I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment hope you sub as well !! I thought ODB used a Stevie Wonder piano sample on Shimmy Ya? This is the first time i've heard this about the Dr Synth??
@@keyboardkingpin the simple 2-note melody is DS-330. From an old RZA interview: "My first BOSS product was called Dr. Synth [DS-330], which was used on the song “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” by ODB. That part [vocalizes: da dada-da dada-da dada-da da”] was Dr. Synth, which only cost me about 200 bucks. It was my first synth ever. You can also hear it on “Hippa to Da Hoppa” by ODB. Really, on that whole first ODB album, most of the bass and keyboards came from that BOSS sound module."
Lol glade u got my humor 🤣 and I'm honored you left a comment and watched much respect! I'm trying to grow the channel join for more great content. And thanks again!!
Nice video! Also Roland R-70 was also produced almost at that time. It was basically the same drum machine as 660 but with extended options. But it was more expensive as well, so everybody just bought DR660. But anyway R-70 became a classic for Chicago juke/footwork scene. It was the drum machine RP Boo used in 90s
For real I agree I own the R-70 and it has nice 808 kits but ya Iwas just focusing on boss drum machines with 808 kits in them becuase of how affordable they where to the masses. IT's crazy even the most expensive Dr. Rhythm Is under around $300 at most. The Roland Tr series it's hard to find any machines besides the 505 and 626 for under $300! Anyways sorry for the novel, and thanks for watching my video. I have more coming soon!!
@@keyboardkingpin somehow there is literally zero good R-70 content on youtube. You should make a video about it! Anyway thank you, i like your channel and will wait for more!
@foolycooly6738 I forgot to say I actually made a beat with the R-70 in 2020 when wildfires were heading towards a majority of the cities in Oregon. Maybe I'll do a brief intro with some machine history and then drop the beat...we will see... I have so many ideas, so little time! Thanks again for subbing dude!!!
@hardwaresecuritymodule hey! You see my visions! Lol I got some fire videos cooking up right now. More rare ass gear with little internet records anywhere .. stay tuned in video coming soon:) o and the Rolanda 2.0 video as well coming soon:)
@@keyboardkingpin I got my real 808 now, through a BX-16 and an SDE-1000 - I gotcha Scottish back if needed! To me, you are the anti-Future Sound of London. Future Sound of ROLAND mofo!
@hardwaresecuritymodule I'm working hard to get a real 808...so far just have the tr-08....damn that's badass you have a real 808 ! Mad props. Haha I'll take that and much love from the USA🇺🇸 !
How you think they sound paired? I couldn't resist considering they have the same exact body's. Half of 660 is 330... I swear they thought they had a hit on their hands with these doctor synths. I think they are great 90s units and still able to get some good sounds in today's day in age. Thanks for the comment and watching. Subscribe for more classic gear content if you can find it in your heart!!:)
i didn't even know a 330 existed. i actually have my 660 sitting next to me, though it's never been integrated into my setup; i sampled the drums, but MIDI/sequencing-wise it seemed like it wouldn't stay in time, so it never got hooked up. I wonder how well it would stay in sync with a 330.
@@i-never-look-at-replies-lol I bought my 330 at Rogue Music in NYC where I live. I needed a sound module badly. I saw that and figured it would get me from point A to point B and it did
@TheHevquip I just use my daw with midi to run both of them so they clock to that with no issues. These 90s roland units I found track pretty well as far as timing. Sometimes, there off a little but nothing I can fix in the daw.
@djflesheata187 hahaha Thanks man!! You gotta use it...probably one of the best drum machines with a boss logo!! Make sure you sub...I'm dropping a new video soon on some unique rare roland gear from the earlier 80s with little to no documentation.

@TheAbyssOfficial I can't remember the exact sound.. but next time I have it out, I'll check and reply again to this. Also, I don't think there is one for the Ds-330, but there's loads of samples and kits modeled after the boss Dr-660 drum machine. It's a shame we need a vst version of the 330!!
