dunharrow
Amazing paint jobs on the armies. Really like the Fountain Guard too. And man that Aragorn is a beast as long as he doesn't fluff his rolls. Can't wait for the Gil-Galad and Ellendil combination. They will hit really hard.
Been really looking forward to this game and it did not disappoint!! Well done to both players and what fantastic looking armies to have clash! A real joy to watch. :)
Absolutely fantastic! I am loving this tournament so far and I cannot wait to see the finale. Thanks for your amazing, beautiful, dedicated videos. Also, the paint jobs are exceptionally well done.
Good stuff! Just as a heads up- I think you forgot the link to your kickstarter in the video discription? I wanted to check it out but couldnt find it.
Its unfortunate that Isengard had its worst matchup right from the start, they were some beautiful painted models and I would have loved to see more of them. Will be interesting for round 2 if the Harad list can do better since its used to being hit on 4s and is already expecting to work around that.
The next game with be very interesting, D8 is great against shooting but a horde of fight 4 going up against a small fight 3 army could be tough. We haven't filmed it yet but I am keen
This was the matchup I had the most anticipation for seeing as I play Isengard as my main evil force and Dead/Tirith as my main good force. It did not disappoint! Question for PJ, what are your thoughts on replacing the Herald with Hurin on horse for his synergies with Aragorn? I have used them together with the dead to decent success.
Great Round. i have fought Army of the dead before with Isengard, its tough. have to really go with 9 or so crossbows with Vrashku to be effective. i love using Heroic Accuracy, i think its under utilised
2 beautifully painted armies but Aragorn and army of the dead...the most effective and easypilot almost "stupidproof" army. Mainly against all evil armies. A very irritating army to play against
The Return of the King legion hasn't changed so its just as viable as it has always been. It's tough to get right with it and has a relatively low win rate with only 40% wins out of 381 games. I reckon that is heavily influenced by it being popular with new players so I think its quite a lot better than that.
This battle continues to confirms my opinion, I dont get what people froth over Isengard Crossbows, everygame ive used them theyve been pretty useless... But from shooting missing and means the that model didnt move. Far better to bring some S3 uruk scouts, atleast then they can move and shoot if needed.
This was not the Legendary Legion. It is a green ally between the Dead of Dunharrow and Minas Tirith. That is why it was Aragorn, King Ellessar, rather than Strider and he was able to lead some fountain court guard
Those F5 heroes would have needed to go in from round 1 supported with 2 pikes and Banner to just avoid the ghosts winning many fights at all and kill a few here and there. Also, having 2/3 of your army die fighting, while 1/3 of it just tries to shoot normally ain't working out well since you'r just giving up to many dice for combat. Anyways - really well painted models, absolutely gorgerous.
@@joshcable2240 Not avoiding themself, but avoiding them winning fights, since F5 heroes with 2 attacks, 2 pikes and a banner would win nearly every fight against 2 ghosts, so they don't kill your Uruk-Hai as fast.
Man the army of dead just seems broken and not fun to play against. Having low fight is their main draw back but striking againt courage, causing terror, and being d8 is ridiculous. I never enjoy playing against them
@@ConquestCreations 🤣 no you're not getting off that easy back to the content creation mine for you. We need more premium MESBG videos not less! *cracks whip*
Why isn’t this video listed on your channel? I could only find it within the champions league playlist and didn’t get a notification for it being posted
@@ConquestCreations Haha ok, thank you. You did a fantastic job with this one! The editing is really fantastic here, you make it very easy to keep track of what is happening in the game with the overlays.
Man do I love watching your games. I have a ton of time at work recently and it makes it less boring. Altough a small bit of criticism. You guys keep refering to the players names instead of their faction. This would be perfectly fine and im all for getting then known, but it makes the commentary hard to follow as im a visual learner and keep forgetting who is playing what. I know it is mentionned at the start, but 15-20min in i start to get confused every time. Maybe having a visual reminder somewhere would be great, maybe along with the turn counter animation or somewhere at the bottom of the video along with a models until broken tally?
Thanks for the comment. The big weakness of the army of the dead is their low fight value so despite them easily wounding their opponents if they don't win the fights they will never strike blows. They are also very low model count meaning that if enemy armies play it correctly they should be able to surround and trap the army of the dead
Yup, Nathan should aim to surround AoD with his numbers and instead of pushing into fight focus on claiming all possible objective as main goal. So taking courage checks to charge is less important in this scenario than getting and claiming objectives..
How you beat them really depends on what you're using and the scenario. In Nathan's place, I woulda deployed further back to give myself a turn or two of proper shooting while trying to pull the enemy army away from the choke point. D7/8 is hard to crack, but if you throw enough dice, eventually you get wounds
Is it just me, or are these boards just made for elite armies? How is that Urukhai horde supposed to beat that army with a giant fence piece sitting in the middle of the table, a building covering the right flank, and a building covering the left? Looked like Arragon just ploughs straight through the middle with a Defence 7 terror wall flanked with 2 buildings and a fence in the middle to save them from being outnumbered substantially ever? Then again, maybe it's a list issue, perhaps a shaman or more berzerkers to get around the terror and some more bows to get more shots at demounting Arragon and actually using Lurtz; maybe it's just poor piloting from the evil side. I don't play Isengard I wouldn't know but seemed like a very one-sided game.
Thanks for the comment, if you think that these boards are made for elite armies it is very likely that you aren't using enough terrain in your games. In the rulebook's 'Matched Play' section it suggests 33% - 50% of the board is covered with terrain. In this game we were on the lower end of that at about 33%. I would definitely recomend playing with a bit more! I find it to be a lot more interesting
@@ConquestCreations@ConquestCreations That doesn't really convince me, TBH. Two buildings covering each flank of the front-to-back flank is definitely an advantage for the elite army. I don't see that in the rule book-basically forcing people to use cav with a march to wrap to get around the building? Obviously, the board does need terrain, but it still seems like a massive advantage to have two impassable pieces on either side of a front-to-back flank where the tokens are. The result somewhat supports this as well (do have to consider there were some horrific roles as well, and the heroes didn't do much for evil), does it not? Either way, the whole point is to show off the terrain pieces. Well, it definitely did that they look amazing while blocking a wrap haha.
On second watch: some thoughts this was a bad match up for isengard. the list lacks high damage, and courage, and numbers, the list needed 5-7 dunlending with 2h axes they are cheaper and backed by pikes cause the warriors of the dead trade more in your favor. also increases numbers neede to face more elite armies. no counters for aragorn exist in isengard sadly. this channel has anti dunlending bias ... Im sending a complaint to Thrydain himself about this.
Both absolutely beautiful armies. Seems like a rough matchup for Isengard

That army of the dead list with Aragorn is busted, endless free might
It's a strong list but has low fight value and low numbers. Aragorn is great but he can only be in one place at a time!
Is running the Return of the King LL still a competitive option? Love me some Dunharrow.

Is that a denethor model made up as an army of the dead troop?
Very good eye! That model was used in a gimmic tournament in Victoria where everyone had to use a version of Denethor. That was PJ’s.
I cant remember the last time I watched so many ads

Is it the legendary legion the good player is using ?not sure if Aragon can take a horse ?
It's just a regular army list alliance between Gondor and Army of the Dead
It's a Minas Tirith/AoTD green alliance
Can you explain how Aragon was allowed to be mounted? I'm building AOTD at the moment and keep being told he cannot be mounted in the legendary legion
I guess now watching it more its not a LL, its just a ally?

I am not sure why the Isengard forces has -1 to courage. The harbinger of evil feat comes from the legendary legion which is not in play 🤔
Harbinger is the army bonus for Dead of Dunharrow so it is in fact still applicable due to the Historical allied in Minas Tirith
